With a tripod no doubt. taking a multi-second exposure from a moving bus would have been a laugh and a half :v:

Sadly, I suspect I'm older than you (If I'm not, I'll be amazed). It was a gift actually. As were the SLR lenses that I was given.
ur a real photographer
Toad those pictures are awesome, I love the colors man

HA! My first set of lightning pictures were taken by laying on the sloped side of a storm cellar with my camera attached to a telescope tripod (which was subpar at best).
But yeah. The bus changes everything.
on the topic of crazy lighting and longer exposures, there's always an interesting new skies, particularly sunsets in my area at least once a week.

Photography is just like music, just ignore it if it doesn't appeal to you.
Those top 3 pictures are just :gizz:
The rest are nice
The second two are "holy balls!"
a few more night shots because I'm bored. No photo editing was done, these are all straight off the camera. (I love lighting techniques and tricks)

(used the car to stabilize, didn't have my freaking tripod)

(seriously, that's how it looked after the shot. Flash'd her so she imprinted hard, then let the light from the DIMLY light clouds seep in over 20 or so seconds)

(was a mistake, didn't mean to set it off so she wasn't prepared and kept moving. Looks creepy though, so I love it)
Top is my favorite of those 3, middle is weird looking, and bottom I dont know about it.
But I love the sky in the top image. All those colors just makes it awesome.
I'd like to get a new camera because the one I have right now eats batteries like a bitch. I also can't get it to take a decent night shot for the life of me. 90% of my photos consist of fish and coral from my tank for various reasons. The day shoots turn out decent, but the night ones, when all the action really happens, turn out like shit.
Yes, if I see another picture of a flower in colour with the rest of the background in black and white, and see them get praised for their 'insane photoshop skills' I'm gonna rage.
May as well post the few more of the "keepers" from my huge mountain of crap while we're on the topic of facepuncher photography.
(daaw)

pretty blurry, but i was in a hurry to take this
i personally love pictures that show artifacts like toads
makes it look special
Another interesting sunset I got a month ago that filled the sky with orange and violet. (not edited)

Terrible photo, but i just wanted to capture it as quick as possible. it went dark 5 mintures later.
Normal facebook comment to a girl wearing black and white socks and colorful shoes :
"Art, this is pure art. <3 bby"
This is why I don't use social sites, they just piss me off, more than 80% of the users being retard teenagers who can't talk properly, and art being considered a jpg image, horribly pixelated, and blurry.

better than being a dick
it contrasts tones so the black and white has more depth, without it a photo tends to turn flat when grayscaled.
(not the best example but it's what I have open right now.

HOWEVER your photoshop-whore would toy with CONTRAST then just desaturate.
Sounds like a gamma incorrect grayscaling algorithm to me. Lrn2linear.
Seriously if you do anything visual at all; learn and recite this every day:
Think linear, live linear, breathe linear.
It seems to me that photography has turned into a fad now. If you go to an American school then I think you know what I mean. A lot of people are getting these DSLR cameras and even putting water marks on their pictures when they upload it to the mother of all quality killing services, Facebook photos.
I was into photography WAY before this fad seemed to come into my social group. I just couldn't be one of the 'starters' of it because I didn't have money for a camera...
Anybody else experience the same? If I am not mistaken it is happening with the UK too seeing as I have a lot of real life friends in England (I am visiting) it seems just as abundant as America, if not worse.
What's the problem with photography?
In terms of artistry, I don't care much for creative framing or setups or lights or effects or whatever.
I think the photographers first and finest duty is to capture reality as it appears exactly at that moment in time. And as tempted as I sometimes am to "polish" my shots, I resist. Art is for painters.
I guess that's why I only ever take shots of particularly pretty sunsets, clouds, skies, lighting situations etc.
when i went to the shanghai expo recently (i'm chinese) you shold have seen it
huge DSLRs everywhere (Canon 5D, 7D, nikon d90s and all that) with gigantic flashes and giant lenses (like this pic except with a telephoto (asians love DSLRs) and all they took were like family photos with the peace signs like normal asian people
there were so many giant DSLRs i felt stupid taking out my point and shoot to take pictures
OP I think you should stay away from facebook and lean over to deviant art for actual artistic photographs.
Facebook is filled with hipsters and scene people, it gets disgusting after a while.
Real men use film anyway. If you want the best quality, there's one way, it's the grainy way.

Man, still wish I had my film camera. Mine used to be my grandmothers actually.
This thread makes me want to get back into photography :saddowns:

deviant art isn't really what I would call the best place for photography. Half of it is "nude art", and 2/3rds of THAT is unattractive women spreading their legs at the camera.
oh god why did I even just say that

Can't argue with that, still better than "OMGIZZLES LUK WAT I DEED WIT MY WEBCAMZ!"
Also yay! I have manipulated daijitsu's keyboard!
Sounds like you need to learn how to ignore dumbfucks who pretend to know shit that they have no idea about.
Every subject area has them and some keep like that forever; carry on and don't take any notice unless you're taking advantage of them.
I *heart* analog SLRs because they're cheap (got mine for €3,- ) and easier to carry arround, does make me look hipster though. :ssh:
