well in my latest THE THING POSTER, the main graphic dude is cracked and split up
this represents how the alien causes all the main characters to suspect each other, you know how 'it could be any one of us'. this splits up all the characters, shatters their friendship.

We were given a kitchen utensil which we then had to design a package for. I got measuring cups.

Can I ask for video editing advice here (specifically AE) or is there a thread for it?
Can I ask for video editing advice here (specifically AE) or is there a thread for it?
There's no specific thread for it as far as I know so shoot.
I need a good way of presenting pictures in a video, do I have them in 3d space and then the camera flies to each one, do I have them in time with the music (I have no music yet either so if you have a good track that can go with a video about the Duke of Edin bough then gimme) and finally do I have any cc partical world in the background or is that too cheap?
What kind of look are you after, with the Duke of Edinburgh as a subject I'd not make it too fancy.
I did this today in Macromedia Fireworks

well I was thinking of having an extreme theme because we have pictures of us white water rafting and jumping into rivers, so fast paced music and colours. However, I've never worked with pictures in a video before and I want to know what looks best

And that's how you can waste A LOT of time for a picture which is likely to remain unfinished.
You know photoshop can generate empty images like that by taking ~50-100 photos with people standing in different places.

Wow that's really cool!
Does anyone have any tips or tutorials on painting with brushes in Photoshop?
I just want to know about blending, and what settings you use.

Ah yes, that's true. But yeah, should save you a lot of effort in the future.
Sorry, but it really isn't very good in the logo sense. Could be an illustration for a label or something, or a background image, but simplicity is paramount in branding and this is anything but simple. Balance, unity, simplicity, contrast, emphasis: principles of design that you should learn, and learn to love.
The type combination could also use some work. Presumably the subtext within this image is : design. Therefore designer should definitely not be bolder/stronger font than your name. There are exceptions to this, as there always are, but with your image the bold text and its distant separation from your name throw off the balance of the image by putting the emphasis on "design". Another problem is how your logo is largely dealing with circular geometry. However, design is a sharp blockly font. This all draws attention to it.
Whipped this up in some minutes, not great itself, but this is a bit closer to the kind of thing that people use as logos now. Your work is decent, but its a bit more common with what there was in the nineties.
(Didn't use colours or themes you suggest, sorry, just took the compass and went with that.)

Somebody I find very inspiring is David Pache, amazing work in my opinion:

Thanks for the great critique. I'll keep that in mind especially the bit about the design part being less bold than the name. Funny how despite the name being much larger the fact that design is bold makes it seem more important in the hierarchy.
Your mock logos look good, but they don't really speak to who I am and who my "brand" is personally to me (or how I want to show myself). I made my logo with the distinct purpose of not defaulting to a specific minimalist or modernist style, simply because in many situations I frankly do not find any meaning in that style of design. In my eyes, too often designers tend to use them because it's a straightforward way to make something look good. Sometimes it's the best direction to go towards for a specific brand or or feel they want to achieve. But more often than not it's much more common in my eyes for people to default those styles without any real purpose to why, which drains the design of any unique personality or meaning.
I look at the above logos and think that they look good, but do I find any connection, personality or meaning behind them? Personally, I do not. They just don't describe anything accurate about me, and that approach isn't how I like to approach graphic design.
I'm not saying my direction is any better at achieving what I want to achieve though of course, I just 100% know I'm not going to approach my personal brand using a minimalistic or modern style as it definably doesn't speak to who I am as a designer, both from a graphics standpoint and a level/game design one.

The colors should be less bright, like in the original poster. And maybe make the hand a bit more obvious. Overall it's looking real good though.

just take the mode of each pixel of an array of images.
Takes 2 lines of code lol
[editline]12th April 2011[/editline]
Then just fill in undetermined pixels (not enough samples) with in painting algorithm

thats just a bad picture of the original poster, the real things not nearly as washed out
[editline]13th April 2011[/editline]
but i think i probably should make it more washed out it might look nicer

Your welcome, and as for my logo not having any connection or personality, well it makes sense since I know nothing about you :P Either way, its good to have your own ideas, and I respect that because its for your own personal logo, but if you are ever designing for a client (corporate, rather than private) then just know that a logo needs to be simple. (Aside: Simple != minimalist)
For me, implying meaning with simple marks and shapes, is the real challenge of branding or logo design.
Good luck though.
So about that logo redesign.

Advice? I changed the line thickness, but I want some outside opinions.
The actual company logo.
