I was cheap as fuck and used a brush
At least you didn't use some random stock image.
I don't believe in stock images (for most purposes).
I'm starting to hate my colouring technique because it takes so damn long and I never finish anything anymore :frown:
I can't get used to blocking for some reason either, I just feel like the way I do it makes whatever I'm colouring even uglier and kills my attention for it.

ok you need to leave your comfort zones and try out some new techniques if you think your current one isn't working, maybe look up some tutorials, that has helped me loads of times.
try out several coloring techniques, even though they feel unatural and you're not satisfied, keep going
I do warn you that all of these are paintings that I never got around to finishing.

Can anyone please help me with my painting techniques. I need a lot of advice, I only just started painting some time last year, and I've only done about 6, but for art this year I'd like to do my final piece as a digital artwork so that means I'm going to have to improve a lot by then.
My theme is natural disasters so I'll be painting a lot of buildings, and at the moment I'm terrible at that. They don't have to be super realistic, I'd be happy if they were sketchy but still had a sense of realism to them, and didn't look like a 5 year old painted them.
I'd appreciate any help.
Can anyone help me with this? I'm sure a lot of you have experience with paintings done on a tablet.
Well too paint realistic buildings, the painting isn't necessarily the most important part. You have to know building styles and trends from different eras. Then when you paint the building it will look to make sense.
I'm bored so I'm just messing around with my tablet.

Alright so since my Life drawings thread is pretty much dead, I'll just post this here.
A timelapse of a drawing I did traditionally, only used reference for the room pretty much.

And I think I did a bad job of this lol.
With or without? (Click for twice as big size)

Any suggestions?
Colours kinda becomes too much.

well the illustration below the heart doesn't fit the style, and alone it looks like it's missing something

It is supposed to be a contrast to it.
But I could definitely work on making it sketchy, but still more clean. I'll see if that helps.
I'm glad we agree on the "it needs something more" though.
also if you're gonna use colors I'd suggest not using too vibrant ones

At the size relative to the shirt at which you now have it, I think it would look better centered on the shirt.
I dunno
I really like that first one

First one is the one with the girl, right?
At the size relative to the shirt at which you now have it, I think it would look better centered on the shirt.
I guess, but it kinda removes the point where the heart is placed at the heart. But on the other side everything in the design is split equally on both sides thus it would be more balanced to have it in the middle.
Maybe too balanced. Maybe not.

Shouldn't the end of her left leg be a bit behind the dress/gown she's wearing? (right now it's completely in front of it)
Also, she reminds me a bit of Shel Silverstein's artwork.

Lauren Child
And yes, yes it should.
Just a fun little thing I did cause I was bored.
[i]A soldier on patrol stands quietly in the snow, gazing at the vast city-scape before him. The memory of war has imprinted the streets. A blanket of snow covers the rubble and battlements, and the cold winds sting, even through the men's covering.
He watches his sector diligently, waiting patiently, with a calm, collected mind. He stands as still as the environment before him, and he waits.
Meanwhile, another soldier is readying his rifle for a kill. He places the slender, metallic barrel onto a broken piece of concrete, and looks into his scope. At once he knows his target. He takes a breath, and...

Tried having some progress screenshots.
Tried in general.

Since I know nothing about value, or shading, or any of the fancier bits really i just didn't try it.
I'm going to go re-watch David Fitch a few more times and do more basic cylinder people poses with pencil and paper.
Maybe this as an alternate since i liked the neck
