What is with the growing fascination of digital painting?
A pencil never hurt anyone
[editline]17th March 2011[/editline]
on second thought
I don't have a tablet/dad won't buy me one until end of the scool year and I'm a leftie, which makes it kind of impossible for me to digital paint.
Besides, a pencil is more practical since I can take it with me anywhere, unlike my PC.
Uhm why would being left make it impossible.
The settings on the tablet can be set to left handed.
[editline]18th March 2011[/editline]
also jeez, save up for one you arent like 12 are you.
Speaking of which I recently tried to make a "clean" drawing (AKA doesn't look doodle-ish) while trying something original.
Tell me how'd I do.

1. Being a leftie makes it impossible to draw using a mouse, I think I misphrased that.
2. No, I'm not 12(if you must know, [sp]16[/sp], and I can't go work to save up for one Because my education is more important at the moment.
I thought the pinstripe suit was wood for more than a moment. Actually everything kinda looks like wood. He looks like this thing:

It still seems doodle-ish

You have potential I can see that, but your pencil strokes seems too harsh/short.
Even though you are trying to make it seem 'clean' doodle-ish is really the best technique to learn to draw properly

Looks kinda like rusty metal
Also Egypt doesn't believe in young teenagers' labour.
I think

That's what I did to those two, I doodled the basic outline and details, erased the whole thing and shamelessly traced the barely visible remains so that it looks clean.
Examplary doodle:

I think doodles better, then it's easy to see the technique the artist uses and thus, it's easier to give feedback
weird composition with the rocks there, like you placed them there to avoid drawing the rest of the arm
weird composition with the rocks there, like you placed them there to avoid drawing the rest of the arm
I see that too.
I actually did avoid it for now haha.
The hand is not finished, so I just stacked the rock on top.
The finished hand will be in front of the rock.
it will still look weird, that rock draws too much attention
kk, I'll shift it away.
Some life drawings from the other day

Golly how I love foreshortening.
Whoops, tagged for NSFW

Why does she have super-highlights on the left edges? There is no super strong light source there. She's out in mother nature.
In fact, your light source doesn't make sense at all in that environment and the rocks ain't following her light source either.
Highlight removed on her.
I'll fix the rock too once I finalize the lighting.
Well. I did a better job with the fucked up looking feet and arms of a rat as well as the tail on the first try. But other than that this turned out way better.

Stuck more to the first rat, because, well it's self explained isn't it? They don't mix well together.
Kinky rat S&M

You bet. That tail ain't just for show.

You could have removed the rock on her left (our right) and tried to make it look like the sun was shinin' from over there...

Nope. Look at the light source her whole body and head has.
And because it's the sun and not a spotlight somewhere nearby it would never create a edge highlight like that. Not from where the sunlight comes from at least. It could create that effect on hair strands sticking out in the shaded areas however. But then you'd need a hairy body part as well as a different pose that actually allowed the light to hit in such a way.
Don't get mad at me for the quality I can't afford all the cool stuff.

Yeah It's incomplete, I only did the shadows for now.
Ugh I've had no inspiration today. And I seem to have become obsessed with typography. I've filled like 3 pages experimenting with handwriting.

My setup is to have the sun coming from the right of the canvas, her front-left.
The left side is mainly the reflection from the ocean.
I'll fiddle around with the lighting more.
IF I cannot get it right after couple of trials, I'll remove all the reefs and place her on the beach.

Well, any way you look at it you have a problem because you made it very studio-light set. But that's your best shot indeed. But her light source comes from the top right.
