nonono its fire ants because the ant is firing the other one haha [editline]21st March 2011[/editline] v:v:v
this doesn't come across at all tbh [editline]21st March 2011[/editline] but neither worker ants or fire ants is a very good or interestingly done pun
i think it's a cute drawing :3
Ok guys, I have no friends on FB online right now capable of giving friendly criticism, so looks like I have to go with the hardcore critics here for advice. Note that what I'm about to show you is a WIP, "prevention is better than cure" Don't expect anything worth rating artistic This is doodle where the fictional creature thing originated from Of course, I've shot down mistakes like the shoddy chainsaw and the elephant toes, as well as the poor smoke. Here's the WIP. Just to let you guys know, my artistry arsenal consists of gimp 2.6 and my mouse unfortunately, so don't expect me to pull off a photoshop. Obviously as you can tell, I'm not done and still working with shading and some other stuff. There is also other changes like the missing gun, mainly because I didn't see it fit. Also added some "metal tattoo" simply to give the left arm some zing. Plans:

Shading the metal bits with the burn/dodge tool then using smudge to make sure it doesn't make it look like MS paint.
Possibly removing the outlines.
Painting clips and tank cannon forest camo and painting suspension and exhaust to be rust
Advice much appreciated [sp]Please no "STOP" shit, I've posted for the sake of improvement, to make this something that would make you say "decent"[/sp] Edit: I forgot to mention that I was going to make the metal bits have some veins to add detail to it.
I don't think thats the method to use to achieve the best looking result for such a piece. Do you have a tablet?
I don't think thats the method to use to achieve the best looking result for such a piece. Do you have a tablet?
If you're talking to me. Then no, I don't have a tablet, nor, if I have to mention, have any interest or money to buy a tablet since this isn't what I do often.

Also about your armour dude, whatever you have going on I'm not sure exacly what it is. I mean if this is to be some conceptual design of a character I strongly suggest that you sit down and think about what you're actyally drawing, not just drawing some lines and go with whatever looks cool. And if you really want to improve, and this works 100% of the time learn the basic of drawing before you go on about making stuff refless and design stuff like this. Look up tutorials on human anatomy, draw from real life, observe how stuff works. If you do this kind of stuff I promise you you'll improve by miles. [editline]21st March 2011[/editline] also draw alot, that's important too. Never stop!
also draw alot, that's important too. Never stop!
I doodle total gibberish, does that count :downs: Edit: I also did it on lined paper because it was done, in a rough book out of boredom. There is actual thought put into this, hence, the words in the first picture. If you'd care, I'd be happy to tell what it is suppose to be.
try to think about what you're doing. So you actually improve
Alright first of all, if you're serious you shouldn't draw on lined paper.
I'm a bit curious about this part though. Is there specific reason other than that it will get in the way of the drawing?
it doesn't help anything and makes your work look messy and childish.
it will get in the way of the drawing?

it doesn't help anything and makes your work look messy and childish.
I guess I've shot down the answer myself, in a way. :smug: Anyways, thanks for the advice, now off to screw it up horribly somehow :v:
g'luck! <3

haha he'll love it
wait the left ear is really tiny. I just realised. Or the right ear whatever. The ear on the left.
[img_thumb]http://i53.tinypic.com/2nitziu.png[/img_thumb]
hmmm thats not entirely right [editline]21st March 2011[/editline] the ear part
Sorry to make it clear the ear line should run parallel to the eye line but slightly lower (look at sketch). Currently they are too low and not at the same angle as the eyes [editline]21st March 2011[/editline] Happy now detlef?
No need to snap [editline]21st March 2011[/editline] yeah im happy
Sorry I wasn't meant to sound snappy. [editline]21st March 2011[/editline]

Camera distortion.

Oh man, liquidfy must be one of the best functions in photoshop in fixing anatomy. actually nvm
oh no please dont [editline]21st March 2011[/editline] No wait it looks better
yeah I realized that it might not be a good idea. I'll just keep it to myself.
well it was an okay way of showing the mistakes [editline]21st March 2011[/editline] Xephio's mistakes
:(
well, I'll media tag it if you really want to see
hey don't feel bad we're trying to help you out. And that might mean pointing out mistakes
One of a good work-flow I found out recently is to get the detailed value out and work on anatomy using liquidfy tool and morph tool (free transform) btw. It's something you cannot do on traditional medium. It might help you some way as well. Really easy to control, but you need to paint everything on the same layer. You can over push a part to the other direction to get a sense of how it should actually look like using liquidfy. Can help you a lot in fixing mistakes. If you stare at the same thing for too long, you usually lose sense of the 'correct version,' so just push it to the other extreme.
I wouldn't recommend liquify tool for painting. anytime
