You know what I'd like to see in an app? A way to save posts or threads as drafts. Something similar to the old system that would keep track of all the threads you've viewed recently would also be nice. You could also take advantage of the notification system and thread subscriptions if you haven't already. Is that constructive enough?
Something similar to the old system that would keep track of all the threads you've viewed recently would also be nice.
We have this, it's called "Read Threads" and is one of the tabs at the bottom of the app. If you'd have actually used it, you'd have seen it.
Digg and Reddit are huge companies who can soak up the costs of developing an application through the profits from their websites. I do not receive any profits from Facepunch, and so have to make my money somewhere. You can't get the same speed, ease of use and minimal data usage from the browser. You did say it was pointless: "You're also seeming to miss the point that it's POINTLESS to pay for an app that provides you with an already free service." Until you can prove that you've used the application, your views on the performance are pretty worthless. You never said who in the beta program gave you access, for example.
And how did they get that big? They started out small and provided a free service, people liked it, then they were able to get enough traffic to start selling ad space. Just because you have an app doesn't mean you're at the same point in the company chronologically as another one with the app.

That's not really up for discussion. Feel free at any time to prove you've used the application. Hint: API login requests are logged, unless you're an alt, you've not used it.

I remember it being completely different, pretty sure this was before the server switch. Android damn it!
It's on the site too, I said the old system. I remember it being completely different, pretty sure this was before the server switch.
I don't know what the old system was like. Feel free to describe it.
And again, Reddit and Digg have FREE apps that do THE EXACT SAME THING THAT THIS DOES. Why should facepunches app cost $5 when those are free? It isn't like they didn't do any work coding their apps, but if they charged for it, people would just use the internet browser.
What about the myriad of for-pay Twitter apps? I paid for Tweetie before it was acquired by Twitter and made free and I'm happy with what I got. A native app will beat mobile safari any day.
I don't know what the old system was like. Feel free to describe it.
You've been here longer than me, I never said that I remembered it. All I know is that it disappeared one day and I hadn't thought about it until I started thinking of things to suggest. I've been wanting a draft system for ages but never bothered to say anything until you said to give suggestions. And I'm not 100% sure if it was you, but didn't you make a notification program for windows a litte while back?

[editline]21st May 2011[/editline] Again, Twitter was a widespread service long before the pay apps came.
So what's Facepunch? Tweetie is an excellent example of a similar application. Twitter was a website. Tweetie made accessible this site more efficient on an iPhone, but charged for this. Facepunch is a website. Facepunch for iOS makes accessing the site more efficient on an iPhone, but charges for this. Do you see the difference? I don't.

The only difference I see between this and the web browser is the GUI. Tweetie is also significantly better than using the web browser where this is marginally better if even.
Again, Twitter was a widespread service long before the pay apps came.
Facepunch's been around longer than Twitter bro
Making an app for a forum is worrisome. Sometimes it turns out great, but other times I just don't see how the functionality is efficient. $5 is a bit steep, but if the app comes out solid it will be worth it.
I already said the difference between this. The only difference I see between this and the web browser is the GUI
You haven't used the application. If you had, you'd know how much faster it was, this is the difference. Navigating to a thread and posting in MobileSafari takes well over a minute. Navigating to a thread and posting takes seconds on Facepunch for iOS. If you want your opinions of the application to hold any ground whatsoever, you'll need to prove you've used the application. A screenshot of this post in it would do nicely, or telling me who's device you used so I could verify with them. [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline]
Facepunch's been around longer than Twitter bro
This. Twitter was launched 2006, Facepunch has been around since 2004/2005.
Facepunch's been around longer than Twitter bro
Time ≠ Quality Not to say that Twitter is better than FP, but as I said, tweetie app is considerably better than the web browser, while the fp app isn't so much. Would you be willing to let me test it out on my own iPod? If it actually is faster than I recall it being I'll drop that

Also, just saying, it doesn't take me "minutes" to go from the front page to a thread to post, it takes a minute max unless I'm typing a long post.
Also, just saying, it doesn't take me "minutes" to go from the front page to a thread to post, it takes a minute max unless I'm typing a long post.
You've been issued your challenge.
Just don't respond to the troll, you are an mod you should know that.
You've been issued your challenge.
Yeah, that's not how it works. If you want me to stop saying that your app has no functionality that the mobile browser doesn't have, why should I have to prove that I used a past build that was clunky and shitty? It almost seems like you'd deny that ANY build was anything short of perfection.
Is it that hard to understand? If you don't like the price of the app then don't buy it. Don't go undoing hard work these moderators have done who have dedicated their time, when they didn't need to. They want to make the forum more accessible on the go. Of course they are going to want money for their hard earned work.

That's right, I LOST money. Why? Because I didn't produce something worth paying for, and neither did Hexxeh yet in my opinion. Are you saying that if I have a contrary opinion I shouldn't be allowed to post? I've brought up valid points and used real world examples, I'm not just repeating that it's shit over and over. I've thrown in some suggestions, and explained why I don't think it's worth paying for.

And because if you want anyone to actually believe a word you say about the performance of the application, you should probably prove you've actually used it. I have a MySQL table here that proves you haven't, your move.

I never said I used my account. Why should I believe you about the performance if YOU can't prove it to ME? I'm the one you want to pay $5 to get the app.

You just seem to be avoiding the question, which has probably been asked three times now.
So if someone pirates the app and logs in they get perma-banned? I notice you didn't specify that anywhere.
How hard is it just to say whose account you used to access the FP app? I'm not avoiding it, there's no reason for it. He wants to convince me to pay him $5 to use the app that I've used in the past and seen first hand that it was bad, and his marketing campaign is to demand that I prove myself before he just shows me that his app is better?

If you did the same demo I'm about to over GPRS the difference in speed between Safari and FPiOS would be even more gigantic. I'd do the demo on GPRS but it's difficult to record videos on a physical device. If you want to put some egg on my face and actually prove you used the application even after I've proved how fast it is, post who let you use the application. Don't worry, I won't take any action against either or you, I'm just genuinely curious as to whether you really used the application.
So if someone pirates the app and logs in they get perma-banned? I notice you didn't specify that anywhere.
how do you pirate a server-side upgrade?
