Well I'll have you know that my Blazer is rocking a Jimmy third brake light.
Take that. :weeb:
Meh, Nissan built the 3rd brake light into my spoiler :).
Oh, and that reminds me - 84-85 had a Styrofoam spoiler that loves to trap water and start rusting out. 86+ is a lot less likely to rust there.
Anyone have a 90's-98ish Suburban here?
I swear My front heater is luke warm, but my rear heater is like non existent.
And I can only find heater hoses going to the front heater core....
;_; I hate when I hit a bump and my knobs for my Climate Control fall off. Curse you small children that were in this vehicle before my dad bought it and pulled off the switches and me not wanting to permanently glue them on.
let me guess, most of the back lights to the climate controls are out too
Something else neat...Nissan dissolved the Datsun name in 1984. You'll find the hatch on every 1984 Z31 has both a Nissan and Datsun badge. You'll also find that 84-85 models have a rubber "accordion" style shift boot, where as 86-89 have a "normal" leather one.

STOP BREAKING MY AUTO MERGE I'M HELPING
[editline]8th November 2015[/editline]
Also the first picture, the night one, in my digital dash album makes it seem like it's hard to read anything but the huge green text at night. I assure you that a dash in good condition is perfectly easy to read, it's the camera that failed to pick up the text as well.
That budget would most likely get you a decent Z, but don't spend it all on the car! It's 30 and will need SOMETHING replaced, regardless of its condition.
The thing that sucked about maintenance in the beginning was the goddamn clutch fan blocks the entire front of the motor. Once that fan is gone you have so much more room to work on things there.
The voice never gets wonky on these. They are a digital module, not analog, so the only time they stop working is when the module itself breaks - which isn't common. The usual culprit is someone replacing the awesome stereos (relative term, but awesome for their time, and as someone who doesn't need audio equipment worth more than the entire car in my trunk, does the job damn fine) and unhooking Betty.
As for the dashboards, their killer is almost always the power supply or the solder joints on the dash itself. Fixable, for sure, but it takes time. If you drive a digital dash model and ANY part of it is not working (note: the gallon readout only starts working when there's 2 bars of fuel, or 5 gallons) it's an indicator that the power supply may be going out. Smacking the unit (it's housed in the kick panel by your right leg) will usually get it back on, at least for a bit. Expect to replace or repair the power supply. Power supply isn't such a big deal, replacing the entire dash itself is.
The engines are almost identical for the entire lineup, minus the differences in 84 and 85-89 for turbos. Aside from that, parts are mostly interchangeable. The other biggest issue with doing maintenance on these is that Nissan kinda threw everything on top of everything else. It could be worse, but it could be a lot better. You need a LOT of patience working on these.
Alrighty thanks dude! I just found one that's apparently in perfect condition with no rust and is only missing the stock tires for 3,500$ so I might end up getting it or waiting till the summer. Only downside is that it's in white when I'd prefer it to be in red but that's always fixable. Thanks for all the help!

Mind sharing a link?
Repainting cars is a real PITA, I always recommend against changing colors. I've had basically every piece of trim off the interior of mine, and that basically sealed the deal for me that I'd never change it from bright red.........
Anyway, seriously do not hesitate to ask me if you have any more questions. PM is best - I don't follow this thread often. It's chance that I happened to stumble upon your post tonight. People who aren't into these cars tend to sling shit (ESPECIALLY at these cars) when they haven't even owned one, much less worked on anything with a VG30E. Enthusiast groups are obviously a little biased too but I'll try to give you the straightest possible answer to any questions you have (enthusiast groups tend to negate everything in order to convince you to join them lol)

There was once a mustang and an F-150 who fell deeply in love. They were totally different vehicles (and also kinda cousins), so they knew nobody would accept their love. Truly star crossed lovers. After months of sneaking out late at night to park down on lover's lane, the mustang became pregnant. They were both afraid that their parents would find out and arrange an abortion, so the mustang ran away for 9 months in 1997. When she came back, with the newborn car, she didnt tell anyone who the father was, and nobody really thought too much about it, because everyone knew mustang sally was a little skank. Luckily, the child took after its mother physically, and its truck bed was small enough that it could be concealed by a large trunk. The F-150 more or less broke off all contact with the mustang, and went on to become very popular, although not that interesting. Big daddy Ford, wise in his years, knew what mustang and F-150 had done, but wouldnt disgrace his grandchildren by making the affair known, so he named the child after poor deceased aunt LTD Victoria, but still harbored spite for the inbred abomination, so he sold it off into a life of backbreaking police and taxi work. Luckily, the crown victoria had the work ethic of its father, so it put all its effort into its work, and eventually prospered from the life of blue collar working class american. All in all, it retired fairly young, quietly being forced into retirement in early 2011. Some suspect foul play, but most believe the crown vic just never had the genes to last much more than a decade, since big daddy ford only made slight improvements occasionally, never giving the crown vic a major redesign. It currently enjoys its modest retirement with hobbies including road trips and stamp collecting.

