Is it hard to convert it to propane?
If the car is carbureted, it's as simple as putting a different carburetor on it. My slant can run off propane as well. There's a lot of engines that do. Some engines can run both - think of forklifts for example. I have also seen a turbo propane slant 6...

yeah we share a plan but my name is on it. I guess having no accidents or tickets helps.
We went and test drove the bus today. Got 2 miles and ran out of gas. Had someone bring us 5 gallons, then the battery went dead. Its got a ford 460 big block that runs like you would expect a 40 year old 460 to run, 4 speed trans that works for the most part, and an old worn out 2 speed rear end that grinds like a teenage couple at prom when you try to switch to high on the go. It has 3 fuel tanks, 1 of which works, 4 water tanks, 2 propane tanks, a shitwater tank, 3 way fridge/freezer, 10 gallon water heater, sink, oven, stove, furnace, swamp cooler (busted), shower, shitter, 3 bunks, hideaway couch bed, 120v 30amp generator, and a luggage rack the size of my car on top. We've agreed to buy it tomorrow for $1300
It also leaks trans fluid.
A+ purchase 100% worth it.
honestly it's a pretty good deal even with what's wrong with it. who cares that it makes strange sounds and might need a zip tie or 10 somewhere down the line? it's a bus, not a dragster, it'll be fine
I know, I wasnt trying to sound sarcastic, I'm fuckin stoked for fixing it up and using it to get wasted in many new and wonderful places
We also gotta replace some plywood in the floor, some parts are a little soggy.
You could part that thing out for a hell of a lot more than $300. Going to have a lot of fun with that

Be super duper careful with that 2 speed Ford rear end. There are times when it will disengage when trying to use it since it operates off vacuum or something dumb. I've heard of many people losing it down a hill with that piece of crap. Good idea on paper, not executed.

Yeah, we were able to get it to go smoother by shifting into neutral, then switching to high, then trans back to drive. The PO said if you get a good feel for it you can let off the gas and work it just right to gently message the gears into place. Im more opting for the "leave it in high permanently and hope we dont have to start off on a hill.
That's pretty hard to forget. :v:
One time I was doing an oil change and took out the filter then hit lunch... came back, filled the car up, started it for a moment so the filter would get filled, then checked it... and realized it puked allll over. Oooops.
Another shop in town didn't tighten the pan plug all the way and the folks that I know who had gotten the oil change done got the low oil light a couple miles later :/ Now that's pretty embarrassing.
Note to self, don't forget the drain pan when changing the oil. Left a slick to rival BP on the driveway today.
My buddy did a quick oil change on his BRZ in my garage, 6 quarts of nightmare piss water boiling hot 0w-20 piss oil came flying out of the pan. It overfilled my "chambered" drain pan and also exploded oil all over the bottom of his car and my garage.
Feel free to crucify me but the GT86/BRZ/FRS is a pretty shitty car, well not really shit but at least greatly in comparison to what it's hyped up to be. The stock tires are an absolutely stupid idea, the build quality is garbage, everything is screwed together like shit, the direct injection fuel pumps are all faulty by design, the navigation/radio is absolutely horrible, the frameless window seals leak after 30k miles and there's too many things around the car that are just bad design. That buddy's selling his and buying a Honda or something else lol.
Anyways, finally got my car parts today. Once again we play the badly made, wrong parts game again.

Holy shit fuck you DNJ, you literally make the same gasket with two different part numbers but for the vtec motor with wider ports you actually manage to sell a smaller worse made gasket without the inlaid rubber seal for the coolant passage. I could have bought the gasket for my motor but I wanted one which matched the intake manifold and not the head, instead I got a even shittier gasket which is still wrong.
I'm gonna get stuck paying 3x as much for a garbage felpro gasket at a local parts store.. Woo, I can buy Moog or Beck/Arnley parts or I can buy Chinese knock off brand and still get the wrong damn parts. I don't even know how you can fuck up parts so bad for a Civic.
At least my intake manifold is fully assembled and all cleaned up.

