Hopefully there's a punch an app reviewer in the face session at WWDC next week, $2 a punch. I'd go broke.
In other news, Overv has resumed work on his Android app.
So Apple called today. They still think I need to use non-consumable. Upon asking how I prevent their incorrect UI from appearing when doing so, they couldn't say.
Non-consumable upgrades allow subsequent upgrades from the same iTunes Account for free, so that's no use.
Would that mean that you just have to pay once for all accounts to be valid for the app?
Would that mean that you just have to pay once for all accounts to be valid for the app?
With all the people saying they wouldn't buy it, could you imagine how many people would PM known app users asking if they can get their account authed for the app
No, not even that actually.
Means you can't upgrade more than one account for a single iTunes account.
Hey Hexxeh, I have an idea.
Why not do the account upgrade like you do titles, except instead of adding a title it adds the upgraded account to a special user group? If they aren't in that group then FP won't validate their login from the FP app.
That way Apple makes no money. :v:
They have a rule that you need to offer the same upgrades inside the app at the same or lower price.
I'm confused as to why they won't let you do it the consumable way, as they would potentially make more money.
How about making first upgrade cost "xxx", the second "xxx" and the third "xxx"?
Have the first account upgrade in the app, then have something on the site to allow your other accounts (alts) to use the app? Would that work?

I have no control over the IAP interface, and if we're using non-consumable I can't stop subsequent account upgrades for free.
Fucking hell I just want a APP!!!
Fucking apple
I have no control over the IAP interface, and if we're using non-consumable I can't stop subsequent account upgrades for free.
so just let us buy it once and use it for any accounts?
so just let us buy it once and use it for any accounts?
No because then just once person could buy the upgrade and upgrade everyone's accounts.
that sucks, but how else are you going to get it on the app store?
No idea.
Why not just fuck it all and go Cydia?
I'm sure you and saurik could work the receipt thing out.
I mean especially now, every device is untethered (except iPad 2, but meh).
not everyone jailbreaks their devices
Making it Cydia only narrows the audience, lots of Facepunchers aren't jailbroken, including garry for example.
not everyone jailbreaks their devices
Well you should
Well you should
I jailbroke my iPad. I see no reason to jailbreak my iPhone
As of iOS 5 I won't be caring about jailbreaks either, so I'd prefer to keep this official and not Cydia.
ok here it goes hezzy: release it for freeeeeeeeeeeeeee

actually no, $0.99 but you log into any account on it
so to buy the app it costs $0.99 but you can then use any account to browse with

The same reason you jailbroke your iPad. Durr

I'm starting to think the upgrade DRM is becoming more trouble than its worth, and that it should be put up as a paid app. Still the original price. There's no reason to adjust it just because Apple are idiots.
But, say it's released as a paid app. 100% chance someone will crack it, and it'll be up for a free download somewhere.

I wanted to see what all the fuss was about?

Isn't it possible to link your iTunes account with your fp account so the app can check if you purchased this app. Then to enable the service you need to pay over a form on facepunch? Leaving an in app purchase completely out of the deal.
Hopefully you can sort something out Hexxeh. Seems a shame that there's a problem getting in the way of your hard work. Apple should understand the potential pirating of your app if you go their way.

Apple don't care at the end of the day.

Nope, that breaks their IAP rules and you'd get rejected for it.
OK, I have another thought.
Account Tokens!
Basically you buy tokens you can use to upgrade your account. By definition, that is a consumable item.
Would that work?
