Not why people like it, why people shape their online identity around it. Nobody can make everything about themselves equally apparent to the people around them, but they can choose what things they want others to see most, and what they want others to see is influenced by what they want from the people who see them. This makes me feel really bad for the girl who wrote this. What kind of pricks/assholes has this girl met so she started thinking like that?
