I'm going to start the actual 'Art School Thread' at the end of next week. So if people are not liking harsh, angry but lovable criticism of this thread and are too cool for conceptart.com you will be able to post work there for some hopefully top class criticism. Also please keep messaging me any useful links to resources and tutorials that you think should be included. People are still welcome to write their own.

I really wish I could bring home my AP work.. Seems like forever since I drew something in my free time
so for a project last year we were to come up with a set of visually consistent images, and i came up with these animals. my tutor really likes them and thinks i should put them into my portfolio for going out on placement, but they need to be "taken further". he suggested maybe modifying them slightly and making some child maze book or something, but i don't know. any suggestions? [editline]15th March 2011[/editline] and i know the goose and elephant aren't quite right, i'll probably leave them out
and i know the goose and elephant aren't quite right, i'll probably leave them out
I don't see anything wrong with them.
the elephants lines are too thick and the goose is too thin
and i know the goose and elephant aren't quite right, i'll probably leave them out
I really think the goose looks as good as the rest of them, and then elephant is a teensy bit off but honestly this is basically professional stuff. The way you work the curves into the shapes (eg on the goose where the section of shapes forms the wing, or the shape of the beak and eye) is really cool. Amazing job, wish I could rate artistic and disagree at the same time haha. EDIT: Actually Autumn makes a good point, the line thickness could be tweaked a little bit. I didn't notice at first though.
So I drew an avatar for myself. woo hoo. p.s. it's apng so everyone use firefox so you can bask in my avatarial greatness.
thank you :) also i'm a bit of a perfectionist, haha but what was the disagree too?
You saying that they "weren't quite right". I personally like them just as much as the others :p EDIT: Mostly I just didn't see it at the time, I still think they're fine to be honest.
Progress:

Lookin good Maya, perhaps define the lips a little more, but it's going well. Also awesome Autumn, would make awesome tattoos, the elephant/goose are fine
Speaking of actual art school related matters, I was helping my girlfriend throw together some ideas for a project of hers and we came up with this. The splotches would actually be tulle fabric (tutu stuff) formed into floral like bunches, and the whole piece would be about 8' tall. For some reason this haphazard mockup has some qualities in it that I really like for some reason. Most likely from the implied motion. I think it'd even make a really interesting large canvas painting as well.
I think I'm about done with her face. time to take a shower and do some homework :X
