+1 to this. Smartness is actually what made me join. I was sick of ppl tlking liek dis.
It is kinda funny, I used to be apart of another forum that was pretty damn popular back in the day. Slowly it died and was eventually sold off, I started spending more and more time here after that.
Most of the time I'm in the news section or laughing in LMAO pics.
Its kind crazy all the shit that has happened here when you think about it. I fondly remember the smartness system and the instaban system, at one point in time people where getting banned for using the word snigger. Oh and the memes, before they were known as memes. At one point in time I pissed someone off and they actually started a thread about me which was quickly locked, but it gave me some legit e-cred.
Now that I think about it i miss YTMND too.
I remember 'browsing' the forums in 2004 but never bothered to register until february
then that account got banned and I've been stuck with this awful username ever since

This is strange. All of the problems I had as a twelve year old have been solved in some ways, and others have come back to haunt me. I was terribly lonely as a kid, a lot. Having an online community helped out quite a bit. I'm not lonely anymore - I have a boyfriend of four years, many friends, and I enjoy my life. Yet, I'm still afraid of the advance of time as I was when I was younger. I feared then, as I do now, waking up one day and finding it's my last. I'm still a bit directionless when it comes to my skills and talents, insofar as I'm not entirely sure what to do with them. People were surprised at finding out how young I was when we'd chat on MSN or Steam, as I communicated quite well - a lot of that came from being naturally articulate, on top of adapting to the smartness system.
I'm not sure what else to say, really. As much as it might seem trite to be so thankful for an online community of all things, my interactions here - as cringeworthy as they might've been back in the day - made me a better person, or at least a happier one; so, I am quite thankful for having had this 'place' for so long.
I've been here for half as much. I've seen many forum communities die out, people completely abandon the world of online videogaming, and yet Facepunch has always been here.
Can you imagine that Garry's stubbornness could've made all of this never happen?

It's strange to think that I've been on Facepunch for 5 years let alone 10 for the op and others.
I still remember where I was and what I was doing when I registered.
I found the site while wasting time on a school laptop in Spanish class toward the end of 8th grade.
I remember in 2010 when I asked for a $500 bill reskin.
In 5 years nobody ever made one.
I didn't start posting anything original until 2012 with a poorly overlayed screenshot of a metrocop shoving burnt corpses into a crematory.
I've only been posting weekly or daily since I started college last fall though.

This forum has actually been more important to my life than I ever would have imagined. I dont really have any friends on here per say. But Creationism corner (r.i.p.) and its remnants have really pushed me to improve my art and actually become what I've always wanted to be. I dont think I'd be anywhere near 3D and game art if it hadn't been for this forum.

i'm glad i joined fp when i did, i sure have enjoyed the forums while growing up going through school and life.
I don't really use facepunch anymore but I grew up on it.
My first account was September 2006
Pretty early into my time on here I ended up getting banned for like 2 days and was pissed and made a new account, which is why my name has "v2" at the end.
That being said I come here much less now that they removed the creative sub-forums (especially the MS paint one R.I.P.) but I might get back into it. Especially so if another create a battle thread happens :v:
