• Photography turning into a "fad"?
Mostly girls who want to feel "artistic" or "hip" do it. It's not even photos that are worth putting up for a art show, contest, or magazine. Most of them are pure shit like "Ooooohhh, look how I can focus on this, turn the hue up on that, set the ISO speed on low and make these ridiculous lighting effects." I don't want to see high-res pics of your friends, I wanna see some damn art. [editline]04:30PM[/editline] I seriously wouldn't mind getting into concert photography. Seems like a good field to get into.
I've offered my services doing concert stuff for a few bands, but got overrun by "professional" guys charging heaps more money. I've ranted about this before, but it's always some old, fat, balding guy who shows up with a canon rebel and an 18-55 lens, using the built-in pop-up flash taking crappy washed-out pictures. If you watch them, you'll notice they make sure people can see their camera and give this creepy "Yeah I'm awesome" look to people who notice. One time, When I got that "Damn right I've got a camera" eye contact, I went over and asked about his equipment. "It's a REBEL. They're the best cameras :smug:" me- "what kind of lens is that?" (I knew it was an 18-55) "Wiiide angle. But I can zoom in to see the stage real close. :smug:x2" I sighed and walked off.

There is no way that you can say photography is becoming a "fad". I'm in my teens and the photos I take are nowhere near the stereotypical black and white poorly contrasted "indie" photographs taken by some teenagers. Examples of pictures I have taken with my DSLR: [img_thumb]http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4101/4957724299_98e0462f49.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4075/4957723433_6feaefd06b.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4145/4958316216_deb0a270d0.jpg[/img_thumb]
Oh. My. God. You should have punched him. In the camera.
I came back to that venue when that band was around again, with my camera. I made sure to stand as close as possible to the guy with my camera out, giant flash on top and my 55-200 (with the hood on just to make it look bigger). I got some awesome pictures, albeit they were a little closely framed. /edit/ nothing on my work computer to show off. :frown:
Check out my DSLR, since it's a Rebel the built in flash is better then external flashes.
I hate people like that... Just for the sake of revenge, you should buy some optical slaves and put them on some external flashes. Aim those bad boys at those "professionals" photographers with their built in flash and burn out their pictures. Then again, that may backfire and they'll say it's a new style.
I've always wanted to get into Photography, but, I never really wanted to go out of my way to spend alot for a camera. I do have an old FujiFilm DSLR though. :v: I like taking pictures of animals. Here's a REALLY old picture. :3 [img_thumb]http://filebox.me/files/3u893kw96_Phillipines051.jpg[/img_thumb]
Not great. A lot of people in this thread are posting pictures like your tiger one hoping to get praise, when in actuality, having a hi-res camera really doesn't make you a good photographer.

I took photography this year in high school because I need an art credit and I like taking pictures of the environment (I would love to do urbex if I could find a place), but a lot of other people are taking it to learn how to take better pictures of themselves and edit them better, it kinda disgusts me. So I would say it is a fad right now, at least for high schoolers. EDIT: WHAT THE FLYING FUCK ^^^^ :froggonk:
that is fucking disgusting... can a mod PLEASE remove that post! HOLY SHIT! at least can they snip it?! if not I am not coming back to this thread...
People also need to learn: photoshop filter != skill
report the post so the proper section/super mods can see it and come snip it.
A lot of people are getting these DSLR cameras and even putting water marks on their pictures when they upload it to the mother of all quality killing services, Facebook photos.
My god. You hit it right on the head. EDIT:
a wall of dicks
:frogsiren: wtf man we were talking at photography.
Sucks, I want to get into professional photography and with all these idiots with cameras I'll just be another guy with an expensive camera. [editline]03:19PM[/editline] I'd actually use my camera for good (art)

:geno: What has been seen cannot be unseen... :q: ...
Sucks, I want to get into professional photography and with all these idiots with cameras I'll just be another guy with an expensive camera.
*Dont make size 24 watermakrs *Dont focus on small little leafs and flower pedals. *If you do that, at least make sure there's some cute bug or something we haven't seen before. *Please take pictures of big things, like mountains, buildings, etc. *Focus does what it sounds like; creates focus. Focus on an object you want the audience to see, dont go all happy and make us feel like we have to put on glasses to see the picture clearly. *B&W/Sepia is nice on certain occasions. Like the girls on myspace/facebook illustrate, it does make things look nicer. But in reality, it feels like just another photo filter. *Generally the less photoshop you do, the better. That program can turn a bad picture into a work of art. But wheres the merit? Sorry, I dont know anything about photography, but this is what turns me off the second I see it.
Girls who THINK they can be "artistic" by making a crappy picture black and white and changing the contrast. :downs:
"Lets put it in sepia and add pink hearts"
No, take a selfshot, make it black and white and put a small X over your lips. :downs: Oh and dont forget a pink transparent signature! :downs:
ur all mad because 0f the @rt i make 1ts betiful and ur al haters [editline]08:50PM[/editline] The other day my retarded friend posted some shitty picture she colored in and there was artifacts from JPEG compression all over it, it was fucking terrible. I told her .PNG's are better for those types of pictures, and that JPEGS will fuck up the picture and cause artifacts. She actually replied "lol no jpg doesnt matter it doesnt change the picture silly"

the average photo is some fucking landscape or something stupid like a shoe or a candle. it's kids trying to make themselves look like individuals when they're really just being stupid
accidently read this as "pornography"
accidently read this as "pornography"
We've heard this a million times already and nobody cares.
hi coming from someone who likes to consider herself a photographer i've noticed that a lot of the "photography" that people post on facebook is really just oversaturated shitty self portraits of themselves i mean dont get me wrong, self portraits can still be very artistic but im getting really tired of some dumb cunt wearing disgusting looking makeup, taking the most out-of-focus picture ever and calling it art
I love getting into conversations with people who have cameras. We talk about what we like to shoot. I ask to see their camera and see that they are shooting on auto. They are using a thousand dollar DLSR and not taking advantage of the possibilities. I die a little on the inside with my Canon XSI Rebel in hand. Even more when I joke about trading cameras. Because I feel like I should prove I don't take Facebook pics like some prissy 15 year old girl.

PNG is for images with few colours in them or images you want transparent without compression. Or in those few cases where the image host or site you put the picture on compresses JPEG's no matter what but leaves PNG's as they are. JPEG all the way for photos, much better compression and sizes, just put it at MAX compression and there WON'T actually BE ANY FORM OF VISUAL COMPRESSION in the image AT ALL. The filesize will kick the PNG in the nuts. It's just as retarded to hear people complaining about JPEG and recommending PNG as it is retarded to hear people saying JPEG looks good even when it's clearly compressed. Worst is the guy that saved the compressed JPEG to PNG after someone told him to save it as PNG, and then he said he noticed it looked better.
I hear it mostly from the guys in the MS Paint section, but obviously jpg compression in MS Paint kills puppies
