This is kind of what I've always thought. You don't need to throw tons of money at a car to make it fast.

you dont need a quarter of a million like some people think, but a turbo ls in a Colorado is still going to be 10 grand minimum. I've seen 400 horses from the 5 cylinder a Colorado comes with, don't know why he felt the need to swap that grimy ls in there

When he announced that was turboing the truck I was excited because I thought he meant he was going to dump boost all over that stock POS. Putting the LS in there is an "easy" way to make power. That's been done, it's not exciting.

Not max acceleration by any means, just pushed it enough to make some noise. I love me a good 350 sound.

the only good news is it still drives and the truck i rearended was unscratched and won't be calling any insurance
[QUOTE=Valon Kyre;49270645]You'll be hard pressed to find a notchback shell as clean as that one for a good price, especially in a V8. If you got it in an I4 (like this one was) I think I was in it for under $3000? The engine and trans was $700 and I scrapped and parted the boat I pulled it from for $350. All the parts said and done for the engine rebuild (cam, valve springs, gasket kit, intake and carb) was $600, I ported the heads and exhaust manifolds myself, going off similar builds it should have made an easy 400-450hp. You can also sell the old I4 and trans to recoupe some of the cost. The driveshaft had to be shortened and the rear was "lincoln locker'd", god forbid the car ever hooked up the tires it would snap the I4 rear like a twig.
As for actually swapping the engine and trans in, the motor mounts were made with two plates and a piece of pipe per side, the trans bolted right to the stock crossmember, stock throttle linkage worked, wiring was simple, It needed a radiator but I never got around to putting in a proper one. It was TIGHT, but it looked like it came factory with the 460. The stock I4 front springs worked great too. You'll need the oil pan off a 460 truck.
Uhhh, drivers exhaust manifold was stock off a 460 truck or car (same I think), the passenger side was off a 351c that for some reason worked fine with a 351c gasket, 460 gasket, and copper rtv, never leaked. It was either that or $1000 on swap headers or whatever that would cost.

This is pure madness and that's why I love it!
I'd be happy with a 305 or a 350 but a god damn 460?
As in Swedish "Kan man så ska man" Translating to "if you could, you should"
That's my spirit on my Volvo 740. But I still use the standard engine, but rebuilt everything and learning from a old man that I know who built rallycars in the 70's and 80's, It's my long term build and tuning project!
Right now tho I'm deciding if i should put some computercontrolled stuff in it, or make it carb'd.
I do love the sound of twin carbs tho...

This quarter million mile battleship is going to be auctioned off at 10 AM on Thursday in Maine, it's 5 hours away from home but I might be able to have a friend flat bed it in exchange for watching his cats when he goes RVing for Christmas. I'll find out what charity the proceeds go to tomorrow, but what are your thoughts?
The glowplugs were changed at 246k and it supposedly runs and drives.
I'm buying it just to blow up and cannibalize parts off of for mine...
Today under the knife.. a Ford Taurus wagon. Purchased for $200. 88,000 miles and a new (brand new) engine was put in in 2012. It got hit in the passenger side and my buddy picked it up since the owner didn't want to deal with it.
It needed;
-door
-fender
-headlight
-window motor swapped in the new door
-bumper cover
-control arm
-axle shaft
With some good luck we found a Sable the same color in the boneyard. No paint necessary. Just hung all the shit and called it a day. The frame must've been pushed just a tiny bit, 1-2mm, when it was just because the door gap is almost zero at the back of the new door and just slightly larger than it should be on the front. Not worth getting the frame pulled, though.
The rockers were rusty and both balljoints were a nightmare to get to pop. Axle shaft one the driver's side also got a new seal, which sucked ass to get started for some reason. The bent control arm on the passenger side was also a pain in the ass because the bend put a lot of tension on the whole thing. It came though. She always comes.
Not bad for $500 total investment! The only victim was my back, which I blew out. However as long as you keep moving it's crazy how resilient that stuff can be. Tomorrow I'm gonna feel it though, I can tell.
6 hours for all that shit. My buddy had already hung the front bumper;

Well at least it's all just cosmetic, get a replacement radiator bar and pull out the light support. Tweak your fender back into place, get some replacement corner lights since you needed them anyways and what not. You'll probably want a new radiator and to remove the hot air intake snorkel just in case since if you crack it you'll probably pop a headgasket.