who buys premade gaskets they cost like 80x more and unless it's a super complicated gasket it only takes 5 minutes to make

just because they're usually single cylinders. try an RD125
[editline]27th August 2015[/editline]
or just lighten up the reciprocating mass. if it's got a reed valve you can cut most of the intake skirt off, and on the exhaust side you can thin it out quite a bit. bored out titanium wrist pin, bronze bushing so the wrist pin doesn't wear out so quick. retard the timing too while you're at it. blueprint bottom end if you can afford it
or just more seat padding, but what fun is that

I'm not very "crafty", I can't even manage to cut generic square shapes with rounded corners out of foam for my fish tank canister filter.

There's no way in hell I could cut this shape, nor could I do half as good of a job as a $4 gasket. There really needs to be a proper seal on the coolant passage as well, the shitty ones without them fail.

I love my insurance broker. She never asks for mechanical inspections, she's super cool, I know everyone at the brokerage by first name and vice versa (I switch my vehicles up a lot). So I told her about how I want to shoehorn a big block in my duster, she said she'll talk with the insurance company. I'm 19, I have 1 speeding ticket from 3 years ago, so I've got a pretty good track record. Despite that the insurance company was going to deny me insurance for my car if I big blocked it. She phoned them up, put in a lot of good words, and now everything is A-okay!! I'm gonna buy this woman some flowers, I couldn't ask for a better broker with all the shit I pull!! (Letting me insure not entirely road worthy vehicles, changing my insurance pretty well once a month)
In other news, ordered my 440 swap headers, $1055!!! Damn this shitty canadian dollar and monopoly on 440 swap headers! Buying mounts today, located a radiator and fan, got a parts list from NAPA for my disc brake conversion, some odds and ends to take care of.
Bought a used 850 demon carb, damn these things are pimp.
People in my town don't even tell the insurance what mods they do.
My friend has a 1980 F250 where the body is the only thing original. EVERYTHING else is different. Tagged and titled under an F250. Totally doesn't have F350 axles, 460ci cammed out the ass, nor is it lifted 2'. Nope. Not at all. Icing on the cake? It was originally two wheel drive.
Are you supposed to tell your insurance company when you modify your car??? Huh?
Are you supposed to tell your insurance company when you modify your car??? Huh?
If you want the value of your car to be adjusted, yeah. If he wrecks his supermodified truck, he's going to get the value of a stock, used 1980 F-250.

In some places they like to void your insurance over stupid shit.
IIRC in australia upgrading an older vehicle to disc breaks or electronic ignition over points makes it unisurable.
Also Alberta Insurance agencies tend to be the absolute worse kind of people they have justified charging 400-600$ a month for insurance for anyone under 25 for the reason you are under 25.

That's counter intuitive.
I normally never say anything, but in this case its a pretty drastic overhaul. Going from 90whp to 400whp, changing drums to discs, frame bracing, different wheels and bolt pattern, column shift t to floor shift, LSD rear, and done by myself and not a shop.
In the event of a crash, the value difference from this car as it sits, to when it has a big block is about $7000+. I may get it appraised afterwards just to be on the safe side.
I pay a little under $1300 a year, just Liability, comprehensive, and fire + theft.

Say what? My buddy is at 45k in his BRZ with no issues, and he's running straight ethanol with a tune (extra 30whp). And it's not the car's fault that you attempted to drain the oil immediately after turning it off, hot oil is hot oil. What did you expect?
It's an extremely competent car. Both of us were a little underwhelmed when he purchased it, but after an aggressive alignment, wheels and tires, and some lowering springs, we were amazed at what it was capable of. You can sit here and argue all day about having to modify the car to make it feel worthwhile to you, but I don't know many cars in its price range that come close to its performance stock. His 3 1st place wins at the autox speak for itself.

What shitty Duster had 90 hp from the factory? Was it not just intentionally misreported to get around regulations?

The inline 6 I think. The "high performance" version made 110hp.
