Also I need that charger PPV. For reasons.
They sell for 4-8K in Missouri. ;) Usually with about <90K miles.
Can't get any decent 4wd tyres for under 500 bux. Sad Day. On the other hand, got my Class 2 yesterday, the teacher was fantastic, an old guy with over 20 years Truckin'. Gotta wait 6 months for class 4 though.
I am? Whatchu need?
Dont need anything, just wanted to know if he was done with the depression stuff
Currently shopping for a new daily that will get me through 100mi/day trips and I happened to find this: http://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/cto/5112135166.html Opinions? I know some of you guys are big into the old Mercs and from what I understand they're pretty bulletproof but I'd like other opinions.

My personal opinion: If you are looking for fuel efficiency, dont buy a 70s/80s vehicle. 90s hondas are the way to go

The tradeoff of having a RWD/AWD car with lower mpg is very worth it to lose FWD, unless you are someone totally uninterested in cars. The fact that he posts an old Merc makes me think he has an interest in cars and does not want a boring, 90's, FWD Honda.
No emissions in SD effectively no regulation on cars air is clean as fuck Your move, CA
I saw a stanced M3 try to cut off a semi truck and fail spectacularly today. It was pretty damn great, spun it around into a ditch and then the guy came out and started sprinting at the semi truck which was still slowing to a safe stop shaking his fists at it.

Get the merc as a non commuter. If I had to drive 100 miles a day I would be trying to do it as cheaply and reliably as possible.

Nearly turned into the wrong lane, straight into a Ford Raptor. Luckily she swerved right at the last second, but she was blaring on her horn as she did it.

Getting onto the interstate will be a "fun" experience. The only bulletproof part of old diesel Mercs is the drivetrain. Everything else is fair game. That one looks like a good deal but frankly I would personally stick to something a bit more modern (>1990) even if it's boring, AKA the Honda Accord.
I would be more concerned with comfort than fuel economy. something with good nvh. good fuel economy would be a bonus
Not solely of course, but emissions reduction has helped a lot.
No it really hasn't, the government basically ran a crusade against any consumer owned products which contributed to poor air quality while completely slaughtering commercial emissions. By enforcing emissions laws you help get older vehicles off the road and sell newer vehicles while your prime motive of putting the blame of poor air quality on each individual when 90% of smog even in insanely populated areas is purely commercial/industrial. Simply mandating some basic emissions equipment like PCV and catalytic converters you've already cut vehicle emissions by 95%. Passenger cars aren't going to be the primary sources of emissions either as fleet/commercial large vehicles racking up millions of miles aren't going to compare to your daily commute. If emissions standards on passenger vehicles never existed you wouldn't notice a damn thing and it wouldn't affect anything at all, one dirty plant in China produces more pollutants than every passenger vehicle in most states.
Then you're generally stuck with FWD. The tradeoff of having a RWD/AWD car with lower mpg is very worth it to lose FWD, unless you are someone totally uninterested in cars. There's nothing wrong with FWD either if it's not in a shitty car, Hondas are by far usually the best examples of FWD cars that aren't terrible. You really need an LSD, equal length axles and a decent suspension setup with decent front and rear swaybars to show off all what FWD can do which Civics have none of those. The suspension though is easy to sort and I spent $80 on front/rear swaybars, lcas, shocks and $220 on Eibach springs which were a personal choice. EF/EG Civics insanely rival Miatas in performance on a budget and for a car you intend to drive daily I'd never imagine picking anything but a Civic being that it just all around better at being a car other than being RWD. With some extremely cheap upgrades from the junkyard and a little luck on finding them you'll have a stupid good, fun car. Not only that but it can get 45mpg without trying, costs about $1500, comes apart with basic tools, replacement drivetrains are everywhere and insurance is cheap. Trying to find a good Honda, let alone a good car that's not new on the east coast is near impossible though. http://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/cto/5142754912.html http://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/cto/5145359304.html Literally impossible, here's the next best I found which has a bad title and no motor :v: http://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/cto/5118728225.html I suggest buying on ebay or something silly and having it shipped, you could find something nicer for $2000 and pay $600 to have it shipped from the west coast and have a better car than you could buy where you live for $5000.
Put in a long day working a on friend's Urabus. New paint on the front bumper to correct rock chips, hood to correct some chips and a little damage to the front, and paint match some interior pieces that the previous owners spray painted black. Is there any kind of performance community for the LS400? I've always wanted one and they're stupid cheap around here.
Is there any kind of performance community for the LS400? I've always wanted one and they're stupid cheap around here.
I think there's a bit more of a "tuning" community now that they are super cheap and in great condition usually. I don't think there's a lot of "performance" tuning but honestly they already make decent power and people most likely aren't going to make crazy builds with forged internals and boost with them. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-1st-and-2nd-gen-1990-2000/715136-another-5spd-swap.html That's the extent that I know. Although a luxury car that's has some suspension mods to stiffen it, sounds amazing out the back and has a nice V8 in the front sounds pretty great to me.

