Might be developing a like for camper vans. Are they tolerant of road and off-road weathering? Could one both sleep and store camping supplies in them to live a life on the road? Can one move from the driver's seat to the back without leaving the vehicle? How zombie-proof are they/can be made to be?
1- Might be Developing a liking for camper vans: Ok 2- Can they drive on and off-road: Which camper van, there's several manufacturers that make them. 3- Could you live a life on the road: Which camper van, there's several manufacturers that make them. 4- Can you move from front to back without exiting: Which one... there's several. 5- How zombie proof: Likely all bad with their high center of gravity they'll tip over easy.
[editline]1st September 2015[/editline] Hole saw? or blunt force trauma with a pipe.
Eeeh, I tried for a bit. [t]http://i.imgur.com/GjpclXr.jpg[/t] It's in there pretty good.
just cut it the rest of the way open, cut it off, and then weld it all back together

Heat up the plate with the torch for about a minute on high heat and then take the piece of metal with a hammer and thwack. If it ain't purdy, and you can live with the plate possibly being pushed back, there ya go. [editline]1st September 2015[/editline] Also, heat up the end of the galvanized if you use it. It'll create a slightly more even hole when it punches through that way.
just cut it the rest of the way open, cut it off, and then weld it all back together
I thought of that, but I'd have to find someone to weld it back together. Ordinarily I'd use it as a learning opportunity, but I can't afford the equipment for now.
Blow torch and a long stick of copper or galvanize pipe. Or would the plate just bend away?
If you heat it up enough. Also, if you can punch a single hole in and have a sawzaw with metal blades; there ya go!
If you heat it up enough. Also, if you can punch a single hole in and have a sawzaw with metal blades; there ya go!
... I actually did not even think of a sawzall. I've got one of those in my basement, I'll pick up some new blades and give it a go. Thanks!
... I actually did not even think of a sawzall. I've got one of those in my basement, I'll pick up some new blades and give it a go. Thanks!
You still need to carve a hole first before you can begin. I'd say punch one and then saw that bitch out.
That Wolksvagon one the hippies had.
No offence, that era of van is very nice. But its a classic car. I don't exactly like the idea of doing a road trip in a air cooled. The Vanagon is a little better with its water cooled motor either in gasoline or a diesel, but thoes motors are a little more rare and not many people know how to work on them compared to air cooled motors that everyone and their uncles have had one. [t]https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/6b/87/f7/6b87f7b2619b1d9cc92fc272fc16dc7e.jpg[/t] or [t]http://www.curtain-tracks.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/1976-VW-Westfalia-Camper.jpg[/t] And I believe their is a you tuber that has went around south america and alaska and such in the aircooled one.... Pay attention to how many times it broke down on him. https://www.youtube.com/user/kombilife [editline]fkngfg[/editline] And the sad part is the van is stuck in alaska with a shredded tranny (which is nearly impossible to do). And I have two of them.... and I think 3 regular beetle ones...

My family owns a 91 VW Vanagon. I'm sure it could be a good car, but only if you've got a big budget for maintenance. Ours is at like 91k and it spends more time in the shop than on the road.
That Wolksvagon one the hippies had.
If the zombies chase you to a hill you're fucked.
Svx swap is coolest swap
The only way I would travel in one is with a Subaru motor in it for sure, because I would be hauling my little enclosed trailer behind it for storage of food and camping supplies....along with my griddle... GOTTA HAVE THE GRIDDLE MAN IT MAKES AWESOME FAJITAS. But traveling in my dads Suburban would be some much easier. Wile still pulling a enclosed trailer. Because manly that 350, front and rear air con, and still be able to do anything I want with 4x4. But.... if somthing breaks down on the road I would be fucked with the added complexity of the 4x4 system and how much more parts are just for the vehicle being a 4x4. I would like to get new stickers for both my honda em 500 and 600 generators...
stickers for your... generators?
stickers for your... generators?
[t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1031910/Stuff/IMAG0997.jpg[/t] They are a little beaten, and all the others are almost gone because of gasoline spilled on them. Gonna powder coat their frames and go threw them completely. They are perfect little gennys.
That sounds decent. What's he asking for it?
3k
3k
For one with rust work done, and with the better engine of the offerings (I personally don't like the turbo eturbo) I'd say that's a decent deal. Its not the 16 valve though but I've never heard of one with 8 valves. Still, I'd go for it if you're set on a 900. [editline]2nd September 2015[/editline] Did some reading on 8v vs 16v, you'll get more torque out of it as well as better sound and reliability at the cost of parts availability and mpg. Sounds pretty good to me.
I blew myself up twice today trying to start the propane fridge, which must have a bad valve because pressing it to start the pilot light vents the propane at the valve, instead of at the pilot light. I rebuilt most of the swamp cooler, but Im waiting on a filter and it needs a little plumbing. We went to lowes to find some laminate floor and interior paint, and I also had another idea on how to paint it. Gray with a shark mouth on the front, painted on seams and rivets, gunpods, ect. We also came up with a name, Rukkus. Its getting a vanity plate once its registered. The 460 is running a lot better now that she choked down the old gas and got some new stuff burning, got the carb a quick clean, fresh fuel filter, and chopped the mufflers off. Weve also got a simpler distributor on the way to simplify the awful, twisted, alice-in-wonderland-type mess of a wiring system. Upon closer look at the breaker box, we decided there was far too much rusted and bare wire to safely play with the 120v systems. The oven cooked some frozen sandwiches perfectly, once it smoked for a while and cleaned itself out. I fuckin love this thing.
I demand more pictures of it
So I sort of have before and after photos of my MPFI swap. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5601782/EF%20Pics/2015-08-29%2019.21.47.jpg[/t] [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5601782/EF%20Pics/2015-09-01%2018.11.31.jpg[/t] I'm gonna have to chop down my airbox lid since the throttle body is about 5" left of where the DPFI box was. It runs really really great aside from it refusing to hold a idle when warm from what I assume is a gigantic vacuum leak. I'll screw with it tomorrow but if I slam the gas in 2nd the tires break loose which is definitely a new development. The D15B7 is said to have 10hp and 10tq more than the DPFI D15B2 so with my thin headgasket, far better manifold and a overall upgraded exhaust after I clean up the header I could probably see like 15hp overall being totally possible.
