You know we're going to need to rebuild the sarcophagus. It's slowly breaking down. If it finally breaks it could spread enough radiation to cover half of europe
what is the sarcophagus? Something to do with the reactor?
It's a concrete construction that was built around the reactor's core (thick concrete is known to block most of ANY kind of radiation) to keep any radiation inside the core from spreading.
If it is to collapse, radioactive dust would be literally shot out of the reactor's core into the atmosphere, potentially increasing the size of the "zone". A lot.

The difference is insignificant. Nowadays the radiation levels aren't anywhere near dangerous to begin with. Remember that thousands of people live and work within the exclusion zone all year around safely.
