Whhyyyy do you need 13 pins!?!?!?
I berlyy even need 5 of them!
Called the police etc but they said they can't do anything without a plate or anything. I gave a description of the vehicle but "beige Toyota Highlander" isn't much to go on.
Same thing happened to my dad a year ago. Except he got hit by a mini and it totalled our Honda fit. None of the doors would close and the hatch was wrecked.
Couldn't really do anything about it but I got more than blue book value, so that was nice. I didn't have gap insurance, so that could've been pretty bad since we were barely a year into our payments.

Same here. I was riding on the back of my Dad's Harley with him and suddenly a guy 1 car ahead made an Illegal left turn causing the guy infront of us to rear end him making us rear end his car. The guy who caused the accident took off. Neither of us or the guy infront could get his plates and the police couldn't do anything because there's Silver Ford rangers everywhere.
Thankfully my Dads bike decided to pretend to be a car and absorb all the shock in the fender instead of throwing us 20 feet over the guys Accord

The fender only looks a bit dinged because my Dad managed to put it back in shape a bit but it was really fucked when the accident happened.

I know this might be nothing more than an average and normal car to you guys but I finally upgraded from my Impala 2003 that was falling to pieces to a brand new Ford Focus 2015, I had a good deal so I'm pretty happy with my purchase.
Sorry for the bad angle, took a quick photo before going to get my new car so I was in a bit of a haste.

And now for my new car,
Does anyone know the status of E85? Is it worth it anymore? I figure it'd be easier to run E85 on a boosted vehicle than to pay out the ass for 93+ octane. Last I knew the higher the amount of ethanol the more issues you can run into with forced induction without having tuned for it, iirc.
I really love that Alfa. Finally a competitor to BMW/Benz/Audi etc.
Also, the price difference between 87 and 93 is not really that much in the long run. E85's fun and all for boost; but it's just too uncommon. Also, 93 here in orlando is like 2.70 a gallon :V

What about Cadillac?
Can y'all help me with a few questions I have about my truck?
I've got a 2006 Ford F150 and it's got this thing called "Overdrive". When I asked about it at the dealership the tech said "Just leave that on unless you're towing something it helps with the fuel economy" and when I read more about it, it's supposed to allow the truck to put the gear ratio above 1:1 to between 0.99:1 to 0.83:1. From what I understand, that means that the transmission clutch (?) spins faster than the engine itself and helps with acceleration and shit.
But I don't want to wear out my transmission and it kinda seems like that would do it. So I was curious, when it's "on" there's no light that says "overdrive on" but when I turn it off it lights up and says "O/D Off" - When it's 'on' is it just allowing the engine to go into that higher gear ratio if it NEEDS to, or is it keeping it in that higher ratio all the time? And should I keep it off at/under certain speeds?
Also, what can y'all recommend to increase my fuel economy? I know a truck isn't going to be the most fuel efficient vehicle there is but I was talking to my buddy who has a Toyota V8 four door from 2002 that gets 16mpg and my Ford (which is only a 4.2L V6 2 door) only gets 14mpg. Shouldn't my truck/engine get better fuel economy than his? Is there anything I can do to it to eke out a little more mpg?
Uhh maybe I'm just totally wrong about this and not understanding it correctly but isn't 14mpg really bad? I do about 11.9/l which ends up to be about 28mpg. either literally get twice your efficiency or I'm just totally wrong somewhere.

What are you driving?
14 mpg is fine if it's a truck or you enjoy driving it. If you don't really care about cars and just want to save money it's not great.
Overdrive is literally just a lower/longer gear used for highway travel.

I like my truck and I enjoy driving it but I can't help but feel it's abnormally low for a 4.2L V6. A fucking V8 is getting more mpg than I am. Feels wrong.
Also doesn't help that I got a 2nd job that's 20 miles away so I'm driving an extra 40 miles a day 4 times a week or so now. Used to be I was only driving an average of 100 miles a week now I'm driving around 260-320 miles a week.

Right. My question was
A) Does having it on keep the truck in that lower gear all the time, or only when it 'needs' it
B) Should I turn it off under certain speeds/conditions?

Unless your ford transmission is weird, it shouldn't engage OD until you're cruising on the highway. Someone who knows more about transmissions can chime in.

Just got my car back a few days ago and im so relieved. After swapping a new long block and installing my new brakes and coilovers my wallet was hurting but im just happy its done and over with and i can keep my car for a while now. Rides like new and I've already put about 80 miles on it since I've gotten it back. I was without her for about a month so its a great feeling to drive my own car again.

"older truck"
hey man it's a 2006 it's not old. She's only got 56,000 miles on her too. My girl's practically brand new!
Also I seriously doubt he's driving a truck getting 28mpg. That's a midsize or something. The best mileage I've seen in a truck is like 24 and it was a brand new 2015 and pretty sure it was hybrid or something idfk.
Making me miss my 300C! Wicked car, if I was to get another it would be an SRT8 tho
And heigou, 11.9l/100km is 19.5mpg or something, not 29
[editline]20th August 2015[/editline]
Also, "insert user name here im too lazy to look it up", do you need any parts for your Newyorker? Buying the exact same car off my grandpa, you can have whatever you want just pay shipping, 440 is going in the duster.
Serj, slant is losing coolant somewhere, water pump has been done, smokes a little when its cold/starting in the morning and 1 cylinder is lazy so either its rings/valve stems or the headgasket. Any ideas?

