Hipsters ruin everything, I like taking pictures so I can remember stuff.
I have a terrible memory, I can't remember the past 10 years of my life without pictures. :sigh:
do all the photo pros in this thread have flickr, picasa, some other gallery of their photos?
daijitsu- you there show me your photose
Too bad my cousin broke my camera a few months back, oh well.

When did this fad start? I'm the only kid in my school who has a DSLR. Here's a somewhat-recent shot anyway.

actually I like yours, it isn't a default script font, and most of your stuff really looks good. This photo, however, makes you look like a hipster photogamator.

Hey now, I may use filters, but I use them with a pre-defined aim
Here's an example of a panorama I created while at San Francisco Bay
Original

And then I cropped it and changed the levels to make it look hotter and post-apocalyptic:

well that's with AIM.
if you threw a split tone over every photo ever and called yourself 'artistic' for it I'd have to shoot you :colbert:
The infection has spread to the UK as well, it's a trend over here now. They all think that once they have taken a black & white picture they ARE professional photographers. I did a college media course where I learned about photo development and stuff, and it was cool doing them in the dark rooms. If I asked any of these camera scene kids how to develop a photo in a dark room they would have a panic attack.
I don't mind this being a fad. Photography is fun and the easiest way for me to do any sort of artistic expression.

I understand what you mean, but I don't like that it draws the novelty from the real photographers. Like I play in a band, and now everyone who I hang round with has started a band, so now if I say to someone "Erm, yeah, I'm in a band with a few friends", it's no longer an interesting subject because it's something they get told from everyone, you get what I mean?

I agree. And yeah, it does bother me. Both about the band and photography. But what can you do? Hopefully the hype will lead to a few good or naturally talented photographers to realize their potential. There can never be too many artists in the world.
I misread as Pornography....
Photography? Dude, check out videography. I like both.
One of my facebook friends has all of his photos sepia.
I wouldn't mind if he claimed it makes him looks better, when it makes him look AWFUL.
I personally like to think I'm good with photography, but recently I have been filter raping my pictures with an app on my phone...
But I have a lot of decent pictures taken with my own and my dad's camera... Decent in my opinion, I mean.
Some random pictures I've taken with my father's Nikon D300:
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/DSC_1295.jpg[/img_thumb]
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/GeigerCounter.jpg[/img_thumb] <-- Was more of a "Hey look what I have :downs:" picture but it's still not a bad one..
Aaaaand some taken with my Coolpix S550:
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/DSCN0676.JPG[/img_thumb]
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/DSCN0608.JPG[/img_thumb]
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/DSCN0608_edit.jpg[/img_thumb] <-- Edited version of the last pic. Auto-level'd (fixed the colour) and slightly increased contrast.
I've actually been meaning to A: Get myself a nice DSLR (Nikon D3000 perhaps?) and B: Eventually get an analog camera so I could learn how to develop photos myself.
(I shouldn't be showing off my shitty photos but eh.)
also now I'm her photographer.

Not to be a dick, but that's not a very flattering shot.
You have the lighting technique down, but she looks hotter in her photos than she does in yours.
Are you fucking her?
yeah, me too. i'm irked with people/kids talking and bragging about to much with their dslr but completely ignorant with the rule of thirds. wth.

I actually didn't like that shoot, but thought the smug look would be a good one for that post.
also no, but my girlfriend agrees a 3 way isn't out of the question.
:haw:
here, this one's a bit better.

she was really stiff with her posing during the shoot... I think it was unusually cold in the house.

Rule 1: Learn the rule of thirds
Rule 2: Ignore the rule of thirds
Rule 3: Use your new outlook on composition

You've totally blown out the sky.
What really gets me are the people who use online photo editors.
Also throwing this out there. You don't need a nice camera to be a photographer.
My teacher takes these with his iphone.

Maybe because just being in a band is nothing really special? And just taking photos isn't either.
What matters is how good you are at that.
If you are annoyed by some hipsters for taking novelty from real photographers, obviously you're not good enough.

I read your thread in CC where you posted more of this shoot, and all I can say is, STOP the filter. It makes stuff only worse. These days photography is like movies, overblown effects and no sense. I bet it would look much better if it had natural colors, not some desaturated orange or blue tint.
Honestly you don't have to edit a bland photo that much to make it stand out.

Could you thumb those maybe?
Yeah, then watching people attempt to Photoshop their pictures and they turn out horrible.
Huge ass images, can't see shit.
Ah I remembered what pisses me off the most. People who compress the crap out there photos with .jpg and just destroy them.
