Here's a thought, humans don't need to evolve; our technology makes evolution invalid.
Ever thought about evolving to become smarter? No, probably because you're not evolved enough.
Nobody thinks my idea is a good idea. :saddowns:
I wanna come in here wrecked day and philosophize with you guys.. :)
I nearly killed a friend while he was stoned with a massive realization.
Me: Dude, you are a young earth christian, right?
Him: Yeah, so what?
Me: How old is the universe
Him: Couple thousand years. Why you talking bout this.
Me: How far away are the stars we are looking at right now?
Him: Millions of light years away.
Me: You are wrong.
Him: Whaa?!
Me: If the universe were 3,000 years old, we would only just now be seeing the birth of stars 3000 light years away. If it were that young, we couldn't see past that.
He stopped breathing for like 60 seconds.

He is now an athiest.

I highly doubt it, I'd say that the knowledge base is just more expanded and available today than it was in the past, giving the illusion that today we are smarter when we just have more information to expand upon.

This thread is not dumb at all frank_g. If you don't understand things we say just ask questions and we will try and enlighten you with answers.
Smoke weed and get a masters degree then you can talk about philosophy
I sometimes imagine a future where only our mind survives. We end up replacing our bodies with technology.
Philosophy has to be the most worthless class ever imo.
Philosophy is really pointless. But then, so is art. It's just something that humans have developed in their spare time to quell the overwhelming reality of it all.
I really hope thats what you look like irl cause holy loly. Sweet jamz bro

Yea it's interesting but I don't see the benefit for having a diploma in philosophy. Who hires philosophers?

Sad to say it, but it's true. Very devout christians generally believe this.
I have never met someone in Finland at the time of my life, who would have said or belived in such thing.
It's a pretty common belief. Especially where I live, in the Bible Belt.
From what I see, the Christian religion is like a huge hobo syndicate that offers some fake-services. They invented a god so people will come at the church to pray and stuff like that. Then, everytime there's an event going on, they ask for cash... They make tons of things just to ask some cash. It's like a huge hobo-syndicate where all they do is begging for cash, while brain-washing the citizens.
That's the way I see this, maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm not.
Mind-expanding drugs.
You only think you are expanding your mind when you are taking drugs. When in fact, your window to experience something extraordinary and unusual in life shrinks each time you get high.

No, it's not even a myth... Your thinking process changes and you have an expanded mind at the cost of a rational one but nonetheless you have an expanded mind. And no, there is no "window to experience something extraordinary and unusual in life" shrinkage.

...what? They generally take donations to send people to work at missions in 3rd world countries. When I was younger I used to go to a church in my hometown. All the money taken up at offering was used for either missions or to help out a local family. My home neighborhood was pretty poor. Not much money is needed to light a church that only operates for about 10 hours a week. Many pastors live in parsonages and the church will give them allowances of money for food and shit while paying for all the bills of the parsonage. Usually none of the money is used for the gain of the church unless they need renovations or to expand it. When that one expanded though, they had several anonymous donors that paid the whole bill of like $300k. We had a few very wealthy people there. Whatever, I hated that place.
wait isnt frank_g orglar?

How do you know?
Pretty sure he revealed it a while ago, I guess nobody else noticed.
U high as hell cause even I dont know what you're taling about
I think the door swings both ways in the argument that we couldnt see light from stars millions of lightyears away if the universe were only several thousand years old. One could theorize that from the moment of creation some light has been reaching us, so that we never really had to wait to see it, or more logically, there are uncertanties to the accuracy of things like carbon dating, and how we see things through telescopes. Perhaps what we currently believe to be millions of lightyears away is merely thousands? And carbon dating isnt a sure way to tell the age of something, though much stock is placed in it.
Im not for either point, I think we cant say for sure until were dead. What Im for is being observational, and objective. Just sit back and question what you believe for once, either way, if you think there is a god, really consider the points against his existence, as well as weigh personal experience, and the same goes for an atheist, if you believe there is no god, try to think of it from the perspective of a religious person. Ive said before, Ive done too many drugs to not believe in some kind of spirituality, but Ive also seen and experienced alot of bizarre shit, and I have to say I believe theres spirits, just because Ive seen proof and I know a good deal about witchcraft, alchemy, selling your soul to the devil etc. I also think theres probably some kind of god or gods, as well as hierarchy for demons/spirits, but Ive also seen belief in such things go HORRIBLY awry, so I try not to get drawn in to that kind of thing because it can fuck with your mind.
In closing, Ill go back to the age of the earth debate with this page:

Talk about food for thought :science:
This one specifically brings the accuracy of dating techniques into question:

TL;DR: We'll never understand the world we live in.

Unless Orglar was some sort of troll persona, no. I can tell they're not the same person.
