If there's that many spiders it probably should be burned down.
Here's a pic of the turbo's 'oil leak' or whatever's going on with it.

The exhaust side is the top part. The oil return line is near the bottom, and the intake compressor side of not pictured (below picture). As you see, there's like a weird wet spot on the outlet portion of the exhaust side housing.. and the wet part starts right in the middle of where it's wet right now.. and grows. So weird. Ah well.
I'm going to shoot myself. Seriously.
The Talon is back to it's old tricks today. We washed the engine bay to get rid of ATF all over from yesterday. And then drove it a little, just to see how it was shifting/ etc after running empty yesterday. That all seemed in order.
But then we got home to inspect everything and underneat was fucking COVERED in engine oil. That's new, it's been dry up until now. But NO.
So, I cleaned everything off with brake clean. Then idled it and watch a big wet spot slowly "appear" on the exhaust side of the turbo.. housing.
Looking at the bottom of the turbo I watch it start from dry, then slowly grow larger until it's dripping, right about where this red circle is is where it starts;

The return line also appears to be leaking, with a new gasket. So that's cool. I'm going to replace that gasket then see what happens. I don't have any clue wtf is going on with that weird leak on the turbo. It's like it's leeching through the housing.. but there's no oil on the opposite side of where it start, only a turbine and exhaust gasses. Dear lord why.
Its the oil feed line dripping. Guaranteed. I thought my turbo was just randomly spewing oil on top of the housing too.
Excellent. I hope the new gasket I popped on there is going to take care of it.
I also had a really good read here;
http://www.evolutionm.net/forums/evo-general/302500-headers-glowing-bright-red.html
The tubular header / somewhat hot side of the turbo DO glow after just some fairly basic driving / only a couple minutes at 65. AND the Talon's got a swapped cam/crank sensor that IS adjustable.. so the idea that the timing may be retarded isn't out of the real of possibilities. I'm going to check that out, next. I don't know how it would've gotten changed.. but it's possible.
i'm not sure if this is a place for discussing regular car reviews, but i just watched him on periscope and i melted after he mentioned my name.
all i did was taking a peak
Are you positive it's not a spider rear gear?
aaaaaaaaaaaaagh
How many spiders are there on a vehicle to nail it down remotely to see if its even worth calling the guy over just for the long block, trans and basic spare parts.
Too many, shoot an AT4 at it
Well, I had fun today. I got to build a Haynes Model ICE:
Got the lower head on: [t]http://i.imgur.com/SYgbe7N.jpg[/t]
And the finished engine: [t]http://i.imgur.com/4VQ4s3j.jpg[/t]
It's a 4-cylinder with a single OVH cam (technically it's got two shafts, one for the cams and one for the valve actuators), two valves per cylinder. Water-cooled, with a fan driven off the crank, got a timing belt as well. It's powered by a 3V electric motor, running off two AA-batteries, which also power 4 LEDs that simulate the combustion in the cylinders. Video of it running:

Shortly after though, my desk mate decided to short out the battery pack/controller by sticking a screwdriver in it, so we hooked up a bench supply to the motor.
He then gave it 24V and fried the motor, at which point we decided to try to power it with a much bigger 12V water pump, which he just ended up using as a dremel/drill and make holes in the engine block...
Oh well, it was fun to build.
i remember getting one of those many years ago
Those things are dope!!
I got the Talon's lack of power figured. It WAS retarded timing. The previous owner swapped to an adjustable crank/cam sensor.. and it has been retarded since the day we bought the car. I advanced it about 5* and it's a whole new animal. Insanity.
I think that might be what fucked up all the turbo's gaskets, too. Super high exhaust temps from burning fuel in the exhaust itself... toasting the exhaust gaskets, making the oil return line gasket brittle, etc. We'll see. Feeling a bit better now.
Oh, I dun goofed now.
So it dropped to -10 and I still has summer washer fluid in the tank that froze up. I had to remove the tank, thaw it out, reinstall the emptied tank and refill it with winter fluid. I neglected to notice that my hood latch had frozen as well.
No issues going down the road but the moment I hit the highway and went over 80 the latch unhooked completely and flew up in my face. Albertan driver behind me was pissed off I pulled into the grass median. Fuck you too this was an emergency.
Damage report:
-Hood dented but supporting structure not twisted.
-Drivers hinge intact.
-Passengers hinge separated at the hinge bolt. Currently rebuilding.
-All 10 plastic retainers for the grille under the windshield have blown out. Replacements on hand.
-Windshield did not catastrophically crack. The lone fucking crack originates from a rock bulls-eye that happened three years ago and it's still driveable but it will now need to be replaced or the car can't be insured come September.
I could totally rebuild the hood if I wanted to but it was already delaminating and a wrecker a town over supposedly has a color matched one available so I'll finish working on the hinge tonight and get the hood reinstalled tomorrow.
I have a tank of deicing washer fluid in year round. It still gets bug guts and bird shit off my windshield

