they should get out of the burning ship while they can
It think it'd be healthier if they did their own thing.
Give our American brothers and sisters the right to have representation in congress! Liberty for Puerto Rico! Not to mention we could totally go ham on the flag design, and make some cool stuff. it's like asking if you want to join the Jim Jones cult at this point

I have Puerto Rican relatives and they truly need serious assistance and rights just like normal Americans. They're already citizens to boot!
No, otherwise we'll need to invade canada to get another 49.
I think it would be great if they joined. Imagine the new economic and cultural opportunities that would open up. Not to mention how historic this would be since we haven't had a new state since 1959.
No, otherwise we'll need to invade Canada to get another 49.
Did you know there ten provinces and three territories in Canada? And combine them all would be 60 states with additional 3 will likely convert into Commonwealths in US terms. Can we drop Florida then so we keep at 50?

It's up to puerto rico really and I don't exactly care either way. They'll be best off either joining or remaining as they are. They can also pursue independence but it's not really worth it, especially with their massive debt problem meaning foreign countries and creditors might not be interested in touching them.
these are all fucking hideous holy shit
[t]http://a.abcnews.com/images/ABC_Univision/reddit_flags_best_wmain.jpg[/t] This one looks passable. All the other ones are trying to fit complex round patterns into square blue shapes, and they look terrible because they don't border nicely at all. I mean look how poorly this shape fits into the blue rectangle. [t]http://a.abcnews.com/images/ABC_Univision/reddit_flags_FlagTrippyStar_wmain.jpg[/t] It's not even centered.

But it is on the right course that if you want the 51-star flag to stand out while looking good you'll need a radical redesign. But I doubt it's going to happen, people like the stars and stripes.
Hell I wouldn't mind it. Been a supporter of it since it was first put on the table
I've read a history book of Puerto Rico from the start of Spanish colonization to the early 2000s, written by a Puerto Rican professor in a university in PR. Everything I read about the island is completely opposite of this narrative in the video that PR has been rebellious throughout its history. It's funny that they mention the assassination attempt on Truman, which was essentially a lonewolf attack but didn't mention how PR attempted to have their own independence revolution in the 1860s (that was quickly crushed by the Spanish governor and through the revolutionary's own incompetence). During the reign of the Spanish Empire, it was considered one of the most backwater parts of the entire colonial empire, with Spanish garrisons rather drawing straws to who would have to be stationed there rather than hope to be sent.
Can we drop Florida then so we keep at 50?
Why did I even move to this stupid state if I'm just gonna get bullied by the internet
Puerto Rican voters wanted statehood in the 2012 referendum but I bet if they managed to get their local economy and debt crisis under control they'd go back to being disinterested about it
Nah, They throw that logic out window to think joining the United States is "ultimate" answer to facing Puerto Rican economic problems without thinking consequences. And what else reason why they do this in from last five years.
Why did I even move to this stupid state if I'm just gonna get bullied by the internet
As someone who was born here and has yet to flee, I too must wonder why you moved to this stupid state.
