Posted because it's fucking awesome and creepy at the same time, it's 30 minutes long.
Half way through watching it, It's worrying how much damage was done from one disaster What would happen if another reactor somewhere else was to explode?
Half way through watching it, It's worrying how much damage was done from one disaster What would happen if another reactor somewhere else was to explode?
Security sucked, so it won't happen again. At least not like that. If a reactor was going to melt down, it wouldn't be as bad as that.
What would happen if another reactor somewhere else was to explode?
It's very unlikely that it would happen again, the reactors are very sturdy and stable now
It's great that I can go there anytime I want.
It's great that I can go there anytime I want.
Do it.
Wasn't just the security, someone decided to do experiments with the reactor, and then hurf durf it exploded.
creepy
Would of been nice to see more of Chernobyl NPP but it was still intresting. Thank you for sharing! :v:
Half way through watching it, It's worrying how much damage was done from one disaster What would happen if another reactor somewhere else was to explode?
Most of the blame for the Chernobyl disaster can laid directly at the feet of the shitty Soviet RMBK-1000 reactor design as well as the actions of one inexperienced engineer who KNOWINGLY bypassed the security system (that would otherwise have triggered a SCRAM sequence and averted the disaster altogether). The Chernobyl disaster can't really happen in modern nuclear reactor facilities.
I guess it gets a lot of visitors after seeing all those footprints already there
Wow, that's actually pretty interesting.
get out of here, stalker
Wasn't just the security, someone decided to do experiments with the reactor, and then hurf durf it exploded.
No, they were running a test, which I spoze was the same, but it wasn't like Someone decided to it was all planned, but it failed and too much voltage went in or something along those lines and KABLOOEHH!
No, they were running a test, which I spoze was the same, but it wasn't like Someone decided to it was all planned, but it failed and too much voltage went in or something along those lines and KABLOOEHH!
What they were doing was trying to determine whether the power plant could sustain operation in the event of a total power failure. Basically they wanted to find out if the rotational momentum of the main turbine would be sufficient to sustain the water pumps long enough until the secondary systems (diesel generators) could kick in. For several reasons the experiment went to hell. Steam bubbles building up caused the cooling of the core to become less effective, leading to a greater temperature (which created more steam). The shutdown sequence was initiated manually later but at this point the reactor had already begun to suffer physical damage from overheating (such as fractured fuel rods) and the control rods could not be pushed in fully. The pressure just continued to rise and eventually the whole thing exploded. EDIT: Fuck it, it's all here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_disaster
Yeah, it was a test they had to do, but it got suspended, so when they wanted to do it again, something messed up and they wanted to suspend it yet again, but the leader of the test/project was impatient, so he told the two operators that they were useless, and told them to restart the reactor and run the test, however the emergency shut down had been turned off for the test, and because the reactor had been turned on so quickly, it made a hot spot inside the reactor which started to become warmer and warmer, almost as hot lava. They saw this temperature and decided to drop the fuel rods down into the reactor to stop it immediately, then they heard a loud sound and all of a sudden the facility shaked like an earthquake, the reactor had blown off the big cover on the reactor, and the explosion destroyed the roof. - Insert long ass story I don't have time to write here - Just look it up on Wikipedia, or lend a book in school like I did.
how dangerous is the radiation there?
how dangerous is the radiation there?
A lot more than your normal daily dose, but not enough to bother you in the short term, in most places. Obviously you aren't going to come out so well if you break into the sarcophagus and start licking the radioactive magma formations down there.
how dangerous is the radiation there?
As long as you don't eat the dirt from the ground or lick on exposed stuff you could live there your entire life. Most of the radiation has been cleaned up (mainly by the "liquidators") and the remainder of the radioactive particles exists as contamination in the soil or dust on, for example, vehicles used in the cleanup.
Many places reminded me immediately of Call Of Duty 4. 3:51 anyone? [editline]04:23PM[/editline] 3:51 to 5:28, CoD 4 was modelled after this. Same with the building that looked like a few squares attached.
Many places reminded me immediately of Call Of Duty 4. 3:51 anyone?
Pripyat is the town from Ghilled Up in CoD4.
Farris Wheel. My god its almost like nostalgia. [editline]04:24PM[/editline]
Pripyat is the town from Ghilled Up in CoD4.
Damn, IW did a hell of a good job modelling after it. Like I said, its like a fucking nostalgic feeling. [editline]04:27PM[/editline] Even the bumper cars. I have to visit Pripyat. That is definitely on my bucket list.

man thats scary. that Russian bookmark looked awesome though. Im guessing its like a huge museum of sorts now? cant take anything from it?

Its also a place in the STALKER games but I say the STALKER games make Pripyat more awesome COd4 just made it have dogs and Russians
so basically if i go there i won't get any trouble good
Do avoid moss though, it tends to kind of trap radiation. Oh, and don't fall, break your leg, get tetanus, and then have to wait for who knows how long for help.
posting before someone mentions S.T.A.L.K.E.R Edit:
Its also a place in the STALKER games but I say the STALKER games make Pripyat more awesome COd4 just made it have dogs and Russians
god damnit
Late good sir I mentioned it [editline]03:54PM[/editline]
Its also a place in the STALKER games but I say the STALKER games make Pripyat more awesome COd4 just made it have dogs and Russians
See I did
