Compared to other browsers like Chrome, Opera or Firefox, it's pretty bad.
IE 9 isn't that bad. But it doesn't have the add-ons I want, like Ad-Block or Greasemonkey. Which is why I stick with Firefox/Chrome.
What if you use a lot of different machines and you like a familiar interface? It doesn't make it better or worse, but it gives a reason why you would avoid it.
fair, but rating it purely based on that is like rating video games purely based on what consoles they run on, or how many surfaces a certain marker can write on. It makes literally no sense to do that what so ever. Most people have mainly one platform anyways. not only that, but just because it can run everything, doesn't mean it'll be better on everything.
I use chrome, because I like the layout, and it's slimed down and quite fast, I may change to opra though looking at those tests.
IE is terrible long live to firefox folks!
IE9 and IE10 are decent. The rest suck. Microsoft's Internet Explorer Development Team has really buckled down and started to make it decent. Starting with IE8 they started to add web standards and heavy security. IE8 was, at the time, one of the most secure browser there is. I think only Chrome as better then (now too). Then in the development process of IE9 they started really focusing on web standards, HTML5, JavaScript, hardware acceleration, general performance, security again, and the UI. They even managed to make it much more lightweight than previous versions. With IE9, they're neck and neck with the competition in terms of speed and security, with at some points being better than the competition (not sure if it's still true, though I doubt it considering the dev cycles of the others). It gets 100/100 on the Acid tests for the first time, and things are rendered almost as they should be (the parts that aren't do so in IE10). Microsoft really brought IE back to a modern browser state, however its name will unfortunately always be its scar. Now I won't say it's perfect, its lack of UI customization and lack of a rich addons gallery (though personally I don't care about this one as I don't use addons myself) put it a step behind the competition. I won't switch from Chrome to IE anytime in the foreseeable future since there's nothing in IE to really justify it, however I won't be one of those thrashing fanboys who claim whatever they use is instantly better just because they use it. I give props to MS for making IE a modern day browser and making it decent for the first time in its history. But all-in-all, it might not beat the competition, but it's as good as. And praise doesn't get much higher than that.
I use IE because it is what I'm used to. I used it when it was on windows 97 or whatever and I'll keep using it now. I don't need billions of add-ons, I just need something that allows me to use the internet, which IE does quite well.
I don't bother thinking about the crapness of internet explorer, I have better things to do in life. I accept that I have to use IE on a day to day basis, but when I get home, I get to go on firefox and feel happy. I am like most people that use firefox, I only ever use internet explorer for one purpose; to download firefox. I suppose I prefer firefox for a few reasons, many of which have been mentioned already, like actually being able to select text properly, and others like just generally being quite configurable. I've learned to live with internet explorer, and I think some of you people should to.
Heapr doesn't let you use Internet Explorer any more, even though before it redirects you you can clearly see the results being displayed, so he only did it to be awkward.
It isn't that bad anymore, it's just that the other major choices are just heaps better. There's really no point in using IE.
Depends what enviroment you are running in, ie9 is pretty good in alot of ways but still can't keep up with home users to keep them safe. In a work enviroment ie9 is a godsend you can really tweak it with GPO alot
It sucks, not as bad as Safari but it sucks.
I have found that IE is much faster and more efficient when it comes to downloading other browsers.
Windows GNU/Linux BSD Mac OS X iOS Android Windows Phone 7 It runs on 2/7 of those OSes. So yes.
So Chrome is bad too?
Instead of another "it sucks" post here are the reasons why IE actually sucks... IE9 lacks HTML5 and CSS3 support. That's BIG in new web designs. Its the only browser to never fully support WC3 standards (even in IE9;so it runs its own made up html design). It also has one of the slowest POS Javascript engines there is, so new things like HTML5+Javascript+Canvas sites are slow and don't work. Most engine comparisons you find online are complete rubbish. I have seen "tests" done that say IE is better in every way, but all you have to do is open and compare to other sites and you quickly realize IE is a fat cow stuck in the mud, upside down. Not having proper W3C support means IE is the only browser to render stuff incorrectly, while every other browser (no matter the OS) looks the same. As a web developer i can not stand IE and how much of a POS it is. Microsoft thinks they can create the standard and do whatever they want while other browsers run WC3 standards (and/or quirks mode) and are far superior and have been 10+ years ahead of IE for sometime now. If you think IE is good and use it, get a clue, open your eyes, and welcome to the world. Get FireFox or Chrome. I personally perfer Chrome because of its start up speed and javascript engine speed (makes cool things like HTML5 fast, http://canvasrider.com/ for an example).
It's rubbish mate put another shrimp on the barbie
So Chrome is bad too?
chrome runs on every one of those platforms except the phone ones but that's because chrome is a _DESKTOP BROWSER_
chrome runs on every one of those platforms except the phone ones but that's because chrome is a _DESKTOP BROWSER_
From what I can gather, Android borrows some parts of Chrome, I think its the Javascript engine. I mean, its not full on Chrome, but its more than IE could hope for.
Of those, IE is the slowest; Well IE8 is. I'll look for a current IE graph....
It's pretty outdated alright. Firefox 7 is out and Opera made enormous progress since 9.6
Chrome > All. Chrome just does the trick, had IE8, then firefox and now I'm happily married with Chrome.
I'm a Chrome man myself. It makes sense for me, being a YouTuber with an Android phone and using GMail, to have everything sort of interconnected. I have Firefox on standby in case Chrome breaks, and I must say if FF has anything going for it it's (of all things) that you can fit more into your bookmarks bar. Chrome's bookmarks take up a great deal of space. Opera is also incredibly fast, moreso tahn Chrome, bt Chrome feels more natural to use. IE, while I'm assured is faster with version 9, has a long way to go to shake its reputation as "the browser you use to download other browsers". Particularly given how Windows 8 will come with two separate versions of IE10 for both "OSes" - it just smacks of careless coding.
i find Internet Explorer 9 is a big improvement than the other versions.
I use chrome now, I switched last week, but I still use IE for porn because I know it auto deletes my browsing history.
Yep; it's bad I use google chrome ( my sister has 11 years and she installs a lot of toolbars so IE is veeery slow)
I think its based on personal preference, for example I've used chrome since it had just come out

Seems to me you never actually read anything about IE9 and just assumed it was exactly the same as IE6. On March 8, 2011, Microsoft published results showing the 32-bit Internet Explorer 9 Final Release (using the current version of Chakra) to be faster than Safari, Firefox (with TraceMonkey), Chrome, and Opera. March 2011 performance tests for ZDNet concluded that Internet Explorer 9 (32-bit), Chrome 10, and Firefox 4 release candidate were "pretty evenly matched." Old result but still applies And it does fully support HTML5. There are some few things with CSS3 that cause things to be misaligned a few pixels, but have since been supported in IE10.
IE 9 / 10 are perfectly fine, it's just earned a bad reputation due to previous versions so now it's become cool to hate IE
IE has never been a bad browser, it's just the half life of every version that's the problem. If Microsoft started a rapid version cycle like Chrome, Opera & Firefox, then incorporated auto updating like Chrome, they could truly call their product GOOD (a re-brand would still be required to entice people in). IE 6, 7 & 8 are only bad because they're old. I'm sure older versions of all the major browsers suck today and that's why they're not used. Don't use old stuff, this applies to anything.
I just switched to Chrome from firefox and it is great. Just found out today I was using an AdBlock+ clone that couldn't block youtube ads though.
From my brief web dev job, yes. Yes it is. It's a whiney bitch that wants shit her own way, but everybody else smiles and slowly turns to the other girls in the room and ignores her.
