Returned from what was intended to only be a 36 hour trip to Idaho Falls and back last night. Trip nearly became a nightmare twice. About 5AM on the second day I was starting to get really concerned about why the hell my dash felt so dim. It finally clicked on me that we were running purely on battery and pulled over before it went totally flat. Alternator is only three years old and again, the fucking alternator light never lit. What the hell? This is the brass terminal that links the alternator to the battery. Somehow it fatigued and broke apart and I never saw it because it hides under a boot. I only packed a socket set and multimeter with me so I had to walk a kilometer back to a gas station to buy a pair of wire cutters and a crescent wrench. Clipped and pulled off the terminal above, stripped a bit more insulation off and wrapped it around the post before tightening the bolt back down. I use a Deep Cycle battery in the car so it had recovered enough by then that the computer and fuel pump were working so after pulling all but the essential fuses I gave it a push start and I was off again. Drove for another hour and a half before I gassed up and reinstalled the fuses. Five minutes later the engine temperature raced away. Pulled over again. Belt had come slack. There's a bolt on the alternator that is used to hold the belt tension. I tried resetting it and tightening the bolt again and to my dumb fucking disbelief the head fell off and now here I was in the middle of nowhere with my water pump AND alternator effectively inoperative. Spent about half an hour walking up and down the highway to just find a washer. Then decided to McGuyver the rest and stole a bolt from the air filter, a nut from the exhaust manifold heat shield and another bolt to act as a washer from one of the battery posts. It was ugly but it worked. Eventually I stopped at a Home Depot and bought a bolt, nut, washers and lock washer I could better trust to hold everything until I can drill out the broken bolt and thread in a new one next week. Lost three hours driving total to it. the rest of my fuckup was I assumed that North Washington was still on fire, so I took the highway that went through south Washington, Northeast Oregon, and South Idaho which added something like six fucking hours to the trip. On the way back I just went through Montana, the north tip of Idaho, Northeast Washington and back over the border in just under 12 hours. Oh yeah, and now fourth gear on the transmission likes to pop out and not sync when you try to put it back in while driving. Transmission is still under warranty. You better fucking explain this shit, Mr Transmission. [editline]asda[/editline] On the plus side, the odo rolled over to 400000km during the trip. :toot:

And that Baja is the one I helped my friend put a new motor, trans, and suspension bits in from his $500 60k mi parts car..learning so much more about Subarus and it's great [editline]12th September 2015[/editline] I'm thinking about lifting mine an inch or two and I also should try to find some new rims for it. Opinions? Ideas?

It literally looks like another juke from what I can see.
Well, the paint peeling off the trunk of my Dart has come to a point where I am incredibly mad every time i wash my car. The clear is all but faded off the entire roof as well. The roof feels like sandpaper no matter how intense I get with washing or clay barring. I thought I would have a paint shop repaint the top of the back of the car, and the roof repainted white since everything else was fine, but the quote I got for matching the faded Turbine Bronze paint, would be more than to just have the whole car re-shot. So since that is the case, I am going to have the car repainted in my favorite mopar color ever, and have a black roof, black painted tail stripe, and everything else will be the same interior-wise. It should look sexy as hell. And the color is not remotely orange or bronze...

Opinions? Ideas?
I'll take the blue Impreza :v: I want another GC/GF chassis. As for lifting yours; Subaru Outback struts give about 1.5" of lift, Subaru Forester struts give about 3" of lift. You will need misc parts from both vehicles to complete the lifts, and an alignment after. As for rims; what kind of look are you going for? I recommend staying with OEM wheels, due to them having a high build quality and the right offset for your wheel bearings. That being said, there are dozens of OEM options. I think that the darker colored Baja wheels (ones in your pic are the light ones) would offset the white nicely. If you want more of a rally look, I have always liked the 98-99 era Legacy GT Snowflake wheels.
Trust me you don't want that one :v: I'll definitely look into Outback struts, because there's Outback wagons everywhere in the junkyards around here. I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for in terms of rims, but you do bring up a good point about the OEM wheels, I think I might just go that route, although the the '99 Legacy GT wheels are super cool too.
Friend with the GSR really fucked it. Dont know whats exactly wrong with it at the moment, but hes lucky I strapped him home. Going to do my first engine teardown tomorrow probably because of this.

