Is that supposed to be a creature similar to the Greystone/somethinggrey worm from Penumbra?
At first I though it was a rolling ball.

Some generic pistol and my all time favorite hacky thing.

Can anyone help me out? I dunno what the hell I'm doing.
I decided I would try and paint in Photoshop, and I like it, but I just don't really know how to very well. Any advice?
Here's my first attempt :l

It looks good, but you need to finish it by defining the edges a bit more

Continue doing what you do just add more details to it as you go. Also remember that if you aim for realism it's small changes in hue, light (values, (highlights and shadows)) and saturation that makes the difference between grey washed out lifeless drawings and realistic drawings.
Basically do this:

(Since you got transparent lines here and there in your drawing)
It also helps to draw bigger. It allows for more detail and control. Of course it becomes harder getting proportions right and the difference in drawing skills become more apparent as you can't just add a splotch here and there and then it looks good because it's so small and gives the illusion of detail.
