Whatever motherfuckers keep attacking silk road need to get their shit beat irl
Fuck these assholes man I want my drugs
it's the fbi
Government agencies have the resources and biggest reason for doing these attacks. They have no other means of bringing the site down, and I'm pretty sure they aren't just going to stand by and watch.
That's fucked up if this is seriously a government's doing. It makes the most sense though, I'm not sure why any random joe would decide "hey I don't want people to buy drugs online let's fuck this shit up"

It's all part of the "War on Drugs"

I highly doubt its a government agency doing this. If they spent the resources bringing down the site so that nobody can make transactions, then that means there will be NO busts, thus no possession forfeiture (and no bonus checks for the officers conducting raids). Doing these attacks would net zero return other than the fact you get to sleep at night knowing nobody will use the Silk Road to buy drugs.
I've been interested in this. How do I go about the whole Bitcoin thing? I've never really understood that.
Price is low - buy buy buy!
Just got a bunch of coins for $85. Trying to recuperate my lost profit from not noticing this latest crash in time and having to sell at 105. That's what I get from being fucked up on mxe all the time I guess :v:
Site is completely down atm...fucking ddosers
Seeing SR logo with error sign... is the black market reloaded good?
UPDATE (05/03/2013 0545 UTC): The attacks have been coming non-stop since my last update. We've been able to keep the site open more than half the time with only minor issues such as limited image uploading for vendors. Every hour we are making progress and I am feeling much more confident that we will come out on top within the next few days. Still, expect some unannounced down-time here and there.
UPDATE (05/01/2013 0238 UTC): Silk Road is open and accessible. As soon as the attacker finds out, he will likely change his tactics and try to take the site down again. Hopefully he won't be able to, but time will tell.
UPDATE (04/30/2013 2022 UTC): Still working on a solution. I haven't given up hope that we will be able to go forward as a public market without limiting access. We are putting all of our efforts into making that a reality. If that changes, I will let you know here.
UPDATE (04/30/2013 0035 UTC): We have come a long way in the battle, but still do not have the upper hand. It's looking more and more like a restructuring of the tor software or even the tor network will be required to mitigate the kind of attack we are under. If this can be solved by modifying the tor client software running the silk road .onion, then it will be a matter of patching and redeploying the hidden service. If it is a network issue, it will require the cooperation of the Tor developers, or running a new network of nodes. I haven't given up hope for a faster solution, but if one can not be found, then we will move to a semi private scheme where users will be given access through many private URLs. I'll keep everyone updated on how we will move forward, but please be prepared for a few more days at the least of no access.
UPDATE (04/29/2013 0715 UTC): Just want to let you all know I'm still here and we're still doing battle behind the scenes to get the forums and main site running again. It is incredibly discouraging to have everything we've worked so hard for taken down by some anonymous and malevolent person, but your kind words of encouragement do wonders for our moral. We are on the cutting edge of anonymity technology here. The attacks being used against us MUST be overcome if Silk Road and any anonymous public sites are to have a future. Thank you again for your patience with all of this, and pray that we make it through stronger than we started.
We are being attacked once more. This time the forums are under attack as well. Access is intermittent, so hopefully some of you can read this. We are doing everything possible to overcome this latest attack. Please be patient while we find a solution.
my money is stuck in sr right now, so lets just hope that the btc price goes up :)
108 already, looks very good so far!
Ugh I really want to buy bitcoins but I'm so paranoid that it'd crash and fuck me over. Should I cave and just buy them?

Well if you plan on sitting on them idk dont wanna say yes or no and fuck you over lol but at the moment i personally would. But imo if you dont want to risk anything I just buy the amt of bitcoins I plan on using and do it all as quick as possible in one day. Maybe lose or gain a few bucks but its usually pretty safe.

