1600 for a 99 in that good of condition with only 170000 California miles on it? Thats robbery. Suppose its Cali so things are normally going to be in order because inspections.
If you can afford to drive it, you now have a vehicle that you can hang on to until its worth is less than the tank of gas you put in it.
Wow Serj, that's an amazing deal! It's in a beautiful color, too.
Ah to live below the rust belt.
Keep an eye out for the infinity system to rot out the speakers real bad. They do around here anyways, but they rattle real bad when that happens. I would assume a cali truck would do it just as bad. But that's nothing major.
Those damn trucks can get the hell beat out of them and just keep going. Seen some real gems around here. One in that condition is awesome.
Hey guys, couple questions for you.
I drive a 09' G37x. It's officially my dad's car, but I was thinking he might let me start modding it once I turn 18.
My dad is the kind of guy who isn't really about modding cars, but is he a car guy, and has for the most part raised me to be one too.
First really, are G37x's a decent start to modding? I'd read some good stuff about them and I've always been interested in maybe learning to drift it. Kentucky has a shit ton of awesome back roads that are pretty much always empty.
Second, do you think it would be possible to convince my dad to hand ownership over to me for the most part once I turn 18? Or something atleast like allowing him to let me mod it. September 29th marks my first full year with the car so I have a decent knowledge of it.
Also, my friend who works at Valvoline ended up getting one as well, slightly newer but he could probably help me convince my dad.
Anyway, have a pic.

Hell yeah Intense Blue Pearl! Same color as the truck I'm looking to buy, really nice color. Truck looks mint too.
Can you guys spam the shit outta this link to vote for my dad (green barracuda, matchup 4)

I figured it was a good deal since I been hunting around for one for a while. It just took forever to get them to let me come buy it. I had a 5 min testdrive before I knew to just shove the money at him and take itt.

depends on what you mean by 'modding'. do you want to change the way it looks? or add power?
there's not much you can do to add power when you want to stay NA. if you want to go forced induction youre looking at like 5k for just the kit, assuming you do the install yourself. that doesn't include the cost of building the motor or transmission, both of which will likely explode if you don't do anything to them.
also please don't go drifting in that car. it's awd, automatic, and doesn't have locking diffs. if you're looking to learn how to drift in your back roads it's pretty much guaranteed you're going to end up in a ditch.
Pretty much any modern luxury car is a godawful place to start learning how to work on cars.

G37x means AWD, you're not drifting shit in that.
Although I know nothing about the G37x in specific, the G35/G37 is technically the Skyline everywhere else in which the AWD is quite good and not simply there for safety or something.
Now, if you focus on modding it to actually suit what the car is you can drastically improve the car. Wheels, tires and brakes are usually a really good starting point. Get a nice wheel and tire for it and then do a fresh brake job with a quality pad like a lower end StopTech and some decent quality blank rotors. Rockauto sells both of those for absolutely dirt cheap, buying the same StopTech(Centric Stoptech) pads on like Summit means you pay twice as much even.
The next modification you should be focusing on is yourself although this over a long period of time. You're a new driver, ou need to get a few tens of thousands of miles behind the wheel to really start to get down driving. This will come with time though and while going though this phase you'll most likely replace early modifications you did to your car maybe even a few times over.
Now what you need to do is really focus on how you modifying your car makes it better, it's very easy to ruin a car. You have a automatic, AWD luxury sedan with the motor of a 370z. It's not going to drift, it's not going to win at the quarter mile and it's too new and too nice to slam to the ground and go for aesthetics. So what I would recommend is to focus on improving the actual performance of the car.
You can do things like an exhaust, although I'd recommend to prioritize quietness/low NVH when messing with it. Putting some sort of air intake on it would most likely wake up the sound of the intake and maybe even free up a little power since it's quite possible the stock intake is tuned specificly to be quiet over everything else. Neither of these things will really net you that much as far as gains to money though despite what most people tell you, getting the car tuned by a professional however after doing those will.
Suspension would be where this car will most likely be transformed, stuffing some stiffer swaybars under it and getting a good spring with a high quality shock(no OEM replacement garbage) should really wake up the chassis as it seems like most complaints in reviews about the car are that it's too soft, loose and cushy. I would really recommend to stay away from poly bushings in any load bearing bushing, poly bushings are an extreme wear item and are designed to be replaced often. They have no real place on a street car in any place that has multi directional load. Shifters and other non load items are excellent for poly on any car though.
Good suspension isn't cheap though, you really get what you pay for.

