I was just asking a question, there's no need to be aggressive.. The guy who invented the Internet hasn't made a penny of it. Everyone's intentions and aims are different I was just wondering.
Live API access isn't totally open at the moment because it's not complete, some people have it, but it's not available to everyone. Staging API access is available though, on an alternate instance of the forums. What use did you have in mind for it?
god damn people it's five bucks you can make more that in an hour with a minimum wage job and still have enough left over to buy yourself a nice drink from the local market
Or I can just view FP from my internet browser on my iDevice for free. Anybody who would PAY to view and post on a forum they can already view and post on needs to seriously rethink their values
Spotify app, you can listen on your desktop for free, but it costs on your iPhone. You're paying for the convenience.
Uh, because I've spent a long time on it and I want to make some money on that time spent? If you don't think it's worth it, don't buy it. Would you want some money for something you'd spent hundreds of hours on writing? I think so.
You don't start out by overpricing your products, you make a name for yourself with cheap or free things, THEN start charging when you've shown your customer base that you have something WORTH paying for. A clunky web browser that's limited to one website is hardly worth $5, especially when you look at sites like Reddit that have the same thing for free.
Looking forward to the Android version.
Spotify app, you can listen on your desktop for free, but it costs on your iPhone. You're paying for the convenience.
See, the thing is, Spotify is something that's already known about pretty widely. You're paying because they've already shown you that you get a quality product. Also, reddit has a free app for posting\viewing, and I'm pretty sure Digg has a free one too.

Lovely preconception you have there. There's a free trial if you'd like to see if it's worth your money.
What use did you have in mind for it?
Mobile webapp
You're calling it a "clunky web browser that's limited to one website" before you've even used it. Lovely preconception you have there. It didn't seem at all faster than doing it via safari on my iPod, and the only thing I'm yet to be able to do on safari is look at an individuals event log or report a post which I don't need to do anyway. If I can do pretty much the exact same things for free why the fuck should I give you my $5 just because you played around with code and learned how to make an app? You're also seeming to miss the point that it's POINTLESS to pay for an app that provides you with an already free service. You mentioned spotify, but spotify is something that you CANNOT access from the ipod already for free. This IS something you can access from the iPod for free.
Mobile webapp
Ask garry. Might want to mention if you're ban on sight and on an alt, though. Could affect any decision, since you're accepting users login credentials etc.
I just bought an iPhone yesterday, I'll be getting this.
What use did you have in mind for it?
various interfaces for personal use

Anywho, you're entitled to your opinion, but keep it that way and not as threadshitting. :v: [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline]
various interfaces for personal use
I'm not entirely sure that'd be enough, we'd want to know what exactly those were...
Ask garry. I'd be hesitant to put my credentials into anyone else's service too.

It doesn't matter how long you spent making your app, you need to make apps to learn. I want to make movies, that doesn't mean I can charge $10 for a DVD and have people buy it, I need to show people that I can make something WORTH paying for, and THEN charge it. What the fuck have you done to show that you can make something worth paying for?
whats the drawback to the free trial? i dont even know why im asking, i dont have an apple device lol
whats the drawback to the free trial? i dont even know why im asking, i dont have an apple device lol
It's clunky and you're better off just using the built in web browser
I'm not entirely sure that'd be enough, we'd want to know what exactly those were...
ones i have in mind are a desktop app (probably winforms), or an ajax-rich web app.
It's clunky and you're better off just using the built in web browser
MobileSafari is shit for Facepunch
It's clunky and you're better off just using the built in web browser
well if the free trial is clunky and slow it would give the impression the paid one is clunky and slow and not worth it
hurr Something similar to OAuth might be useful. I'd be hesitant to put my credentials into anyone else's service too.
Maybe, but that's why not just anyone can get a Live API at the moment.
whats the drawback to the free trial? i dont even know why im asking, i dont have an apple device lol
Nothing, you get access to the application for a period of time to try it out. Who let you try the app? I believe this app is worth $5, if you don't, fine. But don't start borderline flaming over it, or you'll end up enjoying some time as a red member. Since you've continued while I was writing this reply, you're now on your last chance. Just because you're being calm and keep saying that it's worth $5 doesn't mean that I'm in the wrong. Talk about biased moderating. I come from an area where throwing some fucks and shits into a sentence is routine regardless of your attitude in the conversation.
I do have to agree with Bigby Wolf he has raised some good points, I knew you would bring your moderator powers into this though Hexxeh.

As much as you provide a respectable point of view, I cannot respect that because you sir are a fucking idiot.
What? How is that not flaming? Because I have some curses in my post? Did I hurt your virgin eyes? As far as I can see I'm "flaming" just by saying that it's not worth $5.
Hey stop bitching about the price, It's only $5. Like seriously. It's uncool. [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline] If you don't like the price, don't buy it.

If you came in and gave suggestions on how to make the application better, that's fair enough.
Do you think it's right to come into a thread about the app and tell the creator that what they've done is pointless? It's not constructive in any way. If you came in and gave suggestions on how to make the application better, that's fair enough.
I'm not saying it's pointless. I'm saying it's not worth $5 and that in the state it's in right now you might as well use the web browser. I told you what I thought sucked about it, there's no advantage over the browser. It's just as slow, and the only thing I can't do on my browser is click on the event log or report post buttons. And again, Reddit and Digg have FREE apps that do THE EXACT SAME THING THAT THIS DOES. Why should facepunches app cost $5 when those are free? It isn't like they didn't do any work coding their apps, but if they charged for it, people would just use the internet browser. Unless you think of something that the app can give that you CAN'T get from the browser, you're being nothing short of greedy for requiring that people pay to use your app.

I do not receive any profits from Facepunch, and so have to make my money somewhere. You can't get the same speed, ease of use and minimal data usage from the browser. You did say it was pointless: "You're also seeming to miss the point that it's POINTLESS to pay for an app that provides you with an already free service." Until you can prove that you've used the application, your views on the performance are pretty worthless. You never said who in the beta program gave you access, for example.
