This reminds me of those stories that try to teach sex equality and only show affirmative action and the "offending part" ending up brutally punished for a stupid thing or something s/he didn't even do.
I really hate "morals" like this. They try to teach a lesson but instead come out as something too harsh.
This Christmas neutrality thing seems to be a fairly big deal in the US. Or at least I see the argument popping up frequently during the season. In Germany it's just another phrase and carries about as much religious message as "Oh my god!". In the South people are constantly using [url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grüß_Gott"]"Greet God!"[/url], too and I've never witnessed any sort of argument about the political correctness.
I think it's pretty stupid to get worked up over something when both parties know what they mean. It's a linguistic inaccuracy, sure, but no need to be a dick about it just for the heck of it.