don't you drive a geo tracker? how did you manage to get that thing to 80?
Started the rear end swap and clutch replacement on the Miata. This is going to be fun...

Still, how did he manage it?

He's in Canada, probably 80km/h.

Anyways, the hinge is repaired and the damaged panels are reinstalled. The yard says a replacement hood is available and I'll have everything back together save for the windshield by tomorrow afternoon.

Nah, open 4.3 from a '99.
I've start replacing the suspenion bushings, shocks and springs on the Skyline. Now it looks like I'll have to add brake hoses and front brake pads to the list.

80 kph is still hauling ass in a tracker
In a fight to get Chrysler Started, put the battery on charger at work full day I got 1/2 a turn of the crank Canadian tire brand batteries are so hit and miss sometimes they last years others DOA.
Still for battery reliance my Focus had the original factory battery worked perfectly until it finally bit the dust.12 years of service.
Anyone here used ValuePower batteries?
My truck requires two 75 550cca's minimum, which is nearly $150-200 in most brands.
In ValuePower, I can get two 75's for around $100, two 78 700's for a little more.
One year warrenties, too.
I'd like to do the 78's, then upgrade from my 70A alternator to maybe a 90A or so.
valuepower makes everstart look like optima
So chaps.
I have a question for you. I have a Kenwood Stereo (one that i bought from a shop with a USB slow, AUX, CD Player etcc....) And its been all good and fine.
Although SOMETIMES, mostly when i just start the car up, the stereo turns on and everything, but theres no sound coming out from the speakers. I change from USB to Radio, still nothing, Change to AUX to my phone, nothing, change to CD, still nothing. So i keep my USB on play, it shows that time is going on the track but no sound....
Then randomly during my course from driving A to B it will randomly start playing the music mid-song. Now i thought when this first happened, there was a dodgy cable and i went over a bump or something and knocked it in place again, but this has happened several times and more frequently now. I go over no bumps and it'll just randomly start playing again whenever it decides it wants too.
I tried giving it a hit and a smack a few times to see if it is a cable when its running but no sound is going and it doesn't do anything. It just turns the sound on whenever it wants. From what i can tell, there is no problems with the actual stereo.
Any clues? This happened to anybody else before?

What terrible Tracker have you driven? I regularly do 120 over the Coq to Vancouver.

Did you try warming the engine up before you took out the tank? I've had mine frozen (completely forgot about it when the cold hit), but when the engine got up to temp, it started thawing.
anybody here wanna give me recommendations for a new clutch for my truck? I was looking at a mcleod super street pro or street extreme but I want some opinions before I bite the bullet. My truck is an '85 F150 XLT with a 351 backed by a TKO-500 with the following
coast high 408 Pro Street stroker kit (forged 4340 crank, flat top pistons and H-beams) bored 30 over
Edelbrock vic jr intake
port matched AFR 205 69cc heads
holley HP 850 carb
comp XR280R cam Endure-X lifters magnum rockers and High energy pushrods
hooker comp headers
I have no idea what the actual HP/TQ numbers are I've never had it dynoed but it's definitely running upwards of 450+ HP
Fuck man that sounds like a rad truck!
As for clutch selection, google is your best help, the only thing I know about clutches is the in cummins trucks its dual disc or bust.

My engine compartment doesn't get warm enough. Usually when it freezes up I already have winder fluid on hand and after half a day the de-icer has slushed it up and I can purge the tank. Totally caught me off guard this year.