The G35/G37 are also known as a Nissan Skyline, while they're a big heavy luxury car compared to the "real skylines" they still have very good aftermarket and are pretty decent platforms if you want something "nicer" and more in the class of a BMW.
if i wanted to put a radio in a 2001 mercury sable, how would I go about doing it? i'm asking because it seems like its a lot more tougher than it should be, especially since it doesn't look like its gonna work with the standard 2001 taurus/metra/sable dash kit that you can get.
heres what it looks like in my sable (excuse the shitty picture, had my dad take it as the car is not in my hands yet)

Hate to join this Infinity thing..... But leave the damn car alone. Put some "nice" wheels on it, it will have a perfect "gap" without lowering it. Leave the suspension alone. Don't be a idiot with it. Its one of the most interesting luxury 370z performance wise cars you can get. The only other people that get it like those are cadillac.
stuff
Intake is good as is. FFS its a dual MAF and dual filter design.
Exhaust Yes. Sounds like a fucken honda element. Until you reach 5k rpms.
Suspension No. The G35 my friend has has one of the stiffest luxury vehicle suspensions in the world.By far the best in my opinion for OEM. Leave it alone.

You would need this piece of shit;

Then it's 'easy' past that.

My brother is thinking about trading his eclipse. I don't know if he should do it or even if the guy would bite
I bet it's significantly more reliable :v:

I kinda want an Edsel now.

edsels are weird they don't really have a place in the ford/merc/lincoln lineup and they have vaginas on them

Horse collar.
Theyre cheap in most cases and really expensive to get parts for. Youd be well off finding 3 edsels and combining to make one good one.

Usually for a pocket, or you can break the center bar and out a double din stereo in. Theyre really not that complex... pretty much just matching colors if you have the right harness. Dont cut any wires. Also the whole not having the vehicle in your hands yet kinda concerns me on how and why you would add a radio.
I wish I was more car savvy, I have no idea about anything when it comes to this stuff :v:

Getting there.
Ended up having to get two new calipers for the front because the rubbers were all fucked and leaking, and my brake pads disintegrated anyway so I replaced those too.
We got two of the four struts done as well as the fogs (almost, have to run one more wire) and the horns.
Tonight, I get to button it all up and finish the struts and schedule an alignment for Wednesday!
I'm actually about to leave work to head over to my friend's garage so hopefully it goes well.
[editline]16th November 2015[/editline]
Also I actually like it much better when it had the license plate on. I just removed it so I could do some touch up paint to the bumper.

Its just for future reference. I'm picking it up in a week and a half and it was just something I was thinking about. Probably not even going to install one for a few months anyways.

Its a nice car, but its worth a bit less in my opinion. I'd say it's about 3000usd tops. The lim-slip-diff is really nice though.

I've had to replace 6 calipers on my Integra in the 60k miles I've had it. although 2 of those were because I'm stupid and bought "rebuild kits" for the fronts and decided I could manage. Could have cried after a couple hours of trying to put a piston into a caliper. Fuck brakes.
Also god damn, hard to believe it'll be 60k miles and 6 years here in March.
Civic is also finally coming together, after Mevotech fucked me by packaging two wrong parts I've got a Dorman on order 2 day shipping which will hopefully be boxed correctly.
Gonna get some fresh bearings and balljoints pressed into my spindles here in the next hour, just motor mounts and rack bushings left in the front end and it'll all be new aside from the motor/trans!
Fuckin hell is there any point buying a car that you can do up at 17/18 years old because insurance is mad or do you think a classic car would still be OK to insure? Got to have that fucking black box put in my car when I've passed
Are there any cheap jap cars that are good for modding I'm talking really cheap though like around £1000
