I don't see why anyone thinks Joel Mchale is a douche in this, he destroyed the beast that is Spike's VG awards from within.
He deserves a medal.

A lot of people are just butthurt because he made a few slightly offensive nerd jokes.
They are missing the point. That's Joel's job. When he hosts The Soup, most of the audience are the very same people who watched the shit he criticizes, and he typically pokes fun at the audience.
It's a just a bit of a "learn to laugh at yourself" scenario and he made a lot of great jabs at Geoff and how shitty this whole thing was.
Geoff Keighley did write that book about Portal 2 which was pretty great so I don't know
Geoff deserved it.
Keighley is actually a corrupted jackass who is essentially giving coverage on whatever pays off the most, and he never hid from that fact.
A huge portion of the video game journalism community consider him a soulless hack that sucks the dick of whatever company will prove the most favorable in return and who will gladly sell out at any occasion.
[editline]8th December 2013[/editline]
The thing is, Keighley is known for being really, REALLY pretentious and condescending. There was this one incident a while ago where Angry Joe asked a legitimate question and Keighley pretty much just told him to shut the fuck up and leave, while getting a wave of hypocritical, forced laughter from the audience who had to either agree with him or leave too.
It was only a matter of time before Keighley met someone who was ready to just bash his ego in and made fun of who he actually is.
You're pretty much just giving a one sided negative opinion of Keighley, you realize that, right? He's simply a businessman, he does what he's paid to, as everyone else. That doesn't make him soulless, he just has rules to abide by because he is a professional whatchamacallit. I would love to see this Angry Joe clip, because it seems like it could've simply been a joke, and the only reason you think it's a terrible travesty is because of how biased you are against Geoff

The reason people are biased against Geoff is because he's journalist, and as such should be expected to maintain a certain level of integrity, which he has shown to not have, at all.
One would expect a journalist to have the common sense to distance themselves from corporate sponsored events, in a way that wont affect their opinion, of the company, and consequently any products they might be releasing.
It's not something against Geoff in particular it's that he serves as a perfect example of what a bunch of shills journalists have become, happily going to sponsored events and doing promotional gigs with companies, and then giving critiques of their products.
If that doesn't raise a few eyebrows, then I really can't help you
Geoff wasn't so bad before he got the name Doritos Pope. He really wasn't. It all went downhill for him after he gave that stupid interview.
God damn I love Joel McHale.
He didn't even come off as agressive as I thought he would, he was just infinitely more confident and he knew exactly what buttons to press.

This is the angry joe thingy
It certainly wasn't a joke, Geoff used some pretty shitty tactics there.
why the fuck was geoff wearing like 6 shirts at once
Geoff is an asshat and the only good thing about this year VGA's is how Joel made fun of him and gave 0 shits about the script.
You're pretty much just giving a one sided negative opinion of Keighley, you realize that, right?
Wow no shit, do you expect me to write an entire essay on the public opinion on Keighley or something

He calls himself a journalist yet is nothing more than a living, talking advertisement. He's not a businessman who does what he's paid for, he's a corrupted journalist with no objectivity who still pretends to have integrity.
This isn't being professional, this is being a sell-out. It only adds insult to injury that among being an unprofessional corporate cocksucker he is also a complete tool and an asshat.

Again, no shit I'm biased against Geoff, that's called having an opinion, if I liked Geoff in any way I wouldn't have brought up how terrible he is.

Honestly, this is also pretty one-sided. Joe was probably put on the backburner because of how much shit Geoff probably has to do for the show in his position. He has all these celebrities, skits, and mini-events inside of this huge event to coordinate; I don't think a YouTuber ranks high on the priority list for obvious reasons.
I'm not saying the way Geoff handled the interview wasn't disrespectful. He really should've simply rejected Joe's request for a lengthy, sit-down interview (if who Joe was talking to via email was even Geoff himself) though again Joe could have simply gotten lost in the heaps of other people Geoff had to respond to. However, Geoff still conducted himself professionally and I didn't see anything in there that would constitute a "shut the fuck up and leave" like Ganerumo said.
The questions Joe managed to ask were kind of lame and minor anyway aside from the music thing. I don't know why he kept repeating the PC question even though he was clearly told that the PC category did exist that year. Geoff's answers weren't even asshole-ish and he even said he'd consider the fighting game bout suggestion. What answers did Joe expect?

Damn joe got played hard. But he had a second chance to ask the hardball questions and still wasn't ready.

What if the disk was soaked in mountain dew and then stretched accidentally with doritos

Ah yes, a snackfood that'll make you feel nauseous after a while of eating, and horse urine in a plastic bottle.

tbh pretty much all the "gaming journalism" that airs on TV, and probably a fair bit that's printed in the big-name magazines is a joke in general.
They throw around their 10/10s like candy to any AAA developer with a dollar to spare, and serve the purpose of advertising more than anything. Generally the only opinions you can ever trust when it comes to game reviews are the opinions that are offered for free. I would get more valuable advice from a /v/ thread than I would from IGN or the VGAs.

Still questions like "How much money you made?" "What did you do with all the money?" and "Where you high when you made this?" don't sound like jokes but straight unprofessional questions.

that's the point
[editline]9th December 2013[/editline]
he was unprofessional because this whole show is a sham
When he kept to script, it was fucking awful. Just a load of old 'gamers and antisocial and don't know what a girl is' shit.
Off script he was amazing.
I don't get why Joel was there, considering Geoff is the executive producer, I mean you'd think he'd look into him beforehand, guy was absolutely mortified

What would you do with it?
I heard Geoff give a really loud sigh just as it faded to black and going to a commercial on a stream
Oh my god Geoff's wikipedia page specifically mentions him being called the Doritos Pope.
i read the title as "doritos bag gets ripped apart by pope".
