The way I see it, the whole thing was your fault. First of all, you were walking your dog without a leash. Regardless of your local laws, that's just stupid. And then, after that, you left the duck alone in a room with your dog when your dog had already previously attacked it. How the hell does that seem like a good idea? I mean, how could you not see that coming?

This reminded me of how a friend's dog killed her birthday presents.
Her presents were 2 bunnies.
It is a pretty horrific death for the duck. I remember rescuing a few fatally injured piegons from my cat and leaving them somewhere quiet for a while, they usually died from shock but at least they were in comfort and not being mauled.
Still, the dog isn't evil either. The dog was being a dog. It's just sad, there's no real bad person/creature.

The same cat I mentioned ate one of my gerbils I was given for my tenth birthday.
He was still an awesome cat though. Just a damn good hunter unfortunately.
And for those who say cats are better, cats are brutal and merciless killers, haha believe me...
the different is dogs can kill larger animals than cats and that they usually don't "play" with the dieing animal :P
still either way its life and you shouldn't be too angry at the animal in question.

Well, since the duck was already dead, chewing on its head wouldn't do any harm, and this way the dog could save its owner the cost of a new chew toy from the store.
