i'm not gonna pm you because i'm not that into arguing with dudes on facepunch so this is my last post here but seriously that stereotype of people that enjoy OF's music is getting pretty silly, those types of fans hardly exist and any of them that are like that get made fun of lol, i just listen to them sometimes and i just happen to have a title and avatar that shows my appreciation, look at my last.fm recents if you really want to see what i'm into
you're right about me not knowing anything about electronic music, because i don't listen to it, i was simply saying that when i've gone to parties etc the DJs don't do anything (they're always some dude from essex with a pair of beats by dre and a macbook)
You my friend need to go to better parties.
I'm pretty amazed that a lot of people still think all djs do nothing but press play.
A lot of them do. Yes. But then there are real djs that don't just press play and stick their hands up in the air.
If you've ever been on stage, djing music to a crowd, you would know first hand that it is a LOT more than just pressing play.
Reading the crowds energy, playing music to match, heighten, lower the energy, creating mashups, you know playing MORE than just one song at a time, using FX, crossfading switching basslines, switching mids, beat slicing, beat matching, tempo fading etc.
My point is there is ALWAYS something you can be doing on the decks to make the music sound better, and if you're not, then you aren't doing your job. And real djs are the ones doing the work.
To say otherwise is completely ignorant.

You live in the drum and bass capitol of the world, a genre that has some of the most talented djs to walk the planet.
It's a bit of a shame to read this.

problem is most of the great nights for drum and bass out are in london which is a ball ache & expensive to get to depending on where you live and if you can drive or not
the labels do tour around the major cities though from time to time
Its like going to concert where someone is pretending to sing. Might be all show but the music can be good.
When I go to a concert I go to see people perform music. If they are just going to pretend I might as well listen to the album at home.

I'm talking about DJ's who play at big music festivals. Club gigs are a bit different.

I went to the DJ set to hear immersion before it was released, was an absolute blast. I could care less if it was just a dude in a fold-out chair who hits play then kicks his feet up, it's about the music and the crowd energy

saw goldie in manchester a few weeks ago, madness
Went to Hospitality a while back, I don't think anyone was under the impression that the artists there were actually doing complex shit. Everyone was just mashed, enjoying the music and the night.
I do wonder about some of the highest paid DJ's though.
I mean, sure, you have to have some talent, but its not really thaaat difficult.
you can hear that she's doing nothing why do you need a top down view to prove this

i live in kent, the garden of england, so i'm not sure about that, plus i'm from new york and i think a lot of electronic music is silly and boring, but that is my opinion and i'm not forcing it on anyone
you go to a concert/club with any dj playing to have a good time. who cares if it's technical work as long as the music's good
Reading the crowds energy,
lol I think most DJs realize that the crowd is going to happily adjust their energy to what you're playing. As long as your playlist isn't just fast song after fast song, it doesn't matter.
"Good DJing" is more about being a showman than anything else.
I just produce music live on all hardware and loopers
more fun that way
I opened this thread just to have a laugh, and everyone's all upset in here. I was expecting it to be like that picture of the dude from Justice tweaking some knobs on a mixing board that's clearly not hooked up to anything.
