From a purely user point of view, I liked IE9. The interface is minimalist and clean and I find it generally quite agreeable. The messages appearing at the bottom of the screen as opposed to a dialogue box in the middle is a nice touch, and the download manager is something IE has needed for a fair while.
The only reason I'm currently using chrome is because IE9 seems to have incompatibilities with some websites and just won't load half of them, which is a pain in the arse.
As for the graphs... it does not matter to me two shits if IE9 is on average 28 milliseconds slower than Firefox. I don't notice it.
It's pretty outdated alright. Firefox 7 is out and Opera made enormous progress since 9.6
I've been on every FF since FF2 and I haven't noticed much of a speed increase in loading pages. It still takes a bit compared to chrome.
But then again, it might be my pc.
Also I actually use FF fulltime, chrome is my alt browser which I use right now.
For me, IE took forever to start up, slow in general, and GIF images where 4x slower. Ive been using Firefox for awhile now, and I'm still happy with it. I also like the add-ons FireFox supports like Ad Block and No Script. I have to admit though Youtube vids have been kinda slow latley, but I'm not sure if I should blame FireFox or my internet.
I'm also thinking about trying Chrome after reading this thread.
It is statistically slower.
But that has been said enough.
Yes.
I use Chrome whenever I can. I went and used IE on one of the computers at uni and it was so slow.
Then the other day one of my friends wanted to borrow my computer so I said use firefox as I have all my stuff signed in on it. It consequently froze and I had to shut down the 2 other windows that were running on my computer to get it to work. I only had Steam and Chrome running.
@hana-san I think that's more the case of the computers at your uni than anything to do with IE.
Honestly I'd actually like to see all those people who claim that IE9 and 10 suck to actually list the reasons as to why they believe so. In most cases they list reasons which were and are applicable as far as IE6 is concerned but which definitely don't apply anymore.

But it can run games like Portal while using Chrome and other games on steam. Even Minecraft, (just)
But it hates Firefox.
I hate IE because developing websites for it is a pain. Even for the new one. Instead of conforming to the standards it needs to do it in a different way.

I think that's one of the main reasons why some people just don't like IE. Their standards are totally different from other browsers, and I think they expect some of them to be eventually supported by them. IE 6 was terribad, and they (being microsoft) even made a countdown to the death of IE6. While the newer ones, IE9 and IE10, are much better with the standards, I think most of the hate for IE comes from its history.
also, I wanted to pull this post from before:
Lifehacker Browser Speed Test
This tested IE9, and guess what? Its in 3rd place just before chrome. I don't know how accurate it is but it seems legit...
Preference is also based on aesthetics, some people think IE looks cleaner than firefox or chrome.
I doubt the validity of that test. Some of the other things you have to consider is the OS (which includes 32/64 bit) and other programs running at the time, as well as the machine it's running on.
With IE9, Microsoft really buckled down and made it a worthwhile browser. It's okay for basic stuff and I wouldn't scoff at anyone who uses it, but it still doesn't hold up against, say, Firefox or Chrome.
That said, IE8 and below are garbage.
What everyone in this thread has completely forgotten is how IE shits all over W3C standards.
IE is a fucking nightmare for developers; It's both widely spread, comes pre-packaged and it's terrible at standards. It's getting better, but why use a closed, proprietary system when there are other, open versions that do more, better?
I just switched to Chrome from firefox and it is great.
Just found out today I was using an AdBlock+ clone that couldn't block youtube ads though.
ABP has its own addon
Firefox is said to use up more memory than Internet Explorer but for some odd reason my computer runs Firefox faster. Thinking about trying out chrome though. But yeah, Internet Explorer is a pretty bad browser compared to other things out there.

More memory usage does not mean it will run slower because if that memory is actually used right, it will run faster since it wont have to look up shit in HDD.
But right now my firefox is using 198mb while a single chrome executable is 212mb, then another one 53 and the last one 12, which in total is 270mb. More than FF. And I only have FP and wikipedia open in it.
Firefox is the faster browser I've used, but I just cannot get off of Chrome.
I occasionally use Firefox though.
Chrome is annoying when you start it up. It starts loading some page, I press esc to cancel, start typing what I want but then it starts to load something random and I have to retype my site again.
Why does it do that?
FF doesn't do this bullshit.
I know I'm just nitpicking, but it's so annoying.
Nope its not bad till you give a website your email and they Give you new york city speeding ticket emails and i never been to new york city and i scanned it and it set a Virus was in it so I deleted it.
Internet can be safe if Everyone stop being a troll and sending Virus off.
It is very bad.
No it can be Safe if trolls can get off the Internet Or stop being trolls completely.
But yes The internet is bad.
What is this, youtube leaking?
Stop mentioning trolls because it seems like you have no idea what a troll is.

They set viruses to make themselves feel better? Whoa that's something new
Also paying money to remove viruses? You are either a computer illiterate teen or a really old person. Which is what youtube is filled with.
What ever i dont care what you may think or say
PS: this is not youtube
Even on a fresh install IE is a laggy sluggish piece of shit.
So yes.
I've used IEs 5-9, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and Safari. I still can't find one I like.
So in my opinion, I think they are all shit.

Try Lynx.
I'm indifferent to Internet Explorer, but still prefer Firefox over all browsers.

Agreed. IE is okay, but it's lack of features/customisation/exploits (Which is bad considering how integrated IE is to the OS itself) is grating.
Terrible support for standards. IE9 helps, but it's too late, the damage has been done for me. There's no real reason for it to exist with FF, Chrome and Safari now

This is the most important issue for me, I don't care if it's faster. It's like being a really fast typist but you make mistakes everywhere.
Also tons of people still use IE6, since it's what XP comes with. It's a webdeveloper nightmare.
