You guys saying I should reconsider getting one of those, then?
As long as you know what you're getting into, you will be fine. A 10+ year old German car will need $1000 of maintenance per year and a $500 minimum breakdown fund. Also understand that an 8 Series is not a commuter car, and will not put up with being treated as one. But if you treat it right, buy only OEM/BMW Branded Parts, do the services required right at their required intervals, and change oil frequently, you will really enjoy the car. Parts support also shouldn't be too bad, the Germans are really good about keeping parts for older rides in stock, and sometimes they will redesign parts for older cars (see Mercedes 722.3 vacuum modulators). I've owned a 1986 Mercedes S-Class for 2 years now, and I am speaking from experience. These are not the everyday use kind of cars....but they are lovely to drive. Speaking of that Benz, my odometer broke this morning at 178278.7 miles :C
The speakers in my 02 WRX are actually really good. The ones that were in my obs... sounded like they were from a 60s car. Also, my purge solenoid went out again. So now every time I fill the tank, the car lopes like a dragster from being drowned in fuel because the fucking thing is stuck open, filling the intake with fumes from the tank. Oh, and low rpm hesitation all the time. It's funny though, my AFR is normal despite the hesitation from gas fumes making it rich as fuck.
Got my door completely on my car except for a few small issues. The locking actuator(?) is a different connector than the lesabres so I might have to splice wires if I want to open the door from the drivers side/key fob. Also the door hangs too low, so when it's closed it has to be picked up and slammed. But hey the window works!!!
First time car suggestions (UK)? Stay away from the generic stuff young people get as it'll be a bomb on insurance. Go for something a bit different, if you look you can find some decent stuff.
Stay away from the generic stuff young people get as it'll be a bomb on insurance. Generally, if you see a car you find just go on go compare or something, shove the reg number in and a few details and you'll get a rough estimate of what your insurance will end up costing. It's not absolute, but it will give you a rough idea of whats cheaper and whats more expensive. And avoid telematics insurance like a plague, you WILL get fucked over
Found an old pic of my Civic back when it had the white rims (and the red lug nuts was still red!) Man, seeing this pic makes me a bit sad that I have to sell it soon. [t]http://i.imgur.com/8MCQYve.jpg[/t]

The ones you have may be worn and thats why you have to lift up. Theres also a fair amount of adjustment in a door. Just take the fender off and spend some time alligning it. Theres no need to splice either, just get the wire colors from the chart diagram of both cars, and put the wiring in the other connector. All the pins should come out.

[t]http://i.imgur.com/4o8Qw2b.jpg[/t] 120 bucks on a new radiator or be a Mr Krabs was my third attempt to seal the hole. I originally tried just pushing it through hoping it would work but cutting the top support worked out quite well I reckon. I still had to semi-take the radiator out, it's supposed to sit under the white piece of frame in the top left. If it lasts longer than a month then I will be pretty happy :joy:
Was the Acura ITR a real thing in the US?
I finally found the next car I want, and I will scour the whole planet till I find one: [t]http://static.cargurus.com/images/site/2011/10/18/14/09/1992_bmw_8_series_850i-pic-7639971163538027684.jpeg[/t]
I got to drive one for a few minutes, pretty cool car. The Z8 is awesome too, and it takes off as soon as you let off the clutch a bit. I miss but don't miss my BMW days
Was the Acura ITR a real thing in the US?
Acura Integra Type-R, yes. ITR stands for Integra Type-R but nothing with the model name ITR or anything like that. CTR stands for Civic Type-R of course as well.
I just got to have a spin in an Mercedes-Benz AMG GTS (that is I got to sit in the passenger seat while the owner drove it.) It was hella dope.:joy: I got some images/video, I'll put those up later; internet's down and I can't go over my mobile usage.

Anyway there are of course a lot of fake special edition Hondas out there, and I'm obviously rusty on my Honda trivia, so I was skeptical to share this car I see in the town I work: [t]http://i.imgur.com/nny6i4l.jpg[/t] It's super clean, stock as the eye can see, lookin like it just rolled out of Gran Turismo 4. It's street parked every day and has a bike rack on the back. As long as I'm sharing pictures from work: [t]http://i.imgur.com/zM7OsOx.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/WRAi3Wv.jpg[/t]

No sunroof, no side moldings, 5 lug suspension with the 5 lug ITR wheels, painted sideskirts with the OEM optional lip. There would also be a 3rd brakelight in the rear hatch window like a RS/LS/ITR unlike the GS/GSR which have a brake light in the spoiler without in the window mount one. Owner is absolutely crazy to street park it, in most areas in California ITR's will be stolen from padlocked garages, with the car disabled using a flatbed tow truck even.
Alright so I'm thinking sometime in the near future of buying an old 3 series BMW and doing an engine swap, making it a roadworthy but really powerful car, but I'm pretty new to the engineering stuff and I don't have much experience at all because I'm young, does anyone have any experience on doing engine swaps with beamers? I'm in the UK so if anyone can recommend any good places to look or what engine is ideal for this sort of thing that would be great! as I said, this will probably be starting around christmas time as I need to save up for the BMW which shouldn't be much second hand if its old and the engine is nearly dead anyway. I know this probably gets asked a lot by people who are as noob-ey as me but it'd be cool to have a nice car that looks like an old m3 or something.
Well, why are you swapping it? What are you aiming for? Do you want a SBC, a BMW engine, jz? I'd also look up how to get it street legal before starting anything, here any modifications have to be approved before any work can begin, and then it needs to be checked afterwards.

Which reminds me I wish I had a garage, some guy is changing his project. 3000nok, which would be reimbursed if given to a wrecker, with three engines and gearboxes.

I'm not sure, what would the difference between them be? I'll definitely do that, I'm not sure of the legalities here in the UK. a chevy small block would be so cool though if that is legal, saw a drag car with a big block the other day with one of those Another reason I picked a BMW is also that it's rear wheel drive
Well, if you just want an engine with lower mileage, it becomes slightly easier. Just find your car, fingd out which transmission it has, and then what engines fit that transmission (hopefully also fit that car), and go scouring the web. Doing a straight swap with an engine from the same model should make it easier to get it registered and insured.
Well, projects like that are why insurance is brutal over there if you ask me, and somebody with little mechanical know-how has very little business being in an engine bay, much less swapping out an entire block

This isn't going to happen if you don't know how and can't afford to swap an engine, probably switch the entire drivetrain and all your brakes.
alright man well thanks for the help anyways guys
if you buy an old m20 powered e30 with motronic 1.3 the m30b35 is a nearly direct swap, just need exhaust and the driveshaft. good for 211-218hp depending on where you're from, and boatloads of torque.
Still need to finish touch up paint but I did the one spot near the taillights, and installed the new led ones [t]http://i.imgur.com/y7AT0NQ.jpg[/t]