My mom used to have one of those, I was fucking ecstatic the day I heard the timing belt went and grenaded the engine. I was finally rid of the retarded gremlin-infested purple turd.
Once, the main hose going from the radiator to the engine dissapeared. it either fell off or poofed out of existence. I was going on a test drive with my dad to find out what my mom meant by "some white smoke came out and it was running funny". We stopped and popped the hood, sure enough the fuckers gone and so is all the coolant. How does that even happen?

Carbs are fun and easy, but i'd go with some form of EFI because then that leaves open the option of throwing a turbo on it!
What does it have right now?

I'm sorry but carbs can be turbo'd too sally. You knows that. Go to your airplane hangar and fix the Dart till I tell you it's ok to come out of time out.

Box standard ESF Rex/regina injection system with modified original "volvo yello" injectors, homemade BTR.
Well, I'm a bit split on that, I don't like electronics in cars, And I'd perfer something that I can tinker with and smack with a hammer than sitting behind a computer trying to find decimals, but in return a bit more fuel efficient engine.
I'll pay the same price for the carbs, wire, and intake, as for the new fuelrail, injectors and EFI.
Hmm.
[editline]10th December 2015[/editline]
And I don't want a turbo. Maybe a supercharger from an MB, but no turbo!
My truck was broken into tonight at work. Broke open the tape holding my rear split window together to get in.
Stole my G1WH camera, two cords, but leftmy new $150 GPS.
Supposedly work will cover it, it's about $85 total in stolen things.
Nobel prize today in Stockholm. Working close to where the ceremony is at.
Been happening stuffs all day, but I got a nice picture of 10 BMW 750Li. So angry at the fifth car from the right, it did not park straight.

Some lady passes me every morning on my commute in one of these things, very well taken care of. She has vanity plates with her name on them so I'd like to imagine she's the original owner. Hopefully one of these days I can take a look at it.

Realized today that my change jar is missing. It was close to empty, only $3-4 left vs the $18-20 it normally has.
I'll check through some more and do an update to the police.
For now, I can't afford a new G1WH, or even the $50 G1W. Walmart now stocks the DVR207 for $30 to hold me over until work comes through.
What are your guys' thoughts on installing an alarm?
I thought I was fairly safe since it is an old beat up truck, but apparently not.
It looks like a 2-way Viper LCD alarm runs about $100. I don't need/ can't use remote start on my diesel, but have been wanting remote unlock.
Speaking of that; how in depth is an alarm install? I've done radio installs, speakers, etc. The unit I'm looking at is the Viper 3305V.
Ready to take on the snow! Got my apparently 15 year old hardly used snow tires that came with my Civic for the $450 which have been sitting in a corner untouched for 2 years since the day I bought it mounted.
Had to go to a kinda sketchy place to get them mounted since they are over 10 years old but it's not like I'm gonna put more than a couple hundred miles on them. Now I can go drive up in the mountains this weekend! Unfortunately one wheel is bent but oh well.

yeah so i don't even have an estimate on how much my car fix will cost, but i bought a new hood and light today (new as in pick-n-pull)
and i bought a set of panasports, which turned out to be fiat panasports, which is NOT 4x100 but rather 4x98... its fixable, but I didn't know they had a different ratio before I drove 3 hours out to santa rosa to get them...

r you gonna have them machined to fit or something?

I don't know much about actual fab/mod work but that looks like it's for increasing the diameter of a hole. In labbet's case the holes need to be farther apart. I bet you could use that tool to get the wheel to fit on the studs but the studs won't be centered in their holes (which will additionally be larger than necessary). Correct if I am wrong, I'm just a sapling

thats what lug centric lugs are for silly
Yep. And as you tighten them down they'll bend the studs a little bit and then everything will line up 'the way it should.'
Kind of.
Not that it's the correct way. But 2mm isn't too bad. Look at 5x115 and 5x114.3 cars.. .7mm is literally interchangeable.
I was going to see if I could get them professionally machined, gotta do some math tho. I wouldn't fuck up the structural stability of the wheels, right?
