77 Camaro doesn't sound like a bad deal but it's gonna be totally gutless because emissions controls were just being added at that time and engines weren't developed to deal with it. I'd still take it over the other stuff so far other than the 67 Merc if it runs good. That 78 Lincoln is totally nuts but if he doesn't like driving the burban he won't like driving the Lincoln, which handles even worse. They're called boats for a reason. Personally I'd be all over that crazy shit. Also it's not really built as a daily.
What about the 67 volvo I posted that needed a paintjob?

The Camaro will be a good daily but depending on the motor may have kinda bad fuel consumption. If I were you I'd give the guy a call/text and ask him about the drivetrain.
It would need too much repair + manual transmission.
The only repair it needs is a paintjob.

The late 70's were rough on the performance of American cars.
I didn't see that Volvo. That looks like a good option but it'll ride like shit and probably smells like mildew. Looks awful cool though, I wouldn't even paint it. It won't struggle to go up hills or anything but you won't be doing any Dukes of Hazzard jumps either. With any classic Camaro though you'll get lots of people checking out your ride and talking to you about it, which is fun, you can make a lot of friends with a classic car.

While it's fun to explore random craigslists for cars, 3/4 of what you posted are about the last things I would ever think of picking for either a daily or a first car like ever. Salvage titles on sub 8000 cars older than 15 years mean pretty much nothing, if it's a shit car it's a shit car and if it's a nice car it's probably a nice car. If someone threw a shoe at any of my cars and hit the rear quarter panel it would probably get a totaled title. If you steal the spark plugs and seats from a Civic which are both things a monkey literally could remove with a 12mm and a working hand it gets a totaled title and is declared a total loss.
You sound like a grandma :v:
Wooden steering, gutless engines, hateful interiors, horrible build quality, no, thinking 70's american cars wouldn't be fun to drive is anything but grandmotherly.

Those would both make kick ass first, daily, and long term drivers.
Wooden steering, gutless engines, hateful interiors, horrible build quality, no, thinking 70's american cars wouldn't be fun to drive is anything but grandmotherly.
I can understand everything but the interiors. They're no worse than other cars of the era. Steering can be tuned and there's a couple easy tweaks you can make to get a bit more power out of them. They still won't be struggling to get up hills, it's not an Iron Duke. I'd rather have a 77 Camaro than a 90 anything.

https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/5183517274.html Another cool classic, this one needs paint but has primer. Doesn't say if there's anything wrong with brakes/steering/etc but does say the engine runs and is titled. I'd look into that one. It has a 289 so you won't be going anywhere fast but it's a good reliable motor. Someone in this thread is gonna tell you you don't want an old American car for your first but they're lying to you, old doesn't mean bad. They're easy to work on yourself (save mechanic $$$), will run right once set up right, and look hella fuckin cool. Only thing is if you crash it you will probably die and you might drown in pussy.
Isn't FWD better than RWD in some cases? With the weight of the engine over the drive wheels and a much smaller/lack of a driveshaft wouldn't it mean there's more readily available power to accelerate with?
a light semi powerful ff car is really chuckable in the corners, even though there's the tenancy to understeer, understeer is really manageable
You guys can't talk about classic mercs without at least summoning me once. :( That 200 is the last model year of the w110 chassis. If there's no rust in it, then the price is very good. If 5000 is a bit much to spend, you could always go for the even cooler alternative! [t]https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/ec/97/7b/ec977b4e55da5b8dad459f4050e044a8.jpg[/t] The successor to the w110, it's called the w114 (for six cylinders) and w115 (for four cylinders). They go up all the way to 76, so you could get a car which has 10 years less on its bottom.
Wait Volvo wagons are FWD? That changes everything I thought about them
They were RWD up through the 900 Series, then they switched to FWD (with the occasional AWD variant)
Wait Volvo wagons are FWD? That changes everything I thought about them
All Volvos have been FWD or AWD since the 850, the car that spawned the v70
