If anyone's wondering, I googled how much 40k DKK was and it's roughly $6,000. So he bought a Supra for $3,000 :v:
Yeah I'm very glad I got the car that cheap. But the reason I got it that cheap is that the car was not running, and he didn't have the paperwork for the car. So the car basically didn't exist and didn't run.
It was only good for track-only use, or spare parts. I just took up the challenge of making it run again and retrieving the paperwork and it seems that it's finally coming to an end so I can get on with the project.
and you're also forgetting the tax, so for 3000 he's not getting a road legal car at all.
They're cheap because it was supposed to be the most commonly available american car. That's why the police forces used them. Now that they no longer exist, they've moved onto the Chevy Impala and the Ford Fusion. Now you tell me if those FWD things are even remotely up to the task of catching a speeding criminal in anything other than a stock civic?
It's ok though. I don't disagree that you personally bought it because it was cheap, no worries. But you have to admit, that's pretty much the only reason people want one, and if you didn't want it to look like a cop, you'd strip it of the little badge in the back that says "Police Interceptor" but people leave it... I would personally drive a cop car, but not the kind you guys think of.
But that's not true. People leave the Police Interceptor badge the same way people leave the GT badge on a Mustang or GTI badge on a Golf. Every time I ask someone in the owner's club why they bought a CVPI, it's either "Cops trust it so why can't I?" or "My [relative] drives/drove one!" or "It was super cheap!" or "I heard it's reliable" or "I wanted a cheap big sedan with RWD," something along those various lines. Not once has it been "to look like a cop, bro."
The parting of the freeway is something that is a perk of the car, not the reason people buy it
JDM imports are going to explode in 5-6 years once the meaty part of 90s jap cars become legal. WRX, Supras, RX7s, Skylines... oh god they're going to get modded into the ground and slammed into walls by morons drifting them. Fuck.
Don't worry, they will be hard to get a hold of to begin with. My friend has been to Japan the last couple of years, and he visited the auction for a customer who wanted a GT-R, but he never managed to find one. He told me that all the popular JDM sports cars are getting rare in Japan because they're getting more and more popular around the world and are exported all over the globe.
His contact in Tokyo told him that in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's, young people used to spend their money on cars and upgrading and customizing, but now they spend their money on their smartphones and data usage. Data is extremely fucking expensive in Japan, so a lot of youngsters choose to not have a car so they can cover the cost of data use.
So a combination of less car enthusiasts overall in Japan and the rest of the world paying good money to import their cars, means they will be getting harder and harder to find in Japan. So by the time those cars will be legal in the states, they will be scattered all over the world, being even harder to find :v:
I want a Kei car or van of some sort. A Subaru 360, or a Honda City Turbo, or a Subaru Domingo, (or a Nash Metropolitan), would all really tickle my fancy. I just wish there were more of them over here. Ldesu, can you post pictures of your Domingo please? I shall live my kei fantasy vicariously through you.

but then again, nobody would ever admit to wanting to look like a cop.
Not sure you'd want to imitate a cop right now anyway... They don't have a good reputation lately.
I drive an Ex-Police vehicle because I know they maintained it well, it was cheap, it's fun, has a shit ton of high performance stuff on it, overall a good purchase. If I have to drive slower because people wont speed around me, so be it. It's probably better for me anyway.
Just this morning I was driving down a very busy highway and I see a girl adjacent from me texting. I honk my horn and she dropped that shit so fast. Drove perfectly fine the rest of the way. I don't like acting like authority, but holy shit people drive like assholes when I'm not in my car. People cut me off left in right in my pickup truck.
The crown Vic is great in traffic as long as you drive aggressively, but fairly.
FFS what is with Reddit's raging hard on for manual transmissions? Like, this dude bought a Hellcat with the 8-speed auto. Everyone was dogging on him because it wasn't a manual. Are you kidding me? The auto has way better gearing, it shifts quicker than a human, and it's not a pain in the ass to drive in stop and go traffic.
Amazing cars are thrown to the curb because it doesn't have a manual. I saw a post about the Jeep truck coming out. "I'd only buy it if it has a manual" -- Why? Is it really that big of a deal?
The other day I was wondering what's with the hardons for auto in this place, then I noticed the flags.
Firmly in the manual camp btw :downs: Cultural bias.

