For the record, IE fails on my box.
Weird, shows a 100/100 on my IE10.
I use Internet explorer for college use, Chrome eats the fuck out of my laptop battery compared to IE10. It's fast as Chrome, but doesn't use more than a few processes. Might be that I don't use a lot of plugins and toolbars and that crap. So basically the current version of IE is improving.
It doesn't respect my freedoms. I use Links.
I never use IE, but i use Netscape and it looks like firefox. And chrome
For developers IE9 is disgusting and there's no point even talking about IE8. For example, a lot of basic CSS is missing for IE9 and you have to use shite workarounds.
This isn't true. If you know what you're working with, designing/making a website isn't a problem up to IE8. There are some css3 missing on some of them, but that's something that shouldn't even visually change the whole website, you should also learn to support old browsers using i.e. images or http://css3pie.com/ if you can't even support IE8, then you're not a good web developer. Unless you're making somewhat of a modern website using html5 and cavas and shit. (but should always support older browsers) [editline]16th April 2013[/editline] my IE10 is perfectly fine [t]http://i.imgur.com/AXpBx3W.png[/t]
When I click Internet Explorer (accidently, mind you), it doesn't actually open. The little tab at the bottom shows up but it doesn't actually open. I then have to go into task manager to close it as right clicking the little tab and hitting "exit" doesn't actually do anything Yes, IE is bad.
IE 10 isn't bad and 9 wasn't awful. However, they've spent the best part of the 21st century adding 10% to my workload when I have to develop, and I'll be fucked if I'm going to let them off that easily. I shall never recommend IE 10 (or probably 11) to anyone looking for a decent browser, even though frankly it plays ball for the most part - it's recompense for those years of proprietary CSS rules and it's only fair.
I'm expecting a shitload of hate for this, but personally I love IE.
I'm expecting a shitload of hate for this, but personally I love IE.
It says you're using an unkown browser
It says you're using an unkown browser
Probably the Metro IE 10 browser.
I heard that a group of hackers tested to see how good the security was for Windows 8. They uninstalled it and went back to Windows 7! WHY? Because of Internet Explorer that's why! They were able to hack into Microsoft itself with just the code IE was built upon. Also: Fuck IE, no one in their right minds uses it unless they want their computers to die a painful death after watching porn. Chrome master race!
IE just seems a metric fuckton laggier than any other browser other than Safari on my computer. That's with like, Java enabled and nothing else. I'm running Chrome right now with about 5 addons and it's running fine. [editline]24th April 2013[/editline]
Looks nice doesn't it?
No. But that's because I don't like Bing, nor care about Jay-Z. :v:

Essentially modern IE is on par with other modern browsers. The only reason most of don't use it, is because we've grown accustomed to using other browsers, generally chrome, firefox or opera and the thought of having to move entire bookmark libraries and other stuff is generally meh on the I want to do list.
while still using XP.
Since when was that a bad thing? And define Modern... It doesn't go well with Internet Explorer, also if you think it's high and mighty why don't you use it? Chrome: 1 Internet Explorer: 0
Since when was using a 12 year old OS a good thing?
Why is it still supported till 2014. Case and point. Everyone loves it. Also Fuck Windows 8.
This isn't even about Windows 8, calm down.
This isn't even about Windows 8, calm down.
I know. But still, I shouldn't have to be told which OS to run. For me personally I would never run Windows 8 but that's not to say I have a problem with it either. I just hate the lack of the start menu and Windows 7 like functionality.
It used to be, but they've made some major advancements. I still wouldn't use it, but it isn't the worst thing out there.
Windows 7 isn't going anywhere anytime soon. No one is forcing you to use 8.
Try going to the PC building section.
yes. i don't like how IE shows pages, just look how facepunch looks on chrome and compare on how it looks on IE and also it can be easily spammed with toolbars

Chrome: 1 Internet Explorer: 0
I think I said as much in the second part of the post. Most of us don't switch as we are used to different browsers by now. We are used to how Chrome, Firefox, opera or whatever other browser you use and as such we are loathe to change. We changed because when we were growing up, IE was utterly utterly bad. But that is no longer the case, and you actually already see a lot of younger people use IE again. As to my comment about you using XP - essentially you are using an OS that is woefully out of date in terms of features, security, stability and many other things. And have no issues with it. Whereas you ascribe these things to modern versions of IE when it is by far no longer the case. As to why XP is supported up to 2014 - it's not because MS feels the need to support the consumer side of XP, but because MS tends to have massive amounts of stake in the enterprise segment, which generally has very long lifecycles on software and will often stay on an older OS in order to guarantee compatibility with specialised in-comany software or hardware.
yes. i don't like how IE shows pages, just look how facepunch looks on chrome and compare on how it looks on IE and also it can be easily spammed with toolbars
That's a user choice though. You can bog down firefox and chrome with similar third party stuff as well and you see it constantly among people.
In terms of web development Internet Explorer can be a pain. This is mainly true for older versions (just right click on most pages and view source you will see alot of <-- If Internet Explorer 5,6,7 -->. As of late Microsoft has really started upping their game in terms of their web browser. Most of the hate towards IE is because it has been drilled into us from their past imperfections. While I wouldn't recommend anyone uses Internet Explorer, I don't cringe as much anymore if I at least notice they are using the newest version. At the end of the day most web browsers are roughly equal in performance/security and it just comes down to preference.
As long as you are using IE10+ you're okay. IE9 is somewhat acceptable but not really. The thing about the older versions is they do not automatically update, unless you use Windows Update, but if you still have IE8/7/6 you are probably not doing that. However with other browsers that automatically update, you are constantly up to date with one of the fastest moving industries in the world. The web is constantly changing, especially with new devices being launched all the time. The desktop browser needs to keep up. The problem is, if you're using IE6/7/8/9 then you are holding back the entire internet. Not to mention, your experience isn't going to be half as good as it is browsing with Chrome or Firefox.
Have they fixed the lack of add-on support in the newer versions?
I think the problem is, everyone who doesn't use the new IE imagines/remembers Internet Explorer for what the old shitty version used to be; back when all web browsers were shit. At-least in comparison to todays browsers they were shit, which most people use as a comparison when trying to white-knight for Chrome/Firefox/Whichever.
I like the new IE Version...But i love more than my precious chrome
I don't think IE is terrible, it just has a lack of efficiency in loading web pages, I must say, if you want to surf the internet fast, don't use IE, but if it's just for regular use on a non-daily basis then IE is fine.
I don't think its terrible. Its just really basic.
