Hey does anybody know what this ticking sound could be? It comes around in the wet/cold months. Happens a lot on startup and just when I turn the key in general. It will stop after a while with zero notice. However sometimes I'll hear a couple ticks at random times while driving. Obviously coming from all the electrical goodies in the driverside footwell. There's a lot more snooping I can do to try and isolate the problem but I just wanted to share it in case it seems obvious to anybody. They're prone to fail in older Miatas.
Yo so this is an unorthodox question, but it's an unorthodox problem. My parents gave me their 2001 Passat for Christmas. I finally got a handle of manual, I've gotten a few chances to get up to speed, etc. It's lovely. But there's a small issue... it's golden. Like, midas got carried away levels of golden. The entire car is gold, trimmed with silver. Like, it's maybe the worst possible color available. It's what I have to work with and it's a healthy car... ...but can anyone think of anything I can do to mitigate the gold? The silver highlights make me think getting black rims wouldn't solve anything. Paintjobs are super expensive right? Like, more than the cost of the car? Seat covers maybe? If you can't handle the weird, there's plastidip.

GUYS HELP, I NEED ADVICE I recently had a crash with a barrier, stupid me, and took my car into a garage for repair. Its a nice garage (well… i thought/think it is/was)as i’ve been there a few times with issues with my 206. The front passenger side panel/wing had a big dent in it, exposing where the electronics are in passenger side door where the hinges are. So i asked for this to get fixed and they got me a panel and sprayed it (£240 which i thought was steep but have no idea how much stuff is for body work so assumed it was right). They gave it back to me the next day and it looked brilliant, like nothing had happened to it. I was a happy customer (and broke). 3 weeks later. I hadn’t opened the passenger side door since then (since i rarely have people in my car) until i had to pick my mother up on christmas, she opened the passenger door and it bent the panel back in. I haven’t touched it anytime between the repair and the 3 weeks. Nobody has been in the passenger side or anything. So i assumed they didnt test to see if the passenger door opened or not when the panel got put on. So i phoned up a little annoyed and explained the situation. The boss was very understanding and apologetic and told me to bring it in. So i did and i assumed that they would be repairing it for free since it was an overlook on their behalf, handed it to them to have a look (i literally said to them “Can you please update me with what you think” not mentioning that i needed it repairing or anything. They’ve had it today all day, and i phoned up tonight asking if they got around to having a look at it. The boss answered and said that they have had a look, resprayed it and hammered the dent out but want to keep it another day to have a look too see if it goes wrong. They also said that its a complete mystery how it got bent in with the door since they tested it (i think thats a little white lie because of the fact that this happened the first time i opened that passenger door). Now i feel stupid because i didn’t ask if this would cost me anything. I cannot afford it if it does as Christmas has been a killer. And i assumed that it wouldn’t cost me anything since it was a mistake on their behalf and they didn’t do their normal thing where they ring me and tell me what they will be doing and ask if they should continue or not which is where i’d ask for the price. If they do ask me to pay for this error, what do i do? Am i in the wrong for thinking this was their error in the first place? Any advice?

It doesn't actually affect the car in any way, but you know it's not supposed to happen. Also mine essentially goes away as the car warms up as well. Thanks to those who replied, I think I can do some research now.
It's been really cold out and i really don't feel like upgrading this bolt from 'retained by vise grips' to 'retained with a nut and lock washer' because its cold out. \_:v:_/

It's not about what color a car is, it's all about how you drive it. Bother to take good care of it and treat it like any other paint color and suddenly it really doesn't matter since you drive something "nice" or "clean". It might not win points with people who care only about your sick wheels and how stanced off it's nuts your car is but anyone who actually gives two shits about cars sees a clean car. Repaint the trims and bumper/grill areas with some SEM Trim Black or other high quality trim paint to get the worn out ugly faded black out of it and those areas will pop more instead of making it look more dingy. You could also plastidip some of your chrome or prep it then hit it with the trim paint. Getting some better suspension which lowers it a little as well would also help somewhat but a nice meaty tire with a meaty sidewall would do more than a aftermarket wheel would IMO. Although you could also go with a nice wheel to compliment a proper tire. Doing a dark tint should also detract from the gold.
I would go blacked out wheels and blacked out chrome bits, fix the old faded black plastic, give it a dark tint, and lower it maybe an inch. get some meatier tire to fill the wheel wells with if necessary [editline]7th January 2016[/editline] [t]http://imgkk.com/i/urnf.jpg[/t] this is my usual car in gtao if it gives you any idea. it's got the same lesbian gold color but with a bit of trick stuff to make it less of a hairdressers car