The 4.2 is just a worn out old design that simply doesn't get good fuel mileage. The Toyota V8 has TI-VVT(or whatever they call their version) and other magic stuff that lets it get better mileage. If you want to increase economy, check your air, and fuel filters first. Dirty air filter can really rob power and mileage. A new ECU computer tune can add both power and mileage, as can a new intake and exhaust, but don't expect it to be massive.
As for the transmission, Overdrive is just what your last gear is called, in the case of the 4R70W, which is the transmission your truck has. Turning it off causes increased wear on both the engine and transmission, as they'll have to spin faster to keep the same road speed. The only time you want to turn it off, like the dealer guy said, is when you're towing because the engine can't get the torque it needs at the low revs Overdrive operates at, requiring increased throttle which then makes the transmission shift down and then less throttle which makes it shift up and generally it's confused. The reason there's no on light when O/D is on is because that's how it's supposed to operate.
Overdrive means the driveshaft turning faster than the engine, which lets you go a higher speed with less engine RPM. It's critical for maintaining highway mileage.
Ok so keep overdrive on unless I'm towing or like in mountains or some shit.
What kind of a mileage increase are we talking by getting a ECU computer tune or intake/exhaust? Less than 1mpg or more?
I'm assuming that "ECU computer tune" means a chip? What does that run?
Just keep O/D on period unless you're towing, or you want to slam on the gas to pass someone at highway speeds, turn O/D off a couple seconds before you do it to save your transmission from the dreaded 4-2 shift, which will blow out your 4th gear faster than you'd like.
Basically turning O/D off disables the 4th gear in your transmission, turning it into a 3-speed. So when you turn it off at highway speeds before hitting the gas, it shifts 4-3-2, instead of 4-2 slamming the gear home and wearing it out quickly.
The tune is a chip, yes, and I have no idea. A very quick google doesn't show many for the 4.2, I'd ask on an F-150 forum for advice. The exhaust and intake would get you at best 1-2 MPG each, the tune could be worth 2-7, depending on how both it and the stock one are set up. Usually tuners come with a Power tune and a Mileage tune.
And heigou, 11.9l/100km is 19.5mpg or something, not 29
Oh that may be so, would make much more sense. Twice the efficiency seemed like a lot. I was just using some online calculator and it calculated 11.9l as being 28mpg, google tells me the same.

My turbo 68 gets 16-18mpg. Theres a few people who claim they get 25mpg out of a slant but i think theyre full of shit.
The '74 gets 12mpg weather you mash the pedal or not, so I just mash it. 12mpg is all you get.
I may have to buy a third car here soon for certain reasons. Ill share that later.

I started prepping for doing the MPFI swap on my Civic. I previously spent a few days cleaning out the runners and plenum making sure everything isn't caked with sludgy shit. Today I spent the whole day brass brushing items and making everything pretty again. I assembled a throttle body and took apart another entirely solely for the purpose of painting my manifold. I've bought two different "full" intake manifolds just to come to one which I think will work for me. The first one I bought had two different IACV's on it and the one I needed was like totally shit, half of the parts are basically from one and the other half are the other lol.

I also picked up a 99-00 D16Y8 exhaust manifold which is basically more of a header being all tubular instead of cast. Unfortunately the guy I traded a bunch of stuff for didn't have the heatshields so I might have to drive up 100 miles north if he finds them.
I should be ordering the last of the parts I need tonight!

Your transmission has 4 gears. Gear 3 is 1:1, gear 4 means it's a ratio where the transmission output is faster than the engine is turning. That's all overdrive means, technically.
OD off means it locks the trans in the bottom 3 gears, not allowing it to shift into gear 4. This means you'll be at a higher RPM on the freeway, but will have more torque from the engine compared to if it were to shift into gear 4.
Shifters that have like 2,3,D are the same way. Locks in bottom 2, locks it in bottoms 3, D allows all 4 to work.
As was said, the only time you'd want anything other than D on an automatic is if you're towing something that requires more torque for hills, etc.. OR if you're in a downhill area and want to utilize engine braking (outside of D usually features an extra locking mechanism inside the trans that overrides the 1-way coaster bearing) so that you can have some measure of engine braking like a manual trans would have.
Ford is a bunch of derps and for the longest time has considered the last gear of the transmission of which is almost always an "overdrive" gear to be considered a super special gear for economies and a selling point or something.
Their 5 speed trucks are "4 speed w/ overdrive".
The overdrive on/off switch in such a new truck is pretty much just because Ford made some really dumb transmissions. I've never driven anything as terrible as the earlier Ford Escape/Mazda Tributes transmission wise, I could drive down a street through town without hitting a light and shift gears 20 times then shift even more trying to just get it to pick a fucking gear.
The main reason you dis enable OD wile towing is because your engine is spinning so slow allowing the trans pump to not pump as much pressure and that pressure is required to engauge the friction clutches inside the transmission. And when those cant "frictionate" they spin and cause damage to your friction clutches.
If you cause damage to those clutches you aint gonna have Overdrive anymore and say bye bye to your gas mileage.

Just don't worry about it kid unless you decide to tow anything of any amount over a long period of time and over some hill n shit.
