Not much done to the internals yet, though I'm thinking of doing an A/C delete just because it doesnt work anyways and I live in new hampshire so what the fuck ever, weight reduction baybeee.
apologies for the quality, taken on a Droid MAXX

ugh those rims need a wipedown, she hasnt had a good outside cleaning in a while
You want a two-bar roof rack for that off my old 760? I'd do about a hundred shipped for it which sounds expensive but most of the time they go for alot more, like $150+
Is there a list of engines that respond well to boost? I know the Vortec series of GM engines love boost for some reason. Some Hondas and so on. Chrysler 340 and /6 seem to also.
But what about engines that were never meant to be boosted, just work amazing with it?
The Subaru EJ18 does, just still doesn't make much power even with all the boost. iirc, you can nearly double the HP with 20psi of boost. That's still only about 200HP.
I consider that 'doing well' since it's a 100% increase.
In high altitudes, the non-turbo 6.2 Detroit and 6.9/7.3 IDI IH diesels love turbo's. They starve for air and nearly need them up high. Near sea level, turbo's don't give too much for any of them. 50hp/100tq for the Detroit (more if aftermarket parts added), and a bit more on the 6.9/7.3 at sea level.

That's not the whole thing though, it'll be missing the wood part on top that it definitely 100% positive it came with. I can recreate that.
I have a problem with my SAAB. Everytime i accelerate the whole car starts shaking, like it's dying or something i can't really explain it but the engine light shows up anyway. It happens everytime i accelerate/Hit full gas. Anyone have a clue?

misfire?
So I'm a college student with a teeny little 2002 Sentra.
I think cars are cool, but I know nothing about them. I love the idea of having a car that I know every intricate detail, that I can manage aftermarket parts the same way I build my own PC, and that I can take on free track days or to just play around with outside of my commute to school.
Cars as a hobby obviously require a lot of dedication in terms of time, but how about money? Did most of you have to wait to really work on cars until you had a stable income? How did most of you even get interested in cars?

sounds like your typical saab to me
but really though is it like an aggressive rattling or just kind of a shudder

The volvo likes to shudder when she gets cookin' if she doesn't have good oil

Could be a harmonic balancer; my grandmother's Buick with a 3300 V6 lost its balancer and it would vibrate the entire car at road load RPM, but would quiet down at acceleration RPM oddly enough.
Check out some automotive stores near you, as many franchises like Advanced Auto Parts (USA) will plug in a OBD scanner and check the error codes for free.

Most of us it just happens. You have an interest in cars, you don't gain one over time. Also stable incomes mean nothing. If anything the car turns any stable income into an unstable one.
$50 a month in maintenance prevents a $4000 emergency repair bill

Yeah it feels pretty aggressive, i think it feels like when you hit the gas pedal to full the car stops getting fuel and want's to keep moving or something, i dont know. It's like when you're about to stop the car and you don't hit the clutch and the car does not want to stop, it want's to continue on.
When it started to happen, i stopped the car and shut it down and ignited the engine again and did rev the engine with no strange sound or anything.
I'm taking it to a mechanic tomorrow, hopefully i can make it in one piece. But i will try to film it anyway so i can show you guys.

You don't need any income to open the hood and figure out how stuff works.
I can't speak for myself because I'm on the same boat as you (first time posting here), but I don't think it's any different from just about any type of passion. It's small steps first, big leaps later. For starters, you can do maintenance things like changing oil, headlights, stuff like that. Before you know it, you're swapping engines. For money, I guess it's just like with PCs - if you're smart, you barely need any, you can adjust a lot of stuff for free. The way I see it, individual mods are only small one-time investments. Only if you decide to go nuts you have to pay exorbitant amounts.
Then again, I know nothing, I don't even have a car anymore :downs:
Speaking of which, on a scale of dumb to really dumb, how bad would swapping a Škoda 742 engine with a rotary be? I know rotaries are a commitment, but I wonder if such a shitty car can even take it (not even questioning the engine costs more than 20 of them). I just have this blurry idea that rotaries are very compact, and so is the stock engine in that car. One hurdle I can think of is that the car is an RR and I'm not sure if the cooling would be sufficient. Another is that they're all rustbuckets, but assuming one would find one in perfect condition, I don't know if it can even take twice-thrice as much power as usual (and keep it up for prolonged periods - rotaries need this, I know that much). No need to tell me it's a bizarre idea :v:
Well you're going to need alot to make that rotary feel happy in there. And yes the cooling is NOT going to be sufficient. Why no just get a small 4 and a small blower instead? It'll be half the cost and less of a headache.

Sounds like a serious misfire, but you should get the code checked, if it is a misfire it'll tell you where it is.

First step....
Buy either a vw aircooled bug or a honda.
Soon you will be a ASE certified mechanic before you know it.

Or you could buy a BMW and be an ASE certified mechanic THAT DAY.
If I buy ceramic brake pads, should I get high-carbon rotors as well or does it make any difference?

Completely tore the 440 down to bare block, wire wheeled all the mating surfaces, primed it, and painted it a darker grey. Gonna paint the heads and intake the same color, black valve covers, going for a stealth bomber kinda look

Picked these beauties up too, half price (like fukken $1400 CDN new), O2 bungs installed, thermal coating inside, polished ciramic coating on the outside
also, holy shit

that block looks sexy
Been having issues with my new G1W lately.
Turns out my Transcend card is corrupt. Can't get it to hold a format right via computer or camera.
Debating buying a new Transcend online, or trying a Samsung Evo card locally ( Samsung and Transcend cards are the highest rated for compatability)
I agree, mopar big block...blocks are real nice and clean looking platforms, not a buncha useless castings for shit jutting out like other engines (i think my 460 had something stupid on it)
But after you've seen the next magnitude of pimpitude billet aluminum hemi block then all blocks are ugly

Not the exact same block as my dad but this was the best picture of one to get an idea of the machining
I noticed on the front right suspension of my CR-V that there appears to be a torn rubber piece that goes around the spring (now it looks like the spring has gone through it). What part might this be and how urgent is it to fix it?
It's likely just the shock boot. Practically vestigial; don't sweat it.
I love how simple and no-bullshit mopar blocks are. I've always liked how clean classic mopar is under the hood in general, for the most part. Say what you want but Chrysler knew its customers liked to wrench.
Tips on hooking up a fan relay on a EP3, I am brand new to this, my friend gave me his old fan relay, has the fuses on it, I am new too wiring. I need to hook up two fans on my radiator. I have the relay, and a positive and negative wire, yet I do need to get some more wire to make it longer as it will obviously not reach. My friend said he would hook it up for me...but that was about a month ago and I want this project done before the end of September. So, I figured I should stop relying on him and figure out how to do it myself! With your guy's help of course.

What's wrong with all of the stock fan wiring? Just wire the fans together on the stock wiring.

about 13 hours

It's all gone :v:
How do you guys suggest a newbie familiarize themselves with the inner workings of their car? Unfortunately I am currently out my engine hoist haha
So i've been to the mechanic but he did not have time to check my car when i was there so he told me to come back in the afternoon.
He thinks it's this.