It seems cheapest, least invasive, has the least downtime where I can't use the car, and probably lowest risk (that I'll like the end result) too. It's a shame that I don't really know much about cars to actually participate here, but I love this thread. Until I figure out what my income is like, I'll of course have to embrace the goldmobile, but thank you guys so much.
I replaced all my crumbling bakelite glow plug connectors with female bullet plugs and heat shink today. I thought the truck started a little hard when I got it into the garage, but when I started replacing them, 1 or 2 of them aside from the broken one were so loose they fell off the plug, so I actually became impressed that it started in 30 degrees without the block heater and with 5 or 6 glow plugs. im now a successful hobby diesel mechanic

I wasn't a fan of the green on tan interior Integra I have but now the green is probably my favorite color especially after seeing it in perfect shape. Tan interior is a much more cheerful place to be than other colors and looks pretty great when nice and clean. I'd get that rust protection strip/bed liner stuff around the bottom of the car professionally redone to begin with. Respraying the lower grill of your bumper with trim paint would also really freshen up the bumper. Then take some plastidip and do your color matched trims to see how you like them. If you like it much better get some SEM Trim Black and prep/paint your moldings. Spray your grill at the same time but I'd leave the emblem chrome still. At any time you could also prep and spray all the chrome door/window trims with the trim paint then get it tinted. Other than tint, none of this really totals upto much. The labor can be fairly intensive as doing it's almost all labor really though. Buy a few cans of plastidip and go crazy, if you want to see if you'd like black wheels plastidip once again :v: Just remember plastidip is temporary but paint is forever. Only paint things you intend to never ever undo and only plastidip things that cannot be replaced or matched easily. Side moldings for instance I would absolutely plastidip to try out before painting if you commit to it but things like your grill don't even bother as worst comes worst you just ebay one.
On my way to an IT client we drove past a rather interesting automotive gallery. I decided to film it on the way home. Don't worry, I wasn't the one driving. [vid]https://my.mixtape.moe/xmfpqa.mp4[/vid] [editline]7th January 2016[/editline] Maybe I'll be getting my next car there. Sadly they're all terribly expensive.
I'm looking to buy my first car that's not old and cheap. I'm really liking the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T for the price. I'm seeing them around $17 to $18K. Not sure if I should do that or buy something older but holds its value better. I've really wanted a Challenger for a long time, but in my current area, there's a legitimately good chance of getting carjacked in one of those.
My Buddy recently bought a 2015 genesis coupe v6 after putting $13k~ down. Its actually a pretty nice car.
My Buddy recently bought a 2015 genesis coupe v6 after putting $13k~ down. Its actually a pretty nice car.
I love the look of them. My only worry is reliability and, while not terrible, I haven't heard amazing things about Hyundai. It's a lot to invest and I'm afraid I'm spoiled by my '98 Lexus es300 in terms of dependability.
Sorry dude your rolled paint job looked bad, I wouldnt recommend it to anyone
This is how a $50 roll on paint job looks when thinned out properly; Tons better than OEM paint of the era, even OEM paint today. Trucks that roll off the assembly line have orange peel, this doesn't. I'd recommend it over spray painting for sure, the paint is much more durable. Personally, I'd choose doing a rolled job this way over just about every other paint job, unless you're doing some fancy paintjob that can't be rolled. [editline]7th January 2016[/editline]
I would recommend reading the instructions for a rolled paint job. fordlord just skipped that step
The thing is; there are no instructions set in stone for it, just trial and error. The can itself only tells you the compatible thinners, not the amount to thin it. Online, unless you pick an exact guide to follow and buy the same paint, you won't likely find a guide that uses the same kind of paint you chose. Even in a lot of guides, people end up redoing fenders after not thinning enough. I did mine 3 years ago, rolled jobs are more common now and more writeups are available. Am I happy with how mine came out? It's a lot better than it was, cost was low, and I found a good method for future projects.
