The proper thing to do when someone doesn't respond to you when you touch them and say something verbal like "sup" is to either ask "anything wrong?" or leave it be, the latter being the better choice because you don't even know the guy, therefore it's none of your business.
Though he was acting like a psychopath too, I could be having the shittiest day of my life and still give a better response than punching the guy in the face, unless I didn't like him. Maybe "Leave me alone" or "Fuck off" would've been more appropriate.

He didn't respond so I was like "hey" again. He pulls back and punches me in the face. I'm thinking why would he do that I thought we were cool. I didn't actually say that, I was too shocked to say anything really. He said something about me attacking his arm and just trudges off without anything else while I'm clutching my face in hopes he didn't knock any teeth out. He didn't, I think about running up to him and beating the crap out of him. But alas, I'm an FPer so I didn't punch him for "morals". After I cleaned myself up, I noticed like everybody was sympathizing with me and it spread through the school pretty fast. The kid got suspended for finals week (if I fought back I would have been too, thank goodness I didn't) and when he came back he didn't even apologize to me or anything. We never spoke after that. I guess the reason why I wasn't labeled as a wimp for not retaliating was because everybody thought he was weird and when I think about it sometimes I kind of thought he was a weird guy altogether. Not normal. So I learned a valuable lesson to pick my acquaintances more carefully and really analyze the people I'm with more.
