I'd say Preston is trying to hard.
But that might give him more credit then he deserves.
To be honest, the problem with Preston doing these is that pointing out his flaws himself doesn't instantly make them go away, he needs to improve his work and try to dodge those flaws when they come up so that he can actually get out of their grasp.

I find it odd that everyone praises it for imitating some Animé or Japanese movie.
Pretty much every time the guy does a guest comic he gets most of the praise instead of the original author.