Confirmed with a noid light and it's flashing?
Jesus how frustrating. Before you pull the fuel rail unplug the 2 'bad' ones and unplug a couple 'good' ones and meter the 2 pins for ohms. Obviously they should all meter the same (fairly close). If the 2 non-firing ones are way off, then they're def bad.
Do you have any extra 'good' ones laying around? If you do, plug one into the 4/5 harness and feel/listen to it holding it in your hand while the car's running the verify that it's firing.
Lol and like BananaLord said.. painting a car for color change basically means you get to learn how to take the entire car apart! Yahoo. Since that one's white you could probably leave the engine bay, depending on what color you'd want to paint it (obviously black would clash), but other than that the door jambs and trunk jamb get pretty involved to ensure a good paintjob. It's not for the faint of heart, or for people with not much freetime.
If you want it to turn out nicely you need to get a decent bit of practice in spraying clear before you shoot the clear on the car itself (paint a garbage can or two to get the 'feel' for how to lay it out), and you need a fairly clean workspace to spray unless you want to be sanding tons of dirt out of your clearcoat and then buffing it back to shine. Fun and rewarding, but my god the time it consumes..

Can confirm respraying a car by yourself with no experience is a PITA. Doing a colour change at least semi-right is even more so (basically taking off the doors, boot and bonnet and maybe the engine bay)
I do know of spray shops where I live doing decent resprays for 1000 dollarroos (700 usd?). Like they'll use good paint and good enough prep work to let the paint bite properly, they just wont smooth out dents or fix rust etc
Also If you do decide to paint it, do lots of research, talk to clutch (he helped me) and definitely use 2pack paint, Not acrylic. It'll last longer and look nice straight away (if done right).
and if you're wondering my respray turned out better than I had hoped for. It isn't perfect but I'd be lying if I said it was shit for a one-man (with no prior experience) job... in a mock up spray booth too

My first car was a Z31 and I recommend against it. They're slow, have sloppy suspension, little to no aftermarket part community, and finding a clean parts car is nigh impossible. Engine bay is cramped and difficult to work in, and electrical issues are fairly common. I'd spend your cash elsewhere, unless you have an alternate, reliable form of transportation.

Im gonna be doing a little painting hopefully this weekend, i gotta sand out the rust around the fenders and a few spots under the doors, then por, epoxy primer, and gloss black. Its mostly surface rust and theres only one spot where its starting to pit, so i wanna catch it early, before another 6 month salt and slush bath. Also sometime i have to replace part of the floor pan and replace some heat shielding, but thats gonna be a bit of a pita, so im gonna put that off a while longer.

Replace z31 with ma60 and you've pretty much described owning a mk2 supra. Engine bay is roomier because I6 though
If I were to get a Z31, I'd just import a 200ZR or something that's not in shit condition. The RB20 while being old, slow and hard to find parts for seems like a better deal while being RHD and have 1/5th the miles any cars in the states would have.
I went to my local auto parts and tools place and they didn't have any noid lights in stock, so I was SOL.
But...
I fixed it: for some reason simply fucking pulling them out and putting them back in again has them working just fine. There was a lot of fuel backed up behind the ones that weren't firing, but they are ticking away just fine now... I did what slayer suggested and moved injector 6 to cylinder 4, inj.5 to cyl.6, and inj.4 to cyl.5. Voila, ticking like a clock on all 6. Thank god.
To test the cables I just plugged the supposedly bad cables into a confirmed working injector, and by doing so I verified that the cables were not the issue as they powered on the injector with no issues. I also replaced some of my injector clips as they were a little rough (but that was after I confirmed the cables themselves worked).
So anyways, it's fixed at the moment, hopefully it will stay fixed. I don't really know why they didn't work in the first place but they work now, so yeah. Thanks again for your help though guys, nice to get quick help on here :D
+ I'm good at changing injectors now...
One thing I've learned as a mechanic needing to get by on minimal tools/makes tools for the job, is that almost anything can be a tool if your imagination is running away.
Such as this:[t]https://d114hh0cykhyb0.cloudfront.net/images/uploads/wled-x5-store0.jpg[/t]
Just attach the leads (pos to pos neg to neg on those that are polarity sensitive) and it'll do the same job as an injector test light.
You can also use a normal 194 wedge base bulb, but those are rated minimum of 12v and some injectors fire as low as 5v making it extra hard to tell if it's actually firing or not.
speaking of winter wheels these are going on the e46 shortly
