They know the dangers.
This is like banning cars because you can crash them.
That's a terrible analogy, you should be embarrassed.

Except crashing isn't an inherit feature of cars.
Sure, they know the dangers. For some reason a lot of smokers just don't seem to realise exactly how serious the dangers are.
I will continue to smoke Hookah no matter what. I don't give a rats ass about who dies and what they leave behind.
A lot of little kids sucking McGruff's dick in this thread.
Both of my parents smoke rather heavily. They're both older than this fellow. My mom's mother died from lung cancer from smoking; my dad's mother now looks awful due to all the years of smoking. They've quit many times but gone back behind my back. You think they'd get the message. I understand how hard it is to quit, but I wish they would say "We're not ready" or "We won't" than saying they are and then going behind my back to smoke.
I've dealt with this for many years though. I'm worried one of them will be dead before I finish college, which I'm not even in yet. Shit sux.
also my sympathies to the above poster due to his mother's cancer
I feel for you man. It's very depressing knowing that a lot of great people that I care about have no to little desire to stop gradually killing themselves.

Yep that's what's going on. You are spot on.
My Grandmum died from lug cancer, due to smoking.
You know where I stand.
that guy died lmao
All these people talking about banning smoking better be joking. There's this thing called liberty and freedom, right. The freedom to put whatever you want into your own body. Even if it kills you.
You know that when you smoke, you slowly kill people around you too?
Thanks a lot.
K.

By the way, I am aware it will kill me. And honestly, I don't care. I don't really want to see the future anyways, and when shit hits the fan and I become that guy, I will preform a little .45 caliber euthanasia.
Oh no that guy worries about smokers because they are doing damage to themselves fuck him i'll do whatever I want because its my body
Hey, you guys aren't as annoying as stoners. So there's something.
I started smoking at the age 18 (legal age where I live by the way), going to have at LEAST five years on him :D
Besides.
I'll do what I fucking want. When I want. Why do I have to quit because OMMA GOD IMMA DIE!?
You don't think I know that and all the other health problems? Why do idiots consider it their civic duty to continue to force feed people this type of shit? Pisses me right the fuck off

Force feed? You willingly came into this thread with the very obvious title. He never said stop anyway, it's a sad story about a guy who died of cancer. Stop being dramatic. Go have a smoke for fucks sake.

Not everyone lives in a liberal and free country to start with.
Anyway it's more to do with them being inconsiderate and blowing it in people's faces. It is harmful to others when in small spaces (eg; a pub) so there are decent reasons behind people wanting it banned.
You won't get cancer from second-hand smoke unless you pretty much inhale the smoke straight out of their mouth. Its already a low statistic for the number of people who get cancer from smoking, that number is dramatically lower for second-hand smoke. Even in an elevator or a closet, your chances are dramatically lower. If you are asthmatic, there are more complications than just the smoke causing your breathing troubles. Does it help? No, but neither does the exhaust off vehicles, nor any situation where the normal levels of oxygen are depleted.
I'm not a smoker. I've never had one puff off a cigarette. I've never had a sip of alcohol, nor one toke off a joint. I never want to do any of those. Yet I fully believe an individual has every right to determine what they put in their body. Be it drugs, alcohol, "unhealthy" foods, sodas, or nicotine. Do not tell me what is best for me, or what I should do with my body. Alcohol consumption has a higher risk of injuring those around you. Cigarettes aren't going to impair your focus. You are many more times as likely to kill someone in a car accident as a result of alcohol consumption than from smoking a cigarette while driving. You are many more times as likely to kill someone in a car accident as a result of alcohol consumption than smoking a cigarette next in an crowded elevator.
None of you have the right to tell me or anyone else what to do with my body, my money, and my time. If you want to try and dictate how someone should live their life, fuck off and die.

You should be allowed to do whatever you like to your body, but if that something infringes on the rights of others then it's not okay. The chances of you dying from other factors is also irrelevant, the less the better!
@ RayvenQ, I bet your birth defect was from your mother smoking. Smoking while pregnant really fucks up your baby.
Actually no, my mother doesn't smoke. Neither does my father, infact neither of them have smoked. Nice how you make the assumption though. Though I don't disagree that it's bad, which is why I do my bets to avoid pregant women and small children when out on the street and will not smoke in someones house, even if they allow me, if there's a child or someone pregnant there.
It's from being born 2 months early, along with the fact that before I was born, it appeared that I was going to be born with Spinabiffida or cystic fibrosis.
Rayven, hypothetically, and hopefully non-offensively, if your condition was cured would you quit smoking? Or attempt to quit?
hypothetically maybe.
As for offence, hell, I take the piss out of my own condition all the time, so I'm hardly likely to get offended, afterall, what else am I gonna do if I can't find a laugh from it, sit and whine about it till the end?
Maybe that's why some of my views, particularly about death, are somewhat distorted.