Well the concept isn't gonna fly into production with those tiny strips for headlights... and the fact that there's no wheels except for 1/4 of the front one, the car fades into a black hole, and I can't see through the windshield. I'll bet you can't even load an 8' 2x4 into it. Thanks Nissan, but I'll pass. 0/10.
So took some time to tune my carb today one mixture screw was cranked all the way in the other was just barely open so explains why it seemed starved for fuel accelerator pump doesnt work at all so Ill need to figure out what its going to be to replace that.

Drove a Nissan GTR yesterday, oh my god it was my dream come true. Also, has anyone here had any experience with a Mercedes a45 AMG? I think I'm in love, close to 400 bhp in a hatchback stock is pretty mad imo

The accelerator pup is just a diaphragm and a spring. Don't lose the spring because the kit doesn't come with a new one. It's really really easy to repair an accelerator pump. In fact - I recommend you rebuild the whole carb just so you can learn what's going on. $20.00 for a kit, get yourself setup on a nice clean table, and in an hour you'll be done.
... did that just bend the block? [editline]13th September 2015[/editline] and punch a hole in it?
I think the detonation of the rod warped the crank case and ruptured through the oil pan. Hey, wait, blowing up a perfectly good new-to-me engine is my 3.5's specialty, you thief!
So about a day or so ago I was taking a trip to a friends house about 30 mins north of me and decided "hey, I think I'll use my cruise, havn't done that in awhile." Click set ... What? Nothing, the cruise light in the dash would not come on. I know the system worked because I had of course used it before. So last night I dove into fixing the issue. Checked the actuator, vacuum lines, fuses and cable and all checked out. Next step was hitting the wiring with a multimeter. Unplug 14 pin connector from cruise module under dash, bend in weird ways to get to it and away we go. Black: Ground is solid. Light green: Has power in key on and main switch on. Light green and black:Has power when resume pushed Light green and red: has power when set pushed Pink: Has continuity when in 2, D3 and D4 and none in any other position Orange: No test needed as the speedo works (ign and main switch on, didn't want to jack up a wheel and spin it to look for volts between orange and ground, +/- 5 volt or more if spun faster) Grey: Ign on, main on. Volttage when brake not pressed and volts when is pushed Green white:(tested last) 12v pressed, 0v released is whats needed. Blue Black:(untested, known to work. Ign on, ground to make cruise light illuminate) Brown white, brown, black and brown all checked at actuator and cruise plug, all check out. (brown white:80 - 120ohm, brown black:70 - 110ohm, brown:40 - 60ohm) So, I decided to for some reason check the Green and white wire last and being it's the brakes I later had an idea of why my cruise wasn't working. When I pressed the pedal there was 12v, but when released there was 5v... "What? the fuck is there 5v volts here?" I thought, so I went to the back and unplugged the whole pigtail for the rear lights. Volts drop to 0, plugged back in and HEY, 5v again. After some more hunting I found that it was the DIODE in the brake light out circuit that failed and was leaking voltage into the cruise control computer. I de-pinned the white/green strip wire from the little box and presto, 0 volts and I still have brake lights! Took a little drive and cruise works again. Consider this a story and write up on what to test if you've got a honda and your cruise shit the bed.
Holy hell valon how do you even fuck something up that bad?
3000+ horsepower and 9000-10000 rpm can fuck shit up real good Suspected cause is the timing belt slipped off causing the piston to hit the valve, valve said "fuck you I aint movin" so the rod decided it'll take a stroll around the block since it didnt want to deal with valves shit (it literally shot the rod cap outside the block, I didnt grab a pic but the hole is huge) So with one rod outta there the other 2 thought i'd be cool to go visit Mr. Oilpan and fuck Ms. Crankshafts day up Likely need 2 sleeves, send the block to get fixed, another $4000 crank, $1300 in rods, $1000 in pistons, likely more when the heads get pulled. $15000 hit likely. I don't know what he's gonna do, we need a new garage, the race car has been taking up too much money.
