Creative Work That Doesn't Deserve A Thread V6 <3v3ryb0dy Hypocrite Critiques Edition> - General

I'm probably the only one, judging from what everyone seems to post, but I've really been disliking digital paintings lately, they're so stale and boring. I'm not trying to offend anyone here but, I dunno, there's a certain physicality and roughness that's lost when painting is done on the computer. Also I've been practicing brushscript fonts lately, I'll post shit tomorrow.

Finished a sec ago, but still not decided whether it's WIP or finished, but ill go with finished. This was lightning test, i need some SERIOUS critique on the shading and lightning. (If possible from 3v3rybody) And please ignore anatomy, i know it's unbearable to look at his arms, but anatomy wasn't my highest priority. The warrior's left pauldron looks odd, but it could just be the contrast. The lighting on it makes it look like it juts forward more than the breast plate, yet the shading on the right one suggest that it shouldn't.

Lighting and everything could be pardoned if the anatomy was atleast somewhat good. But it isn't. Your brush techniques are still horrible and gives everyhting a murky look and there's no material definiton. Armor seems clay and the clth seems like it's a part of someones cock. He stands straight as an arrow holding his other arm against his body but suddenly a huge sword. The pose suggests obedience or fear, not confidense. Even the downturned horns and the curvature of the helmet's hole thingy suggest submission subconsciously. I know you didn't ask for that, but you shouldn't practice just one thing (shading) and not give a toss about anything else. If you want to do that, do still lifes and other real studies, not imagining your own things without any reference. That's how you learn, not by making stuff up.

It's a opinion. I wouldn't have said it if I knew you would get so offended. And I'm not judging it from this thread, I tried to get into it when I found my old wacom tablet so I looked at a lot of examples while finding resources. I've simply concluded I don't like the look of the medium.

The medium is varied so hugely though. You see? you see those? That is what you can accomplish with digital painting, but just forget that about yourself ever climbing to that level if you are just gonna give up after a few tries on your tablet. And the you just don't like the look on the medium, Digital paint can adapt any look you want, don't be so narrow minded.

Okay, okay. I take it back. I guess it's not so much that I dislike the look of it, as you displayed it can be as varied as you want. I think what's pushing me away is that I don't like doing it, it feels weird to me and I don't think I'll ever enjoy it as much as holding a pen or pencil and getting some paper and drawing. That said, I still don't like digital paintings where you can see the brushstrokes.

You don't like it because you can't handle it. People aren't born good with digipaint they work hard. And you should too if you want to advance. If not just ignore what I'm saying.

I'd prefer to work with pen and paper, I don't have much, or any, desire to work with digital mediums of any kind.