Speculation: It's not 1968 anymore and automatic transmissions are objectively better for any reason other than nostalgia?
Nothing wrong with manuals, if you prefer one, great, they're fun, more power to you. Dogging on people who are more about streamlining? Nah, that's not okay.
autos are more consistent and since the only racing around here is drag racing I'll stick with auto. if you want the extra involvement go reverse pattern manual valve body
not a pain in the ass to drive in stop and go traffic.
So the exact same as the manual?
Hell with that much horsepower you would probably be able to just leave it in 2nd or 3rd the whole time/whenever you need to move up
Well, I'm just speaking in general. Be it a 80hp car to an 800hp. I don't see why it not being a manual would sway them. I've driven manuals, I don't see the appeal. I understand if you only track the car and don't do anything but race with it. It's almost like the people that buy huge diesel trucks as their daily because they tow a boat twice a year.

When I had my 5 speed 98 Civic, I just left it in 2nd in stop and go traffic around Tacoma and it worked just fine... I miss my lowered rice rocket a lot right now... It's making me sad to think that it wound up in an impound and then auctioned... it had so much mad tyte JDM... and a malfunctioning MSD controller. I traded my ex wife's piece of shit 2000 VW beetle to a friend for it.

Funny story, that particular friend was gay, and he wanted the VW very badly, and didn't want the civic because it was low and a rough ride, and too customized for him. He didn't trade for the longest time because - his boyfriend said the VW beetle was too gay looking. Lemme reiterate. the gay guy said it was way too gay. I miss those two as well. All of us and the roommates partied so hard pretty much every day. I want back into washington...

if you live in a small town like i do the drawbacks of manual transmissions(heavy traffic) almost disappear, all while providing lots of abandoned back roads for fun time.

Heh, I was actually considering dd'ing my grandpa's deisel once I go get it, at least for a while. It gets about the same mpg as my Vic, but it has 4wd and I can finally wear a greasy baseball cap, chew, and be a good ol deisel truck boy.
Not usually a fan of extensive restomods/custom body stuff but Ringbrothers do such clean, professional work I can't help but love their builds.

This is what modern throwbacks should look like.

100% agree, there's no reason to be a dick about personal preferences.
The point about them being outdated is curious, because we're hurtling towards a future of green autonomous cars, and I wonder if people are going to be like "you actually control your fossil fuel-powered car, with like, pedals and a steering wheel, what is this, 1807?" :v: Nothing against auto or autonomous cars.

i lived in Bremerton on the North side towards Silverdale, and I drove all over the state for my job. I'd go as far as Seattle and Samammish, to Port Angelas and Forks... Sometimes 3 hours one way in a night. I hated the job, not the state. I'd go through Tacoma a lot because that was where I'd wind up after crossing the narrows to go to Seattle.
One of the other things I miss about Washington, was titty coffee kiosks. EVERYWHERE. Squirrel you know what I'm talking about.

Yea my dad does a lot of driving around here as well since he's a semi truck driver. Those titty coffee places are everywhere I'm pretty sure we have the most than any other state in ours especially in the area past North Seattle.
TIL of the RAM 700. A mexican car-truck.
[t]http://www.allpar.com/photos/ram/2015/750/truck.jpg[/t]
Cost about $14K. Yes please.

if the front end didnt look terrible I'd buy one
Needs more aggressive look to it. Though it was designed by FIAT, not really known for being aggressive.
I'm looking at insurance for my '92 Miata and I was wondering if you guys have any advice or tips for getting the best deal on insurance. I don't need "Full" coverage since the car is only valued at like $2,500 at most, right?
I dont get why though, dodge has the dakota, why would it need another small truck?

You can get whatever insurance you want, just get the cheapest insurance you can possibly get unless you want to pay more for insurance than the cars worth.

FIAT is making a lot of bad moves. The owner is frantically trying to ditch Chrysler. Just recently he tried to propose a merger with GM. He's attempting to ditch all of Fiat for whatever reason. They are just not doing well.
The problem is that no company in their right mind wants Chrysler. The Charger and Challenger, 300 and the "dart" barely make it as a sales lineup. If he were to offer Jeep and Ram, any company would take those. Everyone wants Jeep and Ram. So if they're attempting to badge more Ram vehicles, my thought is so that they can sell Ram as a whole with a "lineup" besides just big trucks. In our lifetime we may witness a Ford Ram, or a Chevy Ram.... a Fomoco or Bowtie raped Mopar. Could you imagine?
