Settled on the stealth heads by the looks of it it should be good If I keep them naturally aspirated looks like I just gotta swap out the keepers they come with ,same crank and con rods new pistons, stock rocker arms, new cam,new intake new coil do something with the carb either rebuild or get one that isnt so entirely fucked up.
Also get the trans rebuilt.
Shifters that have like 2,3,D are the same way. Locks in bottom 2, locks it in bottoms 3, D allows all 4 to work.
Actually, at least with RWD Fords, 1 and 2 actually lock it in that gear, I can do my entire daily commute in 2nd gear.
The rest is spot on though.

Pretty sure that's how it all is. It's specifically for towing.
It still won't take off in 2nd gear, and it'll shift at red line into 3rd gear. It's not like a manual where you can blow shit up if you're being stupid (quite as easily, anyway).
"older truck"
hey man it's a 2006 it's not old. She's only got 56,000 miles on her too. My girl's practically brand new!
Also I seriously doubt he's driving a truck getting 28mpg. That's a midsize or something. The best mileage I've seen in a truck is like 24 and it was a brand new 2015 and pretty sure it was hybrid or something idfk.
The new Ram 1500's get 29MPG highway
my buddy just got a BMW R9T and I rode it and holy shit I've never experienced anything that corners so good
Uhh maybe I'm just totally wrong about this and not understanding it correctly but isn't 14mpg really bad? I do about 11.9/l which ends up to be about 28mpg. either literally get twice your efficiency or I'm just totally wrong somewhere.
my truck gets 10 mpg, maybe 12 if I'm hypermiling
[editline]21st August 2015[/editline]
my truck is a 2005 silverado with 290k though
[editline]21st August 2015[/editline]
also my truck is the fastest thing I own even with 290k on the clock. I put it on a dyno like 8 or so years ago and it made 550 at the wheels at like 5800 if I remember right. I lost the sheet ages ago
Whhyyyy do you need 13 pins!?!?!?
I berlyy even need 5 of them!
Left indicators, right indicators, reverse lights, rear lights, brake lights, left side lights, right side lights, permanent live, fridge, not allocated, earth, earth, and earth (yes, three earths)
They're mostly used on campers though, every trailer I've used has had the good old 7-pin.

Lucky bastards with your cheap petrol
Your transmission has 4 gears. Gear 3 is 1:1, gear 4 means it's a ratio where the transmission output is faster than the engine is turning. That's all overdrive means, technically.
OD off means it locks the trans in the bottom 3 gears, not allowing it to shift into gear 4. This means you'll be at a higher RPM on the freeway, but will have more torque from the engine compared to if it were to shift into gear 4.
Shifters that have like 2,3,D are the same way. Locks in bottom 2, locks it in bottoms 3, D allows all 4 to work.
As was said, the only time you'd want anything other than D on an automatic is if you're towing something that requires more torque for hills, etc.. OR if you're in a downhill area and want to utilize engine braking (outside of D usually features an extra locking mechanism inside the trans that overrides the 1-way coaster bearing) so that you can have some measure of engine braking like a manual trans would have.
So, where mine is "P, R, N, D, 1, 2" 1 and 2 would be "lock to 1st gear" and "lock to 1st & 2nd gear" respectively?

What's that? An external sun visor is a must-have accessory? I'll look into it right away.
The new Ram 1500's get 29MPG highway
That's advertised peak MPG. I barely know anything about cars and I know that you'll never get close to that number unless you have literally every accessory turned off and drive between 55-65mph
Everytime you come in here Snoberry you make a huge scene about anything. Just keep your truck in D, you don't need to move it unless you're towing or hill climbing. Yeah, you get bad MPG, it's a truck. Unless your driving anything below a quarter ton, you're just going to get shit mileage.
And yes, the RAM's do get roughly 30mpg with a diesel, and that's not peak. You can get way better MPG than what's on stickers, look up hypermiling. Cars that are labeled 22MPG can easily get 27MPG if you drive careful enough. My truck is 16MPG highway, it gets 19.
Your truck should say [P, R, N, D, 3, 2, 1] or a variation of that. If you put it in D, it will engage overdrive when it can. 3 is no overdrive. 2 means it will try to stay in second as long as possible, it will shift if it has to though. Same for 1, if you even have that. It may even say L. Depends on the vehicle.
Lucky bastards with your cheap petrol
to be fair I put premium so for us standards I get shit gas milage but I think of cars as more than just a utility so I dont care

Just tested with my car. At least with the 4R75, it does start in 2nd(0-84 without shifting), and it will hold redline in first with pedal on the floor, at least for as long as I felt comfortable(about 10 seconds). Maybe the 4R70W is less trusting if that's what you're talking about? Or maybe it's because my car is DBW so the PCM can interject if it feels it's necessary? Or maybe the 4R70W has the same behavior too and you're wrong. I'd have to drive one to find out.
My car doesn't shift above what I put it in. If I redline in L, it does not shift to second, redline in second does not shift to third. It will downshift into first (L) at a stop if I have it in stuck in 2nd.
Yeah, depends on the car. When I put mine is a lower gear it will hold till redline then shift.
My car doesn't do anything in any gear because it's broken. God DAMNIT
put it into D to drift

I work pretty much 50% as a regular mechanic and 50% as an auto body mechanic
As in professional? I work on cars but not for a shop.
Yes as in professional
My dad has been a mechanic for 35 years, so him and I go and work on our own stuff. Everything I know he's taught me so far. They're like computers to me, just a bunch of parts that work together well. You just have to learn it piece by piece.
Yes as in professional
Ahh, but are you ASE certified?
Just keep O/D on period unless you're towing, or you want to slam on the gas to pass someone at highway speeds, turn O/D off a couple seconds before you do it to save your transmission from the dreaded 4-2 shift, which will blow out your 4th gear faster than you'd like.
Basically turning O/D off disables the 4th gear in your transmission, turning it into a 3-speed. So when you turn it off at highway speeds before hitting the gas, it shifts 4-3-2, instead of 4-2 slamming the gear home and wearing it out quickly.
The tune is a chip, yes, and I have no idea. A very quick google doesn't show many for the 4.2, I'd ask on an F-150 forum for advice. The exhaust and intake would get you at best 1-2 MPG each, the tune could be worth 2-7, depending on how both it and the stock one are set up. Usually tuners come with a Power tune and a Mileage tune.
Pressing the od button to pass almost makes it feel like my mustang is a manual, but when I forget to press it before putting down the pedal that 4-2 shift is the fucking worst to experience :scream:
Ahh, but are you ASE certified?
It couldn't hurt :v:
Booked my driving test for a month from now! I was up to test standard two years ago but then stopped. Decided I'd try and get the test done before going back to uni - so I have had some more lessons and my instructor said I may as well book a test because he thinks all that's needed is some practice at reversing around corners.
Excited and nervous!
just hope your manoeuvre is a bay park it makes everything so much more easier and less stressful
Yes! Apparently the 'reverse around a corner' manoeuvre they use where I live is on a corner that goes up a hill so that's not going to be fun at all. I've tried it twice and stalled once so I'm not looking forward to it. Just gotta keep practicing.
