I think smoking is more dangerous if you start early, like at 13 - 17 maybe. For example my grandma has been smoking all of her life (but only since she was an adult) and she is still alive and kicking ass, she's 87 yrs old. But I took a cigarette at 13 and fell very ill in the next months interestingly enough. I took that cigarette due to peer pressure I was forced to smoke a cigarette when I was 13-14 to either stay with the 'cool' kids or be one of the 'losers'. 'Fortunately' I fell pretty ill at the time and used that as an incentive to never smoke again or take drugs which was the next thing the 'cool' kids were going to do. And did. Thanks for listening to one of my most intense memories.
This thread has given me an idea. I might start a day to day account of giving up smoking. I have a pack of cigarettes. There is about 18 left in it, that will do me till Wednesday. It's gonna be my last pack. So if people are interested I can start a thread and post in it. Day by day accounts and see how far I can go without smoking and hopefully quite. It might give people an idea of what it's like to stop. I am gonna go cold turkey.
The chance you die from smoking is really small. You are reading the facts wrong. 90% of lung cancer is caused by smoking. Only a small percentage of smokers gets cancer tough. (Only 10% more then non smokers) An uncle of mine died from alcohol. He screwd over his liver by drinking but could still be saved if he quit drinking. He payed people to smuggle whiskey into the hospital for him and he died with a bottle next to him due to blood poisoning. Same thing with smoking, it increases the chance you will die from lung cancer a bit but its no way very lethal. I smoke about 1 package every 2 weeks (party smoker) and have some joints every now and then. I find that smoking promotes social contact and makes me very relaxed. Nothing better then smoking a cigarette on the balcony in the middle of the night. Also its a great reason to get alone with a girl while at a party or bar :). Stop whining and toughen up a bit.
How is it when they have absoloutely no basis for comparison? Ex Smokers are the best qualified for that, trouble is, most ex smokers are even more self righeous twats than regular anti smoker people.
You don't need to have experience of a contrary situation to enjoy your current one's benefits and be aware of them. You don't need to have been poor to be aware that as a rich person you can buy all kinds of stuff. Basis for comparison does not come only from personal experience.
I know this has been stated before, but this guy is a troll. Has anyone clicked the source? This discussion is good but this guy just got away with making all of you believe this story.
If you feel sick for months after smoking a cigarette something is horribly wrong with you.
And there was a problem with me, I won't tell what it was but luckily for me, I got enough uncommon, common sense at 13 to not continue smoking and that probably saved me from suffering worse consequences. Basically if you want to smoke, do it. I'm not stopping you. But if you don't feel really well don't try to solve it by drinking alcohol or taking drugs /smoking etc. That's the point I was trying to get across. In addition to that, f you feel like a beast then go ahead and blast yourself with alcohol or whatever. Smoke, take drugs and do all sorts of things that make you happy. Just don't do it because your friends do it. (2nd point I tried to make but failed)
Interesting read, gave me something to think about..
Pathos isn't a good argument. Could people really care about losing 10 years off their life?

Should be pretty interesting.
My mom has cancer, I hope she will be ok.
Both of my parents smoke rather heavily. They're both older than this fellow. My mom's mother died from lung cancer from smoking; my dad's mother now looks awful due to all the years of smoking. They've quit many times but gone back behind my back. You think they'd get the message. I understand how hard it is to quit, but I wish they would say "We're not ready" or "We won't" than saying they are and then going behind my back to smoke. I've dealt with this for many years though. I'm worried one of them will be dead before I finish college, which I'm not even in yet. Shit sux. also my sympathies to the above poster due to his mother's cancer
It is, unless you are dumb and have no self-control.
Or if you're a basement dweller who never picked up a cigarette and thinks he knows what self-control is.
Or if you're a basement dweller who never picked up a cigarette and thinks he knows what self-control is.
I agree. It's not like you want to smoke when you're quitting, you HAVE to. It's an overpowering compulsion to satisfy the nicotine dependence. Ever heard of withdrawal pains while quitting hard drugs? If I'm correct, that would mean nicotine withdrawal works on the same principle, just somewhat milder. Hell, some people get headaches if they don't have coffee after drinking it for so long.
All my friends smoke and the only reason that it bothers me is sheer lack of courtesy. It's an addiction, and I'm sure most of them don't want to continue doing it, but they don't have to blow it in my face (which some of them have directly done), and don't have to do it near me. I don't feel like getting my lungs deteriorated from second hand smoke. Not all smokers are like this, and I appreciate people who use courtesy when they smoke, but it seems like a lot of people don't.
I[m not an arse about it, I mean I don't go blowing smoke into everyones faces as they pass. Infact most smokers who aren't douches make a consious effort to avoid getting smoke in peoples 'personal space', but it takes effort on their part by not passing directly beside you (then complaining the cocks)
I fucking hate this negative stigma towards smokers. Those people, they think it's like turning off and on a switch to stop and start smoking.
I've smoked a few times and stopped instantyly, you battys who get caught on it have no control
People who smoke aren't retarded. They know the dangers. This is like banning cars because you can crash them.
Uh no cars are a necessity in our society, cigarettes are not. My grandpa died in this exact same way. He was literally a skeleton with skin on it by the end, curled in a fetal position, unable to leave his bed for more than an hour, barely able to groan in pain because he was so weak, unrecognizable to any family members who hadn't seen him in a while.
I ended up looking like this: am I healthy ?
@ RayvenQ, I bet your birth defect was from your mother smoking. Smoking while pregnant really fucks up your baby. Personally I'm glad that people smoke because it's something I can see to decide whether someone understands the bigger picture. People who live in the moment never amount to much.
lets all take a picture next to Daddy

why should I care about how people I dont know fuck up their bodies out of their own choice?
Cool guilt trip, brah.
Smoking feels good in your throath. I did smoke once when my friends were all like "OMG D00D TRY DIS!".
All these people talking about banning smoking better be joking. There's this thing called liberty and freedom, right. The freedom to put whatever you want into your own body. Even if it kills you.
I've smoked a few times and stopped instantyly, you battys who get caught on it have no control
Smoking a "few times" won't get you addicted. You need to be a chronic user in the first place.
Oh my god i am so sorry people fall for advertising and decide to smoke oh my god you all should be hiveminded and have no choice in life on what you do!
It's likely i'll die before I reach 30 and not from smoking. So fuck you i'm gonna go light a cig.
I never kiss smokers.
/agree If I see a woman smoking or smelling of fag smoke, it's an instant turn off. Fag smoke smells fuckin' disgusting and gives me a headache. I don't care what people want to do to themselves, as long as they don't interfere with me while doing it.
Sooner than what, an Iraqi suicide bomber?
What? an Iraqi suicide bomber is suddenly going to rush into your house and blow himself up along with you? Theres more probabilities of dying of a racoon attack...
