do many people use mechanical pencils for 'proper' drawing? being a graphicy person it's my pencil of choice but i can't imagine doing a lot of shading with it.
I've been using mechanical pencils lately.
what lead? out of interest. i mostly use 2B but i keep some HB handy for more illustrative sketches.
what lead? out of interest. i mostly use 2B but i keep some HB handy for more illustrative sketches.
I tend to sketch out in a 2H or even 5H but I get pretty much all my shading work done with a trusty 2B (you can tell just by looking at the length of my pencils). Sometimes I briefly switch to a H again for details or to a 6B if I need to do a big dark area or some pitch-black shading.
do many people use mechanical pencils for 'proper' drawing? being a graphicy person it's my pencil of choice but i can't imagine doing a lot of shading with it.
I usually use mechanical pencils and pens I find (usually abandoned by there owners) for most of my drawings. I can't remember the last time I used a set of pencils of various HB levels.
do many people use mechanical pencils for 'proper' drawing? being a graphicy person it's my pencil of choice but i can't imagine doing a lot of shading with it.
In a bunch of drawing books I've read the authors often suggest using mechanical pencils for outlining, fine detailing, and cross hatching. They suggest using .5mm lead for a lot of applications. You should probably get a nice pencil set because you usually use a bunch of different pencils for shading.
what lead? out of interest. i mostly use 2B but i keep some HB handy for more illustrative sketches.
Every drawing I have ever posted in this thread or my sketchbook thread has been done by mechanical pencil.
I spent an hour on this [img_thumb]http://i55.tinypic.com/jg05lj.png[/img_thumb]
why is it all blurry and ugly [editline]16th April 2011[/editline] and so blotchy, drawing straight lines aint that hard
I hand drew it with a mouse :saddowns: [editline]16th April 2011[/editline] At least it looks like a chair
i draw with my mouse all the time, thats no excuse for how jagged and blurry it is.
I hand drew it with a mouse :saddowns: [editline]16th April 2011[/editline] At least it looks like a chair
uh. You want to get better at drawing draw with a pencil. jeez your standars are so low that as long as it looks like a chair you think it's ok?
I spent an hour on this [img_thumb]http://i55.tinypic.com/jg05lj.png[/img_thumb]
Looks like filter rape to me.

Made another portrait attempt. I thought I had the proportions right but as it turns out not at all. Also, the camera flash made the blacks a bit more gray. I'll be happy if the subject is recognizable.