Get one that hasn't done too many km, however. I just spent an absurd sum of money on mine because of worn parts (hydropneumatic shock absorbers, radiator, a-arms, bushings, all the expensive stuff). The engine will never wear out if it's a diesel but they are so slow bugs will hit your rear windshield even at top speed. You can't overtake anyone at any speed either (maybe a tractor? I once tried with my 2 liter and I nearly got myself killed in the process). [t]http://i.imgur.com/wpWJJ3X.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/ww82IBc.jpg[/t] You could always look for an estate, they're becoming really rare and they seem to shoot up in value atm.
I opened the hood of my car today. I can safely say that the only thing I recognize is the engine, wiper storage and the cap for something related with coolant. I have no idea what anything else is. Although I did pull out the dipstick, I think.
it's not 'missing a dash panel' it's been lightened it's all in how you sell it to yourself, now it's faster
The retarded thing is that the missing panel you see is actually 5 individual pieces. I didn't take a picture, but I found every panel and mounted them except the panel by the gear shifter, so it looks pretty decent now. Edit: These are all the pieces the dash is made up from
late but meh '85 F150 XLT locking hubs are a bit gravelly? I need to clean em out but they're stock and when they die I'm either going to warn premiums or ARB air lockers if I get the time clutch has not surprisingly slipped since I got it (a clutch meant for a stock 302 in a 450+ HP 414Ci environment) but it's still holding probably going to a McLeod super street pro when I get time there's a clunk sometimes in the driveline somewhere I think it's the slip yoke or U-joint smacked it pretty good off a log a few weeks back it's ridiculously loud with an aggressive cam profile hooker headers and glass packs dumped behind the front wheels. I like it my neighbors probably not so much currently using 5/16th" log chain as limiting straps on the front it rattles like a mofo and probably isn't the best option but it works for now pinholes in both floor pans planning on dropping in a cage at some point that'll get fixed then the bench seat is pretty much just springs at this point body has seen more than it's fair share of trees/bushes/shrubs/rocks/logs/cliffs needs more than a little bodywork one of the welds on the rear bumper needs redone '73 jeep CJ-5 carb needs cleaned after tuning it runs better but it's still rough fuel tank could probably use replacement it's old and metal comes with the territory floor pans need redone whoever had it last would of been better off if a monkey did the welds clutch linkage is iffy dash wiring is a fuster cluck whoever had it last REALLY REALLY liked bondo the body is covered in the shit tires rub sometimes could use about 1-1 1/2" more lift rollbar wasn't reinstalled right it's missing 2 bolts on each side going to a 6 point cage so not too worrying front and rear bumper welds would of been better off with Mr. Monkey at the helm could use new shocks that'll be done when we figure out the final lift height

Someone gave my 09 TSX a lovetap while it was parked, scuffing the fuck out of the front bumper and that thing was in perfect condition, interior and out. damn.
It's a preference, every FWD car I've driven, which is a bunch, I've really not liked
If it doesn't have a rear swaybar, the stock springs can be compressed by hand, the tires on it are less than 5" wide and it doesn't at least have equal length axles with a manual transmission it really won't be that fun. Unless you're just beating on it which is always fun still. Also anything above 2600lbs with less than 150hp is usually pretty boring. Usually the cars are setup for miles of vague understeer and end up with even more understeer due to unequal length axles and open diffs which cause tons of tire spin under power while cornering. Unless the rear bar is at least almost half the size of the front bar, it really isn't enough to be happy with. Not to mention more basic macpherson platforms just don't feel snappy and have that wonderful turn in that double wishbone or more performance orientated suspension has. The newer FWD car platforms are also quite fat and numb, newer cars just don't have the same steering feel that a platform which was also designed with a non-power option often did. Don't blame electric power steering either because both the NSX and S2000 had it and you won't ever find someone complain about the steering in either of those cars.
Replaced the top gearbox mount today. Feels like a new car. lol
