[QUOTE=Ven Kaeo;30060825]T-Mobile and Sprint both offer unlimited data with their most popular plans, which include unlimited everything for like $80 after the data plan cost.
I sell cell phones for my job dude I'm not just talking shit[/quote]
Haha never suggested you were, just pointing out the use of an app that cuts the crap. As for plans, I thought no American carrier offers an unlimited bolt on data plan anymore as of a couple of weeks ago?

The only one that advertises a limit is AT&T, and theirs is 2GB.
T-Mobile has truly unlimited Data, but I think Sprint secretly has a data cap, but it's really high or something. They both advertise unlimited data with their plans.
T-Mobile has a special plan right now during the summer, unlimited talk, text, and 4g web browsing for $79.99, and Sprint has an "Everything Data" plan which has 450 landline minutes, unlimited texting, unlimited mobile to mobile calling, and unlimited data.
[QUOTE=Amez;30057456]A bit off topic, what's that program you're using to render the video?[/QUOTE]
That be Premiere CS5.
Also, because this video is hugely huge and I'll have to upload it tonight, here's the base numbers:
[quote]
App running on iPhone 3GS 16gb New Bootrom over GPRS:
Forum index: 6 seconds
Thread listing: 4 seconds
Thread view: 8 seconds
Compared with the baseline ADSL connection:
Forum index: 11 seconds - 5s faster
Thread listing: 4 seconds - Identical
Thread view: 3 seconds - 5s slower
Now compared with other GPRS solutions:
Tethered Nexus S to a netbook:
Forum index: 1 minute 20 seconds - 1m 14s faster
Thread listing: 24 seconds - 20s faster
Thread view: 30 seconds - 28s faster
iPhone MobileSafari:
Forum index: 2 minutes 32 seconds - [b]2m 32s faster[/b]
Thread listing: 38 seconds - [b]34s faster[/b]
Thread view: 1 minute 25 seconds - [b]1m 17s faster[/b]
[/quote]
I'm not bullshitting, [b]it's fast.[/b]
Numbers look good, if slightly confusing in that format. It really is very snappy, I think that'll show nicely in the video.
Anyhow, while the app is in review, I'm not sitting around doing nothing. BBcode support is in progress and coming along nicely.
Image support and YouTube support should be in soon, with the help of Ninja101, who's done an excellent job in reformatting post data into a MUCH more mobile friendly format. I'd had a design in mind for this for a while, but the implementation was rather difficult, so props to him for that one!
A number of you have complained about icons, if you can provide ones you think look better that have retina versions too, and we have a consensus that they look better, I'll use them.
I'm still thinking about how best to implement thread icons for thread creation, we'll need to keep the icons locally, so if they change on FP it requires an app update. Must be a better way of doing that, I'll keep thinking.
Ratings wise, the UI could use an overhaul. Currently we're limited by the very low-resolution icons for ratings, using alternatives just doesn't feel right.
So, now that's browsing, posting, ratings and thread creation dealt with, what else do we need to do?

Ticker support is ready in the API, and the app UI for that is in progress. Search is very popular on there, so I'll take that on next. I'm not entirely sure why you'd want to search much why mobile, so I don't know why it's so popular, but it is, so hey, that's next. After that I'll deal with PMs.
Great work!
Ninja101 is a programming [i]god[/i], his new BBcode API-side stuff works amazingly well.
I think this is a beautifully elegant solution to doing BBcode on a mobile device...
I remember a while back I sent Garry all my iTunes gift cards since I never thought I'd need them. Now I have no money and I want to buy this :frown:
Media tags, image tags and url tags all handled now.
Update going out to beta users in the next few days.
I'd show you but it's all really ugly at the moment, needs the UI sprucing up.

Why would you do that?
I like being nice.

Same deal works for URLs too, they'll open inside the app. Also quotes.

for some reason I actually prefer microscopic text on my iPhone instead of mobile oriented websites
-snip, should've read the numbers-
[QUOTE=Ezhik;30076792]Were those tests performed over GPRS or EDGE?[/QUOTE]
Which?
Wouldn't it be better to open the YouTube videos up directly in the YouTube app? I'm pretty sure I've seen other apps that do that.

It'd be a pain in the ass for those of us on older models which don't have multitasking.
[QUOTE=Hexxeh;30076813]Which?[/QUOTE]
Leach's ones, but I should have actually looked at the numbers first before asking.

I'm not completely sure but I don't think it actually closes the app, it just overlays the [url=http://easyiphoneguide.com/images/easy-iphone/video-youtube.jpg]video view[/url] within the app.

If I remember rightly, that's a bit of a hack. You're actually just popping that view using a webview. I figure there's no harm in showing the mobile YouTube page in-case you want to see comments.
Just seen luaduck's demo video, it is sweet. Link will be in here soon.
Do you have any clue as to what the time frame is for release? How much time are we looking at here? It keeps changing on me, it seems.

We're at the mercy of Apple on this one, so really, I couldn't say. It's in the hands of the App Review board at the moment.

clearly mobilesafari is superior, as it leaves more time for daft punk.
[QUOTE=moesislack;30060888]Pretty useless for me. Unlimited data up in this bitch. Just be more efficient.[/QUOTE]
Relatively sure efficiency is the point of the app....
Looks good. Better than waiting a while for safari to load Facepunch

I'll not miss wanting to read a post then the page automatically scrolls down because the page wasn't finished loading. I hate that shit.
Also awesome video luaduck

Try running ipod.app and safari.app at the same time while something's playing
