I don't know why people are comparing it to amnesia, this looks much like the original movies.
In terms of gameplay and style. In the sense that you're defenseless, trying to evade and hide from a pursuer that will kill the shit out of you if it gets you, and you have to solve puzzles and avoid hazards all the while.
Looks really good, I just hope it's not short. I wanna get at the very least 8 hours from my play through.
yo im pretty sure the alien was able to sniff out people in the movies especially if they were hiding under a table
Maybe this one had a cold?
Maybe this one had a cold?
Explains all the snotty stuff that they like to pass off as saliva.
Imagine if they made a vaporub commercial with aliens. :v:
To me it looked un-replayably-linear.
They could have used the same person's footage and just switched the live view and it would have been identical

And when the torch-thing lights up in the center of that one dark room. Light flashes and super-loud screaming is heard.
Don't get on the hype train to early. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/03/23/preview-alien-isolation-horror-game/

That not hard to do to be honest.

My general consensus
'My what most people agree upon'
That not hard to do to be honest.
I know a lot of people will disagree, but one of the things I like about this the most is the whole art direction they seem to be taking with this.
I don't know, but judging by this

it seems to me that they're taking the whole art style quite seriously (which is good, because this kind of makes me want to see a Blade Runner Universe created with this kind of attention to detail), while also running dangerously close to this:

My general consensus is that, it's what I feared. Another Amnesia clone, in outer space. The game doesn't have tense moments. It has shock scares. Loud noises creating a tense atmosphere has been done so much, that anyone who has played video games before. I think most have become accustomed to this type of game. After watching all of the video, regretfully watching all of the peoples idiotic reactions, I must say that .. I don't think this is going to be all that great of an Alien game.
I mean, it won't/can't be worse than Colonial Marines. It does look rather nice, graphically, and they have all of the atmosphere going for them. Just the gameplay, doesn't seem all that different from what we're used to seeing in these types of games. You hide in a locker for awhile(even though the Alien has saw you), and your woes disappear? Come on. This crap has to stop. The original Alien was fucking smart, it adapted, it familiarized itself with the ship, and decimated the crew except for Ripley. Yet in this game, it seems like your average joe horror creature.
"Huh.. The thing I just saw in front of me, 2 seconds, disappeared!" Lockers are all around it "I wonder where they went..."
Though, I do have to admit. They did a good job making the Alien sound very threatening, and the death animations look well done.
Maybe the alien infected a mentally retarded person, and the genes fucked up the aliens brain

So...just like the original Alien? In case it wasn't obvious, Amnesia was very much inspired by Alien. (Defenseless, trapped in a labyrinth-like area, darkness everywhere)

Yes, its hipster to be trying to be as accurate, true, and authentic to the original film as possible, okay.
Though the rest of the game may be entirely playable, I wish this part weren't so scripted. I don't like that everyone hides in the same locker and behind the same desk, that the Xenomorph can't hear or smell humans five feet from it, or that you always stumble into the airlock and close it at the last second.
It would be scarier if there was a sense of player agency, where if you get in a situation wherein you're really fucked, it's your fault instead of the writers'.
There's a lot they can do with what they have, though. You could have a vent crawl, wherein your detector picks several things up, but it turns out to be vermin or something. Or you could pass by a magnet halfway through the game and your motion detector breaks. The guy on the intercom could just die on you.
I guess the biggest problem I have right now is that the Alien doesn't seem to move by any sort of pathfinding. It doesn't look like it's searching for people to rape and kill. It's just another monster you hide from until it walks out of the room.
If nothing else this will be a hell of a fun game to play with a bunch of people in the dark.
Say what you will about Amnesia, Outlast, etc. But some of the most fun I've had in college so far is turning off all the lights in a room of like 10 people and having one guy play Outlast while we all shit ourselves and scream at him to stop fucking up.
This video is basically exactly like the Outlast one and they overreacted on the Outlast one so badly.

Wait shit, I just realized "Did not finish" and "Duke Nukem Forever" have the same acronym

To be fair IGN isn't bad when it comes to their videos. I love Top 10 and most of their previews are cool shit.
Their reporting and whatnot isn't great, no, but I keep away from the actual site and just stay on their channel.
And the scripted press demo would be more of the call of Sega than it would be IGN.
yo im pretty sure the alien was able to sniff out people in the movies especially if they were hiding under a table
Well, this is an alien with downs syndrome.
Not a fan of the locker mechanic and bad AI involving the lockers.
This looks better visually, but Routine looks like a much better game imo.

that's my biggest problem with this video though- it was a scripted short for sake of making sure all the press they send it to experience the same compressed representation of the game experience and don't fuck up. The problem is, IGN HAS FUCKED IT UP by playing the same things side by side over and over. I've never seen something run into the ground quite so efficiently as they do with a scary moment, playing the same audio file from a jump scare five times over in a short span. UAAAA-UAAAA-UAAAA UAAAA-UAAAA-UAAAA. You as the viewer don't even have time to think "ahaha, that got them good" before you're just annoyed that they all walked face first into the same blatant trap. It's disillusioning not on the part of the game's presentation NEARLY as much as it was in the way it was presented by IGN like some cheap comedy montage of victims on the Scare Tactics TV show
fucking Creative Assembly. this game is made by the same company that completely botched the fuck out of Rome 2 after basically lying to their entire fanbase with unprecedented marketing hype.
as far as I'm concerned I have absolutely no reason to believe the people making this game are competent in any way, shape, or form.