I was planning on putting in more than I need to try my skills at day trading. I think I like your idea a lot better though. I'll just do this shit as quick as possible
Do you want to invest or buy drugs?
[editline]7th May 2013[/editline]
Oh if it's day trading I can only say go ahead.
Bitcoin is an easy as fuck way to boost your capital if you're smart and know when to buy and sell. I've earned a fuckload on it.
Yeah investing in bitcoins seems like a horrible idea. It's too volatile if you don't check daily, or more often
If you're going to invest, just watch the market for a few day or a week and see the daily trends, if you're going short term investment

Holy fuck.
The most influential financial TV channel in China made a detailed report on Bitcoin for half an hour 4 days ago. Chinese searches for bitcoin and downloads of the btc wallet have spiked since then.
This is huge. Here comes the Chinese bubble!
[editline]7th May 2013[/editline]
Fuck me media in China are going nuts over it, all suddenly reporting on bitcoin and how its value went up six times in a month etc
That one half-hour report is being repeated on CCTV and other channels every day
I think the Chinese government might just have embraced bitcoin and is spreading the message.
Holy shit guys this is huge
So tell me Mindtwistah does this mean I should buy some bitcoins?
Yes, absolutely. We're going to the moon.
I hope this is true, converting my litecoins to bitcoins right now.
Well shit, if that's true, I'm putting 100 in tomorrow.
Xinhuanet is going nuts over it and they are tightly controlled by the party. Just look at these headlines, extremely pro-bitcoin:

The Party is really pushing for bitcoin. Why? Because A; Party members have stocked up on bitcoin and now want to pump the price up and make it more stable by having a larger userbase as well as B; China wants to undermine the USD and buy in early on what they hope will be the new global economic system.
Some speculation about B from a bitcoin website:
China Brings Bitcoin to Its Populace
Last week CCTV, the predominant state television broadcaster in China, aired an overview of bitcoin explaining both how some folks have made money from the new currency and how many see it as a speculative bubble. The Chinese government, which has more than a dozen agencies regulating media and information flow, clearly wants its population to know about bitcoin despite the successful global use of the currency to circumvent capital controls and undermine central authority – governmental aspects China takes quite seriously.
If China successfully aids the proliferation of bitcoin, the implications on the global currency system could be monumental. Rather than having to use USD as an intermediary currency or establish swap lines to support international trade, a world conducting trade with bitcoin would mean the USD currently used for this purpose would be leaked as additional supply in the Forex markets, driving down the value of USD and driving up borrowing rates for the US. This change, on a large scale, would drastically accelerate the effects of the inflationary policies already taken up by the Federal Reserve. A significant inflationary trend in USD could potentially create a devastating cycle as global banks looking to preserve their wealth seek alternative reserve currencies, even further reducing the dollar’s value.
The effect in China and on the bitcoin market is already being realized. Bitcoin wallet software has been downloaded nearly 40,000 times since the program aired three days ago – that’s almost 7 times the number downloaded in the US over the same period and 13 times the rate of downloads in China leading up to the report.
If this trend continues, we may have just witnessed the single most significant event in bitcoin history since the currency’s inception.
If the Chinese start buying in and funneling wealth to bitcoin we will reach quadruple (or possibly even quintuple) digits in a matter of months. And it sure looks to be heading in that direction when the party is pushing it so hard.
holy crap, thanks for the info Twistah
No rise yet.
It takes time for these kind of things to get off. It's going to take a while until mainstream China will start buying in, weeks or maybe even months until the real action starts. Most people will try their hand at mining first to get a feel around it (which is evident since mining nodes have opened in China in the past week like crazy). People are also downloading blockchains, observing, learning, building up confidence (is this a scam? ponzi scheme? what happens to my money? etc)
People have to be exposed enough until they jump on the train, once that starts it will set off a chain reaction due to the rapid price increase and mainstream popularity (just like the latest 2 bubbles).
But the party is really pushing it judging from the media exposure bitcoin has received in China, so large-scale adoption will happen sooner or later.
We're playing a game of hold for now, patience is key. There are only 2 ways this can go in the end; 0 or the moon.
Twistah thank you brotha. Prlly wuda never heard tht info before it was too late XD
Gonna go stock up on btc for a while. Buy some durgs here and there while hopefully getting a nice wallet fulla cash =p
