Wasn't Microsoft stricken to take away IE and replace it with Firefox in Germany?
The most recent ones are okay, but there are better options.
IE9+ is acceptable, IE8 with Chrome Frame isn't bad

There's still 6 to 8 months before IE10 is finished though. I'm curious as to how IE9 compares.
To the people who say it's not compliant with standards, IE9 and IE10 are more compliant than you think. I've only seen one site ever fuck up in IE9 (the site didn't have an IE specific layout either, and it just had a few pixels of misalignment) and in IE10 it rendered fine.
People still make IE seem like it hasn't updated since IE6/7 but in reality IE9/10 are leaps and bounds ahead of them. It's not shit anymore, but the name will always be damaged.
And despite Peacekeeper benchmarks, IE still opens and loads a page faster than Firefox, Chrome and Opera for me and its performance is just fine never having any slow-downs or hiccups.
But in the end, Microsoft can make it as good as the competition, but that's not a reason to switch which is why I remain on Chrome.
firefox forever
firefox forever
Spectacular argument you've got there champ.
9 on is fine, the only reason I don't use it at this point is because I'm so used to firefox.
It isn't "as bad" as some others (I'm looking at you AOL!!!!) but it is pretty awful, too slow for me.
Something I don't like about IE is the lack of addon/scripts. The reason why I continue to use it over Firefox/Chrome is because in comparison it virtually never crashes.
Firefox suddenly closing and telling you to send an error report is an annoying inconvenience when web browsing, and so is loading a page on Chrome and getting "Aw Snap!". That is less inconvenient than a full crash as you can just refresh the page, yes, but it happens so damn often it isn't funny.

And I only ever used Firefox because that had 'tabs' when IE didn't, but now it does, so it's all good.
This might be just me, but the reason why I don't use Chrome is because of its lack of properties, by this I mean when I r-click on a image I can't find a properties option to check the file name, its dimension, URL, and I use this frequently because I browse the LMAO thread a lot. But if anyone knows how to do this do tell me.
Zone Alarm conflicts horribly with Internet Explorer and for some reason the log-in bar for Naviance wouldn't appear. When I switched to Chrome both those problems were fixed.
There are aspects to both IE and Firefox that I really like. I find firefox to be generally slower in the physical interaction, but it has the flexibility and modability that IE simply cannot match. I find that IE tends to do certain things more fluidly where Firefox is slower and wierder... Little things, you know? Like our photocopier at work - in the web interface, you have to manually delete all scanned items one at a time each week or month or whatever. In IE, you can just click delete and hit the enter key to confirm it as fast as you like, as IE just brings those confirmation dialogues up instantly. In Firefox, you have to click then wait almost half a second before hitting enter, and the page overall takes longer to refresh after doing so.
It's wierd little shitty things like that that make or break a browsing experience for me. I love that in Firefox I can block ads, stop scripts, remove items from a page, and generally customize my browsing experience in any way I see fit, but by comparison, I get a more speedy, efficient and generally less cluttered browsing experience out of IE.
So I just use both. IE for general forum browsing and such, and Firefox for work related things or if I'm needing to use certain websites a lot that have ads or boatloads of java / flash shit embedded in them. It all works out wonderful for me. My only annoyance is that every 15 minutes or so, both IE and Firefox will almost completely 'lock up' and hammer my HDD for a good 30 seconds or so. Does anyone know why this happens? It's done it since back when I first started using XP, so I can only assume it's some kind of built-in internal thing where they're organising cache files or moving data or fuck knows what. But it is pretty bloody annoying.
8/9 seem decent to me but I'll probably use FF again once I get my new PC all setup
I don't think IE is that bad. But compared to other browsers, IE is awful.
I wanted to create this debate because I wan't to know more about the perspectives that go against Internet Explorer. I myself use Internet Explorer 9 because I do not necessarily care about the browser I use, as long as it browses the web efficiently, then it is fine.ETC....
When some people think of IE, they think of the abomination that is IE6, a BANE to web designers everywhere due to how you were forced to make code specifically for IE6 if you wanted your page to show correctly, and how insecure it is.
In relation to other browsers, Chrome has a sub-process for each tab, restricting their access to your system more than IE does, which I believe is still one big process that gives programs more access , thus is why Chrome is gaining more and more traction, plus it is cross-platform and IMO, has a much sleeker interface and design.
IE is not "bad", just outdated to me compared to the other browsers out there.
IE9 is really fast and alright to use, though it does lack an adblock plugin and occasionally screws up the webpage rendering a bit. I always stick with chrome though; it's always been reliable for me.

use chrome, have the extensibility of firefox with the speed of IE9
Don't use IE because it can't be customized at all
Lately I've been using chrome a lot and compared to firefox, to me it feels so annoying.
One thing I find annoying is that each tab is a process. I know it's so if a tab crashes the entire browser doesn't, but when I have over 10 chrome.exe in my process list, that's annoying.
Another thing is that a single tab for no reason can grow up to 150mb in size. A single goddamn tab. Then there are other tabs of 70 or so mb. Why does it do that, especially on such a light site like a fp. And no, I'm not talking about image or video heavy threads.
Another thing is, sometimes if I switch tabs, there's a chance it will be white for a second or so. It probably dumps that tab to HDD to save ram, but that is annoying too. I'd rather it use 150mb on each tab than stare at the whiteness while it loads.
That's what I personally don't like in chrome. No I don't hate chrome or it's users, DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND.
IE9? It suffers from generally being slow and hungry on my system.

The RAM problem is Facepunch's problem. It's been known to use a lot of RAM probably because the of the sheer shitty, unoptimized code vBulletin spits out.

I also never have a tab go white
Oh no, an opinion in my mind.
That's why I don't like chrome, because it doesn't fit my needs.
I personally would never use anything other than Firefox Aurora. (Nightly is too unstable.) I use ABP, NoScript, FireBug, and LastPass, esentially making it the fastest, most customisable, and most secure browser there is. It is very reconfigurable and flexible, making it perfect for me, a hacker.

• Firefox doesn't compare to any other browser in terms of speed. IE9 and Opera are both faster than it.
• Firefox allows toolbars. Secure, haha.
• Hacker...heh
IE7 was the first truly awful IE
connecting...
IE is relatively slow if you have a mediocre computer, ie: school ones. It takes atleast 15 seconds to load my HTML codes and 30 seconds to load my Java Applets on the school computer under IE.
I base the browser I use solely on speed, and as of the most recently released version of IE, it performs better than Firefox. I still prefer Chrome because it is the fastest. If it came down to usability and features, I would pick Opera.
It's all about adblock to me, and so far firefox has the best one.
IE is fine for browsing and for web pages, but it lacks some features for web applications, and it's too closed and dependent on Microsoft. MS should be more open.
After using Firefox for so long, I get really fucking annoyed using IE. But I also get annoyed in other, perfectly fine browsers, just because they aren't what I'm used to.
I haven't used IE since IE6, and I don't plan on switching back to it, but I can't say it's a piece of shit as it is right now.
